Important Activities

  • Meeting of the Committee for finalization of Draft Rules under National Food Security Act-2013 (Pertaining to ICDS) was organised on 05.01.2015 under the Chairmanship of JS(MP) MWCD.
  • A National Thematic Workshop on Best Practices in Women and Child Development was organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development at Panipat, Haryana on 20-21 January 2015 with a focus on strategy recommendations for Women and Child Development, informed by best practices and innovative approaches on key themes related to IYCF, community nutrition, addressing anemia, ECCE, combating trafficking and violence against women, empowerment of women, improving child sex ratio, promoting girls' education and valuing the girl child. NIPCCD supported the workshop and shared rapporteuring of sessions, besides moderating a session. The States shared such models that have worked well in different States and districts. The workshop provided a theme based platform for presenting and discussing the various innovative models, through dialogue (chintan) with other States/UTs, sectors, experts and voluntary agencies- enabling interstate sharing and learning.
  • An Exhibition on the theme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was also organised from 20-21 January 2015. The exhibition provided information on the following:
    • key thematic areas to bring the focus of the stakeholders to the main theme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao including panels depicting facts/figures on declining sex ratio;
    • objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme were highlighted along with other initiatives taken up by MWCD like ECCE Policy, ICDS Mission and ICPS etc.; and
    • health and nutritional aspects were highlighted through display of panels on the use of Mother & Child Protection Card, New WHO Growth standards overcoming micro nutrient deficiencies, Acts and laws related to Child Marriage, POCSO etc. and Swach Bharat Abhiyan.
    NIPCCD organized various aspects of the exhibition, including the display.
  • Hon'ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi launched the nationwide Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme on 22nd January, 2015 at Panipat, Haryana in the presence of Haryana Governor Shri Kaptan Singh Solanki, Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal, Union Ministers Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Smt. Smriti Irani, Shri J P Nadda and Bollywood actress Mrs. Madhuri Dixit. This scheme launched with an objective to improve the current statistics of declining child sex ratio, promote the importance of girl child, ensure her survival and protection and highlight the benefits of educating the girl child by providing them various opportunities to empower themselves.
  • During the launch, Hon'ble Prime Minister also launched the training module cum compendium on BBBP prepared by NIPCCD to target the Master Trainers to strengthen the capacity of the grass root level functionaries to enable a better understanding of the key aspects of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme, role and responsibilities and collective action required for improving the declining CSR and promoting girl's education and enabling protective environment for girls.This module includes technical content on various schemes, policies and acts for education, survival and safety of girl child.
  • A function for felicitating the National Bravery Awards Awardees by Ministry of Women and Child Development was presided over by Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Hon'ble Minister for Women and Child Development on 23 January, 2015. NIPCCD supported the logistics of the function.

Regular Training Programmes

  • Six Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organized by headquarters and its Regional Centres. Out of six, two Refresher Courses were organized by Headquarters from 5-9 January and 12-16 January, 2015, two by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 5-9 January and 27-31 January, 2015 and one each by Regional Centre, Bengaluru &Indore from 5-9 January, 2015 and 19-23 January, 2015. The main objectives of these course were to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects: provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial skills. In all one hundred and twenty-five participants attended these courses.
  • Skill Training on ECCE for DPOs/CDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 5-9 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize DPOs/CDPOs to the conceptual framework of ECCE; orient them on key child care behaviors; and facilitate participants to incorporate best child care practices in the existing set up of ICDS for strengthening the ECCE component. Thirty-two participants attended the training.
  • Skill Training for ICDS Functionaries on Social and Behaviour Chance Communication (SBCC) was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 7-9 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the ICDS functionaries to the principles of Social and Behaviour Change Communication and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; develop skills for effective value addition in communication process; enable trainees to develop communication materials for behavior change; and enrich the participants to develop need based model for social and behavior change communication in their respective work places. Fifteen participants attended the training.
  • Workshop on Juvenile Justice and ICPS for Members of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) was organised by Headquarters from 8-9 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of participants about the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 & Amendment Act, 2011 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012; discuss the role and responsibilities of the members of JJBs and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of JJ Act and POCSO Act; and develop an understanding regarding ICPS. Twenty-five participants attended the workshop.
  • Awareness Programme on POCSO Act 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru on 12 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: create awareness on the significance of the Act and its implementation, to orient on preventive and safety measures to be adopted in the institutions; and sensitise on the role of different stakeholders in protecting children from sexual offences. Fifty-six participants attended the training.
  • Orientation of State Level Officials on Implementation of Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Lucknow on 12 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient State ICDS Officials, Nodal Officer-in-charge of ECCE in rolling out the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum. Four participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Workshop on Child Rights and Child Protection for Magistrate/ Members of Juvenile Justice Boards was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 12-13 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop understanding among the participants about the situation of children in India and challenges faced by children for their holistic development; sensitize and orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000, its Amendment Act 2006 and ICPS; orient the participants about the functioning, roles and responsibilities of Child Welfare Committees; understand and facilitate mechanisms for speedy disposal of cases; discuss the efficacy of Institutional & Non-Institutional Services under the Act; develop understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration and to enable effective assessment of options in the best interest of children; and understand the role of different stakeholders as provided in the Act. Thirty-eight participants attended the workshop.
  • Training of Counsellors on Enhancing Life Skills for Adolescent Parenting was organised by Headquarters from 12-16 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants to the needs of adolescent and the challenges faced by them; enable the participants to reflect on skills required for effective communication and conflict resolution with adolescents; enhance their skills to address developmental issues related to adolescent such as career planning and sex & sexuality; and enhance their skills to help parents to respond to their adolescent child in stress. Nineteen participants attended the training.
  • Training for the State Level Master Trainers (SLMTs) to facilitate the States in Implementation of Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Lucknow from 13-17 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the participants on the concept, significance, principles and domains of child development; orient participants on the National ECCE Policy including Curriculum Framework and Quality Standards; develop knowledge, understanding and skills of participants on rolling out contextualized ECCE Curriculum at AWCs and preparing Plan of Action; develop the required training skills in participants in training of Trainers of District Level Master Trainers (DLMTs) on rolling out contextualized ECCE Curriculum at AWCs; and develop proper understanding and skills of participants on supportive supervision, formative and continuous assessment of implementation of ECCE as well as progress of children at AWCs. Thirty-six participants attended the training.
  • Sensitization Programme for Representatives of VOs on Protection of Young Children and Adolescents from Sexual Offences in Cyberspace was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 14-16 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise participants about adverse effects of Sexual Offences in Cyberspace; discuss the learning and behavioural problems among adolescents; and enable participants to focus on educating the community and parents about harmful effects of Sexual Offences in Cyberspace and suggesting alternatives. Forty-three participants attended the programme.
  • Two Orientation Trainings for Master Trainers of ICDS on APIP were organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati and Regional Centre, Lucknow from 19-21 January, 2015 and 20-22 January, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these trainings were to: apprise the participants on restructuring and strengthening of ICDS; acquaint them with the methods and techniques of collecting and collating the required data and other information for incorporation in the APIP; discuss the challenges encountered in preparation of APIPs; identification of district level good practices and innovations for strengthening of APIP. In all twenty-nine participants attended these trainings programmes.
  • Skill Training for ICDS Functionaries on Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) was organised by Headquarters from 19-21 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the ICDS functionaries to the principles of Social And Behaviour Change Communication and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; develop skills for effective value addition in communication process; enable trainees to develop communication materials for behaviour change; and enrich the participants develop need based model for social and behaviour change communication in their respective work places.   • Orientation Programme for DCPOs of District Child Protection Units, Protection-cum-Legal Officials, Social Workers and Out-reach Workers, etc. was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 19-23 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: provide in depth understanding of ICPS programme framework and the respective roles and responsibilities of DCPOs, Protection-cum-Legal Officials, Social Workers and Out-reach Workers; and facilitate them in effectively discharging their duties. Twenty-eight participants attended the course.
  • Skill Training on ECCE for Instructors of AWTCs and MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 19-23 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the National ECCE Policy Curriculum framework and the quality standards; discuss the services of ECCE and its effective functioning to suit the current trend; and build the capacity of Instructors to effectively guide grass-root level functionaries on ECCE component. Twenty-three participants attended the training.
  • Two Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru and Headquarters from 19 January-19 February, 2015 and 28 January-27 February, 2015, respectively. The main objectives of these course are to: orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme-its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries with respect to restructured and strengthened ICDS and New Who Child Growth Standards, MCP card, schemes of SABLA & IGMSY; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grass roots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. In all fifty-eight participants are attending these courses.
  • Orientation Training on Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 20-21 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient participants about different provisions made under POCSO Act 2012; orient participants on their role & responsibilities under POCSO Act, 2012 and help participants to strategize the implementation of POCSO Act, 2012. Forty-seven participants attended the training programme.
  • Master Trainer Programme on Documentation for ICPS Functionaries was organised by Headquarters from 20-22 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitise the participants to the significance of documentation in the functioning of various ICPS structures; orient them about different forms of documentation that are required in ICPS; and familiarize them with various documentation techniques that are required for maintaining various forms of documentation. Thirty-five participants attended the training programme.
  • Orientation Workshop on Counselling and Stress Management for Functionaries of CCIs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 20-22 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: build sensitivity among the participants for the problems of children in distress; develop communication, negotiation and counselling skills; discuss methods, types, techniques and processes of counselling; and elaborate on techniques of stress management. Twenty participants attended the workshop.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act & Rules, 2012 for Medical Professionals (in collaboration with Indian Academy of Paediatrics) was organised by Headquarters on 21 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the medical professionals about salient features of POCSO Act, 2012; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act; and discuss with them about medical and forensic services in order to investigate sexual offences. Seventy-one participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation of State Level Officials on Implementation of the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Indore on 27 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the senior officials/Nodal Officers-In-charge of ECCE of state in rolling out the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum. Seven participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Course for Statistical Assistants on MIS in ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 28-30 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: appraise the participants about the concept and significance of Management Information System in ICDS; orient the participants about the new Management Information System(MIS) in ICDS scheme; and guide the participants about utilization of MPR data in ICDS.Twenty-four participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Training on Legislations for Protecting Interest of Women for Representatives of NGOs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 28-30 January, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the concept, trend, causes and consequences of gender based violence; make them understand about various legislations and welfare measures for protection of women; sensitize the participants to the provisions of the 'Protection of Women from Domestic Violence' Act, 2005; and enable them to initiate action for protection of women from different kinds of Violence. Twenty-three participants attended the training programme.
  • Training of State Level Master Trainers (SLMTs) on Implementation of the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum is being organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Indore from 28 January-1 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarizes the participants on the concept, significance, Principles and domains of child development; orient participants on the National ECCE Policy including Curriculum Framework and Quality Standards; develop knowledge, understanding and skills of participants in rolling out contextualised ECCE Curriculum at AWCs and preparing Plan of Action; develop the required training skills in participants in training Trainers of District Level Master Trainers on rolling out contextualized ECCE Curriculum at AWCs; develop proper understanding and skills of participants on supportive supervision, formative and continuous assessment of implementation of ECCE as well as progress of children at AWCs. Thirty-eight participants are attending the training programme.

Training Programmes

  • Two Skill Training Programmes for ICDS Functionaries on Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) were organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru and Regional Centre, Lucknow from 2-4 February, 2015 and 10-12 February, 2015, respectively. The main objectives of these training programmes were to: enhance the knowledge on the principles of Social Behaviour Change Communication and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; augment understanding related to strategic shifts in SBCC; explain and apply the SBCC planning process for developing a strategic communication; and Improve understanding of principles of monitoring and evaluation process to assess effectiveness of communication and application of the same in ICDS. In all sixty-six participants attended these programmes.
  • Orientation Training Programme for ICDS Functionaries on SABLA, IGMSY Schemes was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 2-4 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the ICDS functionaries about the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls - SABLA & Indira Gandhi Matritava Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY); and apprise them of their role and responsibility in implementing SABLA and IGMSY schemes. Forty-seven participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Project Formulation and Management for NGOs & Government Officials on Schemes related to Empowerment of Women and Girls was organised by Headquarters from2-6 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the participants with policy and programmes for women and children; discuss the various schemes relating to women and girls, including grant-in-aid to NGOs; and impart knowledge about project formulation, management methods, documentation, MIS etc. Thirty participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training Programme for Functionaries of CCIs on POCSO Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 3-4 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the Superintendents and other functionaries of CCIs to the provisions of POCSO Act and Rules, 2012; enable them to understand and contextualize the Act in the light of the Rights of Children; and develop an understanding of their roles and responsibilities under the Act. Forty-seven participants attended the programme.
  • Two Awareness Camps on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012 for Representatives of VOs were organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow and Headquarters on 5& 6 February, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these camps were to: review the situation of children in India with special focus on Gender-based Violence against children; orient on salient features of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and its rule; discuss the role and responsibilities of various stakeholders under the Act; and role and responsibilities of voluntary organization in better implementation of POCSO Act, 2012. In all sixty-seven participants attended these workshops.
  • Orientation Training programme for Ahimsa Messengers was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 9-10 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: create awareness about basic legal procedures and provisions by involving both men and Women; identify the role of ICDS functionaries and protection officers as Master Trainers of Ahimsa Messengers; and facilitate social/community mobilization to fight social evils and create enabling environment for women. Thirty-one participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Training on Child Rights and Child Protection for Superintendents of Homes/ Probation/Welfare Officers/ VOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 9-13 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms & legal provisions; and create an understanding of the good child protection practices including various legislations, policies & programme etc. Nineteen participants attended the programme.
  • Four Vertical Training Programmes of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme were organised by the Institute. Out of these four Vertical Training Programmes, one programme each was organized by Regional Centre, Guwahati and Headquarters from 2-6 February and 24-28 February, 2015 respectively. Two programmes were organized by Regional Centre Indore from 9-13 February, 2015 and 23-27 February, 2015. The main objectives of these programmes were to: enhance the skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as a master trainer for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of all ICDS functionaries at project level for quality improvement in ICDS Services; and formulate joint action plan at project level for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. In all one hundred and seventy-two participants attended these programmes.
  • Three Skill Training Programmes on ECCE for DPOs/CDPOs were organised by the Institute. Out of these three programmes, one programme was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 9-13 February, 2015 and other two programmes by Regional Centre, Indore from 16-20 February, 2015 and 23-27 February, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these trainings were to: orient the participants to the National ECCE policy and process of developing state ECCE curriculum and its implementation; to acquaint the participants to the developments in relation to ECCE under restructuring of ICDS; to build the capacity of the CDPOs/DPOs to effectively guide the grass root level functionaries for qualitative improvement of ECCE service. In all forty participants attended these trainings.
  • Job Training Course for District Child Protection Officers of ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 9-13 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law; the existing Juvenile justice System and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient the participants about ICPS, its components and the role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and ICPS and their inter-linkages; discuss the role of DCPOs in implementation of ICPS in the district; evolve strategy for networking convergence and coordination mechanisms under ICPS; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at the district level and develop managerial competencies to carry out the responsibilities as DCPOs. Fourteen participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Training Programme on Management of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 16-20 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organization, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and apprise them of techniques of good governance and to enhance their professional skills to make their programmes sustainable. Twenty eight participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Prevention of Trafficking for NGO Functionaries was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: create awareness among the participants about the magnitude of the problem, its modus operandi and consequences; familiarize them about the Governmental initiatives to address the problem, sensitize them about the rehabilitation and repatriation of women/child survivors of trafficking; and analyze the role of NGOs in prevention of trafficking. Seventeen participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Micro Finance and Income Generation Issues for Women's SHGs/Clusters/Federations was organised by Headquarters from 23-27 February, 2015 with the main objectives to orient the participants about the concept, need and scope of micro finance; make them aware about SHGs, clusters and federations; develop capacity of Stakeholders including NGOs to promote SHG network on micro finance and income generation issues; acquaint the participants about importance of micro finance and income generation for sustainable development intervention/strategy; and provide a forum for sharing the experiences and best practices on the issues of micro-finance/micro credit. Twelve participants attended the programme.
  • Supportive Interventions for Children with Learning and Behaviour Problems was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Guwahati from 23-27 February, 2015with the main objectives to: enable the participants to understand the challenges of children in contemporary society and the role of schools in supporting their developments; orient them to the various learning and behavior difficulties in children; enhance the ability of the participants to identify early symptoms of learning and behavior problems in children; and critically apprise them with the strategies to promote emotional well being and achievement in children. Twenty-eight participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training Programme on Assessment of Child Learning Outcomes for ICDS Functionaries was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 18-20 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise the ICDS functionaries to the concept of child learning outcomes; make them understand the importance of adequate child learning outcome for later learning and development; help them to visualize the link between the quality of ECE programme and child learning outcome; and develop the skill of ICDS functionaries for assessing children's learning. Twenty nine participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Training on Planning and Designing a Project for Executives of Voluntary Organization was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 23-27 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enable the knowledge base and skill of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation and workout mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability of a project; and analyse pitfalls in planning and designing a project proposal. Twenty-six participants attended the programme.
  • Two Skill Training Programmes on Community Mobilisation, Advocacy, Awareness and IEC Campaign on the issues relating to Child Development were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Indore from 9-13 February, 2015 and 23-27 February, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these trainings were to: orient the participants to the concept and importance of community mobilization, participation, advocacy, awareness and IEC campaign; develop skills on techniques and methods of community mobilization, advocacy and awareness campaign; strengthen the skills of participants on eliciting community participation using various techniques for the effective implementation of ICDS programme. In all thirty-nine participants attended these training programmes.
  • Training Programme on Counselling for the Counsellors of Family Counselling Centres was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 24-26 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: acquaint the trainees with essential elements of counselling; equip them with techniques of counselling; and introduce them to alternative approaches to counselling. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.
  • Sensitization Programme on Japanese Encephalities/Acute Encephalitis Syndrome and Sneha Shivir was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 25-27 February,2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the major causes, signs and symptoms, prevention and management of JE/AES; prepare action plans and micro planning procedures for combating JE/AES at various levels; orient them about the Sneha Shivir and Nutrition Counselling Child Care Sessions; and discuss roles and responsibilities of various ICDS functionaries in prevention of JE/AES through Sneha Shivir and other supportive activities. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.
  • Cross State Sharing Workshop on Potentially Good Practices in ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 27-28 February, 2015 with the main objectives to: identification of good practices and innovations that have been implemented within ICDS in different States and with different partners; documentation of these potential best practices for their replication and scaling up in different locations; and suggest ways and system for replication of these good practices at a larger level. Twenty-four participants attended the workshop.

  • An event to Celebrate International Women's Day 2015 and Presentation of Stree Shakti Puraskar, 2014 & Nari Shakti Puraskar, 2014 was organised by MWCD on 8 March, 2015 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The function was presided over by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble President of India who also presented the Stree Shakti Puraskar-2014 & Nari Shakti Puraskar-2014. Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Hon'ble Union Minister for Women and Child Development also graced the occasion. The Institute provided logistic support to MWCD for organising this function.
  • Workshop of NGOs Working for the Rescue and Rehabilitation of Vulnerable Children in Delhi to primarily share/discuss the features of Khoya-Payaa Portal was organised by Ministry of Women and Child Development on 10 March, 2015. Institute participated and provided logistic support for the same.
  • Two Regional Conferences for Generating Awareness on STEP Scheme of the MWCD were organised by Ministry of Women and Child Development on 19 and 20 March, 2015, respectively. Institute provided technical and logistic support for both conferences.
  • A Meeting for Finalization of Draft Rules Framed under the National Food Security Act pertaining to ICDS was organised by Ministry of Women and Child Development on 23 March, 2015. Institute provided technical and logistic support for the same.

  • Awareness Programme on POCSO Act 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru on 2 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: create awareness on the significance of the Act and its implementation; orient on preventive and safety measures to be adopted in the institutions; and sensitise on the role of different stakeholders in protecting children from sexual offences.   • Training on Fund Raising Techniques and Resource Management for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 3-6, March 2015 with the main objectives to: acquaint the representatives of voluntary organizations to fund raising know-how and techniques; impart knowledge on need for developing internal controls and accounting systems for effective utilization and management of funds; and discuss income tax rules an procedures.   • Awareness Programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act & Rules, 2012 for NGOs was organised by Headquarters from 2-3 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of participants about salient features of POCSO Act and Rules, 2012; sensitize them about the sexual offences being committed against children and consequent trauma faced by them; and develop an understanding of their role and problems encountered in implementation of the Act. Eighteen participants attended the programme.
  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-6 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: assess the training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; provide a forum for sharing experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ACDPOs of recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the area of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills of CDPOs/ACDPOs. Seventeen participants attended the course.
  • Orientation workshop for members of Juvenile Justice Boards was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 3-4 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the members of JJBs to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 and its Amendment Act, 2006 vis-a-vis ICPS; develop a clarity and understanding in them about their role and responsibilities in the implementation of the Act; and to help them to facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Twenty-nine participants attended the workshop.
  • Workshop for Police Personnel on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 was organised by Headquarters from 3-5 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the participants about salient features of POCSO Act and Rules, 2012 and role of implementing agencies to protect child rights; sensitize the participants about the sexual offences being committed against children and consequent trauma faced by them; and discuss about problems in the implementation of the Act and skills to handle cases of child sexual abuse. Twenty-two participants attended the workshop.
  • Training on Developing Counseling Skills for NGOs Working in Disability Sector was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 4-6 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants about definition, principles, elements and stages of counseling; enable them to understand various approaches and techniques of counseling and use them in their work situation; and make the participants aware regarding the ethics in counseling and in providing necessary relief to the children with disability. Thirty-three participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Training for Ahimsa Messengers was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 5-6 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: enlighten the participants with the concept of Ahimsa Messenger; create awareness about basic legal procedure and provisions by evolving both men and women; identify the role of ICDS functionaries and protection officers as Master Trainers of Ahimsa Messengers; facilitate social/community mobilization to fight social evils and create enabling environment for women. Twenty-five participants attended the training.
  • Orientation of State officials on implementation of the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum was organised by Headquarter at Regional Centre, Lucknow on 9 March, 2015 with the main objective to: orient state ICDS officials, Nodal Officer-in-charge of ECCE in rolling out the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum. Four participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Program on Role of Sakhis and Sahelis in SABLA was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 10-12 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance knowledge and understanding of the trainers of ICDS on SABLA; elaborate on modules of Sabla; delineate role and responsibilities of Sakhis and Sahelis; and orient the participants to methods and techniques of inculcating leadership qualities among Sakhis and Sahelis. Eighteen participants attended the programme.
  • Workshop for Stakeholders on Laws and Schemes to Protect Child Rights was organised by Headquarters from 10-12 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the ground realities of child protection and child rights; discuss the role of various stakeholders under JJ System and implementation of ICPS and evolve strategies for networking, convergence and coordination mechanisms under ICPS. Twenty-three participants attended the workshop.
  • Parental Education Workshop was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 11 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop an understanding among the parents about the needs of children and responsibilities of parents towards their children; and acquaint them about appropriate parenting skills so as to enable them to boost their children's academic performance. Seventy-six participants attended the workshop.
  • One Day District Level Sensitization Camp on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 11 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: create an awareness on the significance of the POCSO Act and its implementation; and sensitize the different Stake holders to their roles and responsibilities in protecting children from sexual offences. Forty participants attended the camp.
  • Training for the State Level Master Trainers (SLMTs) on Implementation of the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Lucknow from 10-14 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the participants on the concept, significance, principles and domains of child development; orient them on the National ECCE Policy including Curriculum Framework and Quality Standards; develop knowledge, understanding and skills of participants on rolling out contextualized ECCE Curriculum at AWCs and preparing Plan of Action; develop the required training skills in participants in training of Trainers of District Level Master Trainers (DLMTs) on rolling out contextualized ECCE Curriculum at AWCs; and develop proper understanding and skills of participants on supportive supervision, formative and continuous assessment of implementation of ECCE as well as progress of children at AWCs.   • Training Programme for Counsellors of Crime Victims of North East Region was organised by Headquarters from 11-13 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: create awareness among the participants about the magnitude of the problem of crimes against women; familiarize them about the legal safeguards to address the problem; equip them with effective counselling techniques; and identify the role of counsellors in prevention of crime against women and dealing with survivors of violence. Twenty-one participants attended the programme.
  • Awareness Camp on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012 for Representatives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 16 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: review the situation of children in India with special focus on Gender-based Violence against children; orient on salient features of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and its rule; discuss the role and responsibilities of various stakeholders under the Act; and role and responsibilities of voluntary organization in better implementation of POCSO Act-2012. Forty participants attended the camp.
  • Vertical Training Programme of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme was organised by Regional Centre, Indore at Durg, Chhattisgarh from 16-20 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as a master trainer for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of all ICDS functionaries at project level for quality improvement in ICDS Services; and formulate joint action plan at project level for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. Thirty-four participants attended the training.
  • Workshop on Child Rights and Protection for Representatives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the conceptual framework and context of Child Rights and Protection; develop skills for effective performance of their prescribed roles and responsibilities; and enhance the understanding about ICPS particularly its legal provisions and service delivery mechanisms. Twenty-three participants attended the workshop.
  • Skill Training Programme on Assessment of Child Learning Outcomes for ICDS Functionaries was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 17-19 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise the ICDS functionaries to the concept of child learning outcomes; make them understand the importance of adequate child learning outcome for later learning and development; help them to visualize the link between the quality of ECE programme and child learning outcome; and develop the skill of ICDS functionaries for assessing children's learning. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.
  • Sensitization Programme for Instructors of AWTs/MLTCs on Strengthening and Restructuring of ICDS Programme was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 18-20 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the Instructors of AWTs/MLTCs to the recent initiatives to strengthen and restructure the ICDS programme; acquaint the trainers with the mechanisms evolved for implementation of ICDS in Mission mode and to enable them to facilitate officials to contribute effectively for convergence of services of different departments/agencies for holistic development of women and children. Twenty seven participants attended the programme.
  • Workshop for Protection Officers/Service Providers on Implementation of PWDVA, 2005 (in collaboration with Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Chhattisgarh) was organised by Headquarters at Raipur on 21 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the salient features of PWDVA, 2005 and their application; analyse the health consequences of domestic violence for women & children and discuss recent case laws and judicial interpretations of the provisions of PWDVA, 2005 and suggesting solutions to field problems in implementation of PWDVA, 2005. Seventy-seven participants attended the workshop.
  • Training on Counselling Techniques and Support Services to Women in Distress was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 24-27 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: build sensitivity of the participants to the problems of women in distress; enhance information on existing programmes and support services for women in distress; develop communication, negotiation and counselling skills; and discuss methods, types, techniques and processes of counselling. Twenty-three participants attended the training programme.
  • Orientation Workshop on Child Rights & Protection for Child Welfare Officers of Police Stations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 25-26 March, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop understanding among the participants about the situation of children in India and challenges faced by children for their holistic development; sensitize and orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000, its Amendment Act 2006, POCSO Act and ICPS; orient the participants about the functioning, roles and responsibilities of Child Welfare Officers of Police Stations; understand and facilitate mechanisms for speedy disposal of cases; discuss the efficacy of Institutional & Non-institutional Services under the Act; develop understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration; and enable effective assessment of options in the best interest of children and understand the role of different stakeholders as provided in the Act. Forty participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Project Formulation and management for NGOs & Government Officials on Schemes related to Empowerment of Women and Girls is being organised by Headquarters from 30 March-03 April, 2015 with main objectives to: familiarize the participants with policy and programmes for women and children; discuss the various schemes relating to women and girls, including grant-in-aid to NGOs; and impart knowledge about project formulation, management methods, documentation, MIS etc. Thirty-one participants are attending the programme.

Important Activities

  • Two Training Programmes for Master Trainers on Beti Bacho Beti Padhao were organised by Headquarters from 8-10 April, 2015 and 28-30 April, 2015 at Chandigarh and Guwahati respectively. The main objectives of these programmes were to: provide guidance and awareness about the various schemes, policies and laws for the education and safety of the girl child; sensitize and train the functionaries as catalysts for social change and to mobilize the community for its engagement for improving the Child Sex Ratio(CSR), Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) and enrolment & retention of girl child in schools; provide information and training for better inter-sectoral and inter-institutional convergence at district/block/grass-root levels; and orient the trainers about planning process of advocacy campaign for social and behaviour change. In all One hundred and ninety master trainers were trained from Haryana & NE States except Tripura.
  • A Child Guidance Centre (CGC) at Regional Centre, Indore was inaugurated by Director, NIPCCD on 22 April, 2015. The Centre will address the mental health needs of children especially with developmental delays, learning and behavioural difficulties. Director, in his inaugural remarks affirmed that the centre would bring out the best in a child through assessment, diagnostic and the referral with team of professionals equipped in providing psychological support not only for children but to the community at large. The centre also promotes mental health in the community as a preventive measure.

  • Orientation Training Programme for Superintendents of Child Care Institutions under ICPSwas organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 6-8 April, 2015 with the main objectives to:focus on the need and importance of Child Care Institution; orient on the role of superintendents of Child Care Institution; know about the ICPS Structure, Policies and Acts; sensitize the functions the functions of Child Care Institutions and tofacilitate adequate understanding about the needs and the psychological problems of children.Fourteen participants attended the programme.

  • Skill Training on ECCE for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Headquarters from 8-10 April, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop a better understanding of the concepts of early childhood years, ECD, ECCD, ECCE and linkages with one another among the trainees; make them understand the issues relating to ECCE in the light of national policy of ECCE and restructured ICDS, and enable the Instructors to impart effective training on ECCE and guide the AWWs and Supervisors for proper delivery of ECCE programme to ensure optimum early childhood development.   • Vertical Training Programme on Infant and Young Child Feeding for ICDS Functionarieswas organised by Headquarters from 8-10 April,2015 at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, New Delhi with the the main objectives to: enhance the technical knowledge on IYCF; build the counseling skills on exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding ; and practice IYCF counseling. Thirty-four participants attended the programme.
  • Training of Trainers on Implementation of ECCE Curriculum on pilot basis was organised by Headquarters from 13-17 April, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarizes the participants on the concept, significance, Principles and domains of child development; orient participants on the National ECCE Policy including Curriculum Framework and Quality Standards; develop knowledge, understanding and skills of participants in rolling out contextualised ECCE Curriculum at AWCs and preparing Plan of Action; develop the required training skills in participants in training ; Supervisors and AWWs on rolling out contextualized ECCE Curriculum on pilot basis at selected AWCs; develop proper understanding and skills of participants on supportive supervision, formative and continuous assessment of implementation of ECCE as well as progress of children at AWCs.   • Orientation Programme on Early Childhood Care Education and Development for District Level Functionaries was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 15-17 April, 2015 with the main objectives to discuss the challenges in ECCD in the context of ECE policy; review the skills needed in implementation of ECCE in the light of restructured ICDS; build the capacity of DPOs to guide the grass root level functionaries on effective implementation of ECCED component; and orient the participants on their roles in monitoring. Seventeen participants attended the programme.
  • Gender Sensitization Programme for Principals/Teachers of Minority Institutions of Western Region was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 20-22 April, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop a clear perspective of gender issues;enrich and strengthen their sensitivity and understanding about women's development and empowerment; enhance their knowledge about the importance of education of women for development of minority community; andprovide information on policies and programme for women's development. Nineteen participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Financial Management and Reporting for Functionaries Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 20-24 April, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the need and importance of financial planning and reporting; impart knowledge on need for developing effective internal controls and accounting systems; develop skills of functionaries in budgeting and maintaining books of accounts; and discuss Income Tax rules, procedures and compliance to the reporting stipulations. Twenty five participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Schemes/Programmes of Ministry of Women & Child Development for Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 20-24 April, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitise and enhance the understanding of participants about status of women and children; orient the participants about programmes/schemes related to women and children; and orient them about their roles and responsibilities in implementing them. Twenty-four participants attended the programme.
  • Supportive Interventions for Children with Learning and Behaviour Problem was organised by Headquarters from 20-24 April,2015 at Indore.The main objectives of the consultation were to: enable the participants to understand the challenges of children in contemporary society and the role of schools in supporting their development.; orient them to the various learning and behaviour difficulties in children; enhance the ability of the participants to identify early symptoms of learning and behaviour problems in children; and critically apprise them with the strategies to promote emotional wellbeing and achievement in children. Twenty-eight participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Course on Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) for trainers of ICDS Functionaries was organised by Headquarters from 22-24 April,2015 with the objective to: enhance the knowledge on the principles of Social and Behaviour Change Communication and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; enhance understanding related to strategic shifts in SBCC and the basic steps in conducting a perceptions study; explain and apply the SBCC planning process for developing a strategic communication; and enhance understanding of principles of monitoring and evaluation process to assess effectiveness of communication and application of the same to ICDS. Nineteen participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Course for Instructors of AWTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 20-28 April, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise the newly appointed trainers about ICDS programme and its services, and issues related to early childhood care and development including child health, nutrition and education; build up their communication, training and counseling skills; enable them to systematically plan and organize training programmes; and familiarize them with the training syllabi of ICDS functionaries and trainers. Twenty-eight participants attended the programme.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for Media and AIR Professionals was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 24 April, 2015 with the main objectives to:discuss the salient features of POCSO Act, 2012 and discuss role and responsibilities of media and AIR Professionals in dissemination and awareness about the Act in masses. Thirty-nine participants attended the workshop.
  • Vertical Training Programme of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme was organised by Headquarters from 27 April -1 May, 2015 at Amritsar with the main objectives to: enhance the skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as a master Trainer for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of all ICDS functionaries at project level for quality improvement in ICDS Services; and work jointly and formulate joint action plan at project level for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services.   • Vertical Training Programme of Block Level ICDS Functionaries of High Burden District on Health and Nutrition was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from27 April -May 1, 2015 with the main objectives to:enhance the knowledge of the district officials on different health and nutrition issues of women and children; enable them to gain knowledge, understanding regarding optimal infant and young child feeding practices; develop their skill in identification of signs and symptoms of malnutrition and the ways to prevent it; and enable them to supervise nutrition component of ICDS effectively and help the functionaries in developing strategies for improvement of health and nutritional status of women and children. Fifty-nine participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme for Superintendents/Social Workers/ Probation Officers/Case workers of CCIs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 27 April-1 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the conceptual framework of Child Rights and Protection; enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions; and create an understanding of the good child protection practices including various legislations, policies and programme etc. Twenty participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme for Protection Officers of DCPUs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 27 April-1 May, 2015 with the main objectives to:examine the issue of child rights and protection in the Indian context; enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law, the existing Juvenile justice system and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient the features of ICPS, its components and the role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and ICPS and their interlinkages; discuss the role of POs in implementation of ICPS in the district; evolve strategy for networking convergence and coordination mechanisms under ICPS; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at the district level; and develop managerial competencies to carry out the responsibilities as DCPOs.   • Training Programme on Gender Budgeting for Officials and Non-officials of Western Region was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 28-30 April, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize participants about issues of women empowerment; orient participants about Concept, Need and Importance of Gender Budgeting; and improve skills in planning for Gender Budgeting in Govt. and Voluntary Sectors. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.
  • Training of ICDS Functionaries on SABLA, IGMSY & MCP Card was organised by Headquarters from from 28-30 April,2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants about Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls-SABLA, Indira Gandhi IGMSY to tackle the inter-generational cycle of malnutrition effectively; apprise them of their role and responsibility in creating the awareness among the ICDS functionaries as trainers; enhance the capabilities of participants in counseling through MCP Card; and strengthen the monitoring and supervision aspect of SABLA & IGMSY.   • A Training Programme on Ensuring Food Safety and Maintaining Food Safety Standards in Supplementary Nutrition in ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 5-7 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop an understanding of safe, food handling practices highlighting its importance in health and nutrition well being; orient the participants to food safety measures for SNP of ICDS; get an insight into food adulteration and laws regulating food safety; and discuss role of ICDS functionaries in ensuring food safety at AWCs. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.
  • Two Skill Training Programmes for ICDS Functionaries on Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Indore from 6-8 May,2015 with the main objectives to: orient the ICDS functionaries to the principles of Social and Behaviour Change Communication and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; develop skills for effective value addition in communication process; enable trainees to develop communication materials for behaviour change; and enrich the participants develop need based model for social and behaviour change communication in their respective work places. In all fifty-seven participants attended these training.
  • Skill Training Programme on ECCE for Instructors of AWTCs/ MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 6-8 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the National ECCE Policy Curriculum framework and the quality standards; discuss the services of ECCE and its effective functioning to suit the current trend; and build the capacity of Instructors to effectively guide grassroot level functionaries on ECCE component. Twenty participants attended the training.
  • Two Orientation Workshops for Chairpersons & Members of CWCs on Child Protection were organised by Regional Centres, Guwahati and Bengaluru from 7-8 May, 2015 and 28-29 May, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these workshops were to: develop an understanding among the members of CWCs on the vulnerability of children in India and challenges faced by them in their holistic development; sensitize and orient them to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006; and acquaint them about the functioning of CWCs and the roles and responsibilities of chairperson and members of CWCs. In all fifty-one participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Workshop for Members of JJBs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 7-8 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize and orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006 vis-a-vis ICPS; create clarity and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of members of JJBs and different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices for strengthening implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of NGOs and community as provided in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration and to enable effective assessment of options; and facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Nine participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Programme on Mobilization and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 11-15 May 2015 with the main objective to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants to the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources; and reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation. Seventeen participants attended the programme.
  • Three Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised by the Institute. Out of three, two course were organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 11-15 May, 2015 and 25-29 May, 2015 and one by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 18-22 May, 2015. The main objectives of these courses were to: provide a forum for sharing experiences; apprise them on the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the area of early childhood care and development; sharpen the skills in communication, counseling and the management; and assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs. In all fifty-nine participants attended these courses. Another Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 25-29 May, 2015 which was attended by eighteen participants.
  • Induction Training for untrained Instructors of AWTCs in Chhattisgarh was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 11-19 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise the newly appointed Instructors of AWTCs about the ICDS programme and its services; issues related to early childhood care and development including child health, nutrition and education; familiarize them with the training syllabi of AWWs; and build up their training and communication skills. Six participants attended the training.
  • Orientation programme on Child Rights and Child Protection for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organization was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 12-15 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the functionaries of voluntary organizations about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; orient them on various laws and legislations safeguarding the rights of children; and enable them to understand the legal provisions and service delivery mechanisms under JJ Act 2000 and under ICPS. Thirty participants attended the meeting.
  • Parental Education Workshop was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 14 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop an understanding about the needs of the children at different age groups; and help the parents to understand their responsibilities towards their children for optimum development. One hundred and fifty five participants attended the workshop.
  • Regional Consultation Meet on Strengthening Non Institutional Services for Child Protection and Institutional Mechanism for Child Protection was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 18-19 May 2015 with the main objective to: provide forum for presenting the existing best practices in institutional and non-institutional mechanism for child protection in southern states; discuss strategies for linking non-institutional services to child protection service under ICPS; and discuss and suggest the modalities for strengthening non-institutional and institutional services under ICPS. Thirty-two participants attended the meet.
  • Sensitization Programme for School Principals/Vice-Principals of Greater Guwahati on Mental Health of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 18-19 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: help the Heads of the schools to understand the concept of mental health and their implications on children; familiarize them with the various mental health issues children face; and acquaint them with various intervention strategies to be adopted for managing mental health of children. Forty-nine participants attended the programme.
  • Two Training Programmes of Supervisors of Delhi on Implementation of the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum were organised by Headquarters at New Delhi from 11-15 May, 2015 and 18-22 May, 2015. The main objectives of these training programmes were to: orient the Supervisors Delhi in Implementation of the Annual Contextualised ECCE Curriculum. In all seventy-one participants attended the training.
  • Training of Trainers on Training Technology for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 11-15 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on adult learning cycle; enable them for Training Need Assessment (TNA); and equip them with various training technologies. Fourteen participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Training Programme for Social Workers & Counsellors of ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 11-15 May 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning to children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law, the existing Juvenile Justice System and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient the features of ICPS, its components and the role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and ICPS and their inter-linkages; discuss the role of social workers in implementation of ICPS in the district; evolve strategy for networking convergence and coordination mechanisms under ICPS; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at the district level; and develop competencies to carry out the responsibilities as social workers. Nine participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Survival and Development of Girl Child was organised by Headquarters from 11-15 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants about status of children, especially girl child in India; sensitize them about survival and development threats for girl child as well as International Instruments like CRC etc.; familiarize the participants with various Government Policies, Rights, Legislations and Schemes related to survival, protection and development of girl child; and evolve effective strategies for survival and development of the girl child. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.
  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from May 14- 12 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme-its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries with respect to restructured and strengthened ICDS and New Who Child Growth Standards, MCP card, schemes of SABLA & IGMSY; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grass roots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. Thirty-six participants are attending the course.
  • Workshop on Research and Documentation Techniques in Social Development Projects for Representatives of Government and Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 18-22 May, 2015 with the objectives to: discuss with the participants about the significance of research and documentation in conceiving and implementing social development projects; expose them to various research and documentation techniques which could be adopted by the participants in designing/scrutinizing/reviewing social development projects; and facilitate them to enhance their skills in applying these techniques in social development projects. Twenty-four participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Programme on Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women was organised by Headquarters from 18-22 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants on gender issues and methodology for incorporating gender in the agenda of organizations; enhance the understanding of the participants on women's empowerment including social, economic, political, legal empowerment etc; apprise them about the policies and programmes of Government for women empowerment; provide knowledge and skills on project formulation with gender sensitivity to enlarge the scope of effective implementation of projects for empowerment of women. Seventeen participants attended the programme.
  • Sensitization Programme for Police Officials, ICDS Functionaries and NGOs on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 20-22 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: create awareness about the provisions of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; and discuss the roles and responsibilities of Police Officials and other stakeholders. Forty-three participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training Programme on Community Mobilisation, Advocacy, Awareness and IEC Campaign on the issues relating to Child Development was organised by Headquarters from 25-29 May,2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the concept and importance of community mobilization, participation; advocacy, awareness and IEC campaign; improve skills of the participants in methods and techniques of motivating and mobilizing community for awareness generation & IEC campaign; and enable the participants to elicit community participation, awareness and campaign for implementing ICDS programme effectively. Twenty participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Course on Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) for Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Headquarters from 25-29 May,2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to recent development in early childhood care and development; orient the participants to various critical issues related to survival, growth and development of children; and help them to acquire skills for enhancing early childhood care and development. Sixteen participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Training Programme for Legal-cum-Probation Officers under ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 25- 29 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law, the existing Juvenile Justice System and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient the features of ICPS, its components and the role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and ICPS and their inter-linkages; discuss the role of Legal cum Probation Officers in implementation of ICPS in the district; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at the district level; and develop managerial competencies to carry out the responsibilities as Legal cum Probation officers. Twenty-six participants attended the programme. Sensitization Programme on Protection of Young and Adolescents from Visual Media for Representatives of Voluntary Organizations ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 26- 28 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise the participants about adverse effects of visual media on children; discuss the learning and behavioural problems among adolescents; and enable participants to focus on educating the community & parents about harmful effects of visual media and suggesting alternatives. Twenty-four participants attended the programme.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for Medical Professional was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 26 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the salient features of POCSO Act, 2012 and role and responsibilities of Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents in implementation of the Act; discuss with them about medical and forensic services in cases of child victims of sexual offences and to protect child rights; and discuss about problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required in cases of sexual offences against children. Twenty-eight participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Training Programme on Mobilisation and Management of Community Resources for Representatives of Civil Society was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 27-28 May, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize participants about the need to mobilize the community for development programmes; orient participants about community mobilization techniques; and discuss the importance of PLA activities for community involvement in development programmes. Twenty-seven participants attended the training programme.
  • A Training Programme on Issues Affecting Women for NCW Officials was organised by Headquarters at New Delhi from 30-31 May, 2015 on the request of National Commission for Women. The main objectives of the programme were to: develop clear perspective among participants about violence against women; provide an insight on the existing support services and legal safeguards for women and girls facing violence; enhance the skills of participants to provide counseling services to survivors of violence; and orient them on administrative procedures including noting, drafting, record keeping, report writing etc. Sixteen participants attended the programme.

Important Activities

  • First Meeting of the Working Group on Addressing Problems of Obesity and matters related to Junk Foods in India was organised by Ministry of Women and Child Development on 16 June, 2015. The Institute provided technical and logistic support for the same.
  • Three Training Programmes for Master Trainers on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme were organised by Headquarters from 5-6 June, 2015 11-12 June, 2015, 25-26 June, 2015 at Raipur, Jaipur and Bengaluru. The main objectives of these programmes were to: provide guidance and awareness about the various schemes, policies and laws for the education and safety of the girl child; sensitize and train the functionaries as catalysts for social change and to mobilize the community for its engagement for improving the CSR, Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) and enrolment and retention of girl child in schools; provide information and training for better inter-sectoral and inter-institutional convergence at district/block/grass-root levels; and orient the trainers about planning process of advocacy campaign and social and behaviour change. In all two hundred ninety participants attended these programmes.

  • Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for School Principals and Teachers was organised by Headquarters from 1-2 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: share information about salient features of POCSO Act, 2012; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act; discuss ways of communicating with children about sexuality and guarding against child sexual abuse (CSA); and evolve ways and means to develop a strong system of initiating action against abusers of school-going children and preventive measures against child sexual abuse in educational institutions. Thirty-seven participants attended the workshop.
  • Training on Skill Development, Marketing and Income Generation Activities for NGOs and ICDS Functionaries of Western Region was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 1-5 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize participants about skill development training and Income Generation activities for development of women; develop skill among participants in convergence of services with vocational training institutions; and enhance capabilities of participants in marketing skills and networking through information technology and indigenous resources. Twenty-two participants attended the training.
  • Two Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ ACDPOs are being organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru and Regional Centre, Guwahati from 1-30 June, 2015 and 22 June - 21 July, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these course are to: orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme - its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills for guiding grass roots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects.   • Sensitization Training Programme for DPOs & CDPOs on Sneh Shivir was organised by Headquarters from 2-4 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: support development of skills that assist in assessment and analysis of nutritional status of children; orient about the community mobilization techniques; help them in planning of nutritional counselling sessions for their community; and explain about the follow up and monitoring formats of Sneha Shivir. Forty-seven participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training on Preparation of Teaching Aids for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 2- 4 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: strengthen the knowledge and understanding of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on importance of early years in child's life; acquaint them about contextualization of Early Childhood Education Curriculum; strengthen the understanding of participants on theme based approach in PSE effectively guide the supervisors and AWWs; and strengthen their skills on preparing theme based low cost and no cost PSE materials for effective transaction of PSE activities in AWCs. Eleven participants attended the training.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for District Child Protection Officers (DCPOs) was organised by Headquarters from 3-5 June 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss sexual offences committed against children and support for child victims under POCSO Act, 2012; develop an understanding about the role of DCPOs in supporting implementation of the Act; and discuss the challenges in the implementation of the Act and skills required in solving problems. Twenty-six participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Workshop on Child Rights and Child Protection for Magistrates/Members of Juvenile Justice Boards/ SJPUs/ CWCs/ Childline was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 4-5 June, 2015 with the main objectives to : review the status of implementation of juvenile justice act, 2000 by States/UTs; discuss the role and responsibilities of JJBs, CWCs, SJPUs and NGOs in better implementation of Juvenile Justice Act; and identify the obstacles/difficulties in better coordination and linkages among the various functionaries. Twenty-five participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Workshop for Chairpersons and Members of CWCs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 8-9 June, 2015 with main objective to: develop understanding among the participants about the situation of children in India and challenges faced by children for their holistic development; sensitize and orient them Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006 vis-a-vis ICPS; orient them about different roles and responsibilities being carried out by and functioning of Child Welfare Committees; understand the mechanisms for speedy disposal of cases; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration and to enable effective assessment of options; and discuss relevance of non-Institutional Services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation & social reintegration of children including difficulties faced by them. Thirty-six participants attended the workshop.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act 2012 for Child Care Institutions (CCIs) was organised by Headquarters from 8-9 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about the sexual offences being committed against children and consequent thereof; apprise the participants about the salient features of the 'Protection of Children from Sexual Offences' (POCSO) Act, 2012; develop an understanding of the role of CCIs in implementation of the Act; and orient them about different support and rehabilitation services available for victims sexual offences under POCSO Act & Rules, 2012. Thirty-nine participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Training on Schemes/Programmes of Ministry of Women and Child Development for Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 8-10 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient participants about programmes/schemes related to women and children; and enable the participants about procedures/guidelines for getting financial assistance from Government. Seventeen participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Training Programme for Protection Officers under ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 8-12 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law, the existing Juvenile justice System and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient the features of ICPS, its components and the role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and ICPS and their inter-linkages; discuss the role of POs (non-institutional care) in implementation of ICPS in the district; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at the district level; and develop managerial competencies to carry out the responsibilities as Protection Officers. Twenty-nine participants attended the training programme.
  • Awareness Camp on POCSO Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 12 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: aware participants about different provisions made under POCSO Act 2012; and create awareness on the role of different stakeholders including VOs, involved in the implementation of the Act and community at large. Ninety-nine participants attended the camp.
  • Two Sensitisation Programme for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Strengthening and Restructuring of ICDS Programme were organised by Regional Centres, Lucknow and Regional Centre, Guwahati from 15-17 June, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these programmes were to: sensitize the Instructors to the recent initiatives to strengthen and restructure the ICDS programme; acquaint the Instructors with the mechanisms evolved for implementation of ICDS in Mission Mode and enable the Instructors to act as trainer for orienting the AWWs/Supervisors on the restructured ICDS programme. In all thirty seven participants attended these programme.
  • Four Vertical Training Programmes of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme were organised by Regional Centres, Bengaluru, Guwahati and Lucknow (two) from 8-12 June, 2015, 15-19 June, 2015 and 22-26 June, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these programmes were to: enhance the skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as a master trainer for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of all ICDS functionaries at project level for quality improvement in ICDS services; work jointly and formulate joint action plan at project level for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. In all two hundred forty-four participants attended these trainings.
  • Sensitization Programme on Implementation of 'Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 15-17 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants on locus and manifestation of gender violence, discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women specially on domestic violence; analyze the problem and work out strategies for addressing the problem of domestic violence of women; and discuss existing mechanisms/ support services and offer suggestions towards strengthening them. Fifty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Programme on Combating Violence Against Women and Girls was organised by Headquarters from 15-19 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop clear perspective among participants about gender based violence; provide insight on the policies, existing support services and legal safeguards for women and girls to curb the problem; build capacities to provide services to survivors of violence including counseling, livelihood and rehabilitation; and evolve strategies for combating violence against women and children. Forty participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Course on the Care of Children Under-Two for Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations running Government Programmes was organised by Headquarters from 15-19 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on issues relating to health, nutrition and pyscho-social development of children under-two; and equip them with necessary skills for dealing with issues relating to health, nutrition and psycho-social development of children under-two. Nineteen participants attended the course.
  • Sensitization Programme on Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS for Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 17-19 June, 2015 with the main objectives to : enable the participants to understand Reproductive Health; understand basics of HIV/AIDS; discuss the existing strategies on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS; enable the participants to develop skills for effective communication; and facilitate the participants to develop holistic programmes on promoting safe reproductive health and preventing HIV/AIDS. Seventeen participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training Programme on Assessment of Child Learning and Outcomes for ICDS Functionaries was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 22-24 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about the need and importance of Child Learning Outcomes (CLO); discuss standards on Child Learning Outcomes and factors associated with CLOs; and discuss and develop a strategy on Child Learning Outcomes in the ICDS Programme. Seventeen participants attended the programme.
  • Sensitization Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Work Place for Government and Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru 22-24 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the provisions of the Sexual Harassment Act and Rules; discuss the measures to be undertaken by organizations for a safe and harassment free work place as provided in the SHA and its Rules; discuss the recent amendments of CCS Rules in line with SHA and its Rules; help the participants understand the modalities, functions, mechanisms and procedures of Sexual Harassment Committee; develop perspective for evolving and maintaining women friendly work places. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.
  • Training Programme on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for MLTCs/AWTCs was organised by Headquarters from 22-25 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the technical knowledge on Infant and Young Child Feeding; build their counselling skills on exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding; learn the growth monitoring and measuring; and practice IYCF counselling with emphasis on correct positioning, helping mothers to breast feed through clinical practice. Fourteen participants attended the programme.
  • Workshop on Critical Issues in dealing with Children in Need of Care and Protection for District Child Protection Officers was organised by Headquarters from 23-24 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: share the present status of child protection related activities and ICPS in the States; share the experiences in putting the knowledge about child protection and care to use at the field level and challenges faced; and evolve effective strategies and solutions for better implementation of JJ Act/ICPS. Thirty-five Participants attended the workshop.
  • Skill Training for CDPOs on New MIS and Use of MCP Card was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 24-26 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the CDPOs to new MIS and MCP card in ICDS; develop necessary skills among the participants for using the new MIS registers and use of the MCP card; and enable the participants to impart meaningful training to the Supervisors and the AWWs. Thirty-five participants attended the training.
  • Skill Training on ECCE for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 24-26 June, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on conceptual framework of ECCE; orient them on key child care behaviors; and facilitate participants to incorporate best child care practices in the existing set up of ICDS for strengthening the ECCE component. Twenty-five participants attended the training.

  • Training for Master Trainers on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Lucknow from 20-21 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: provide guidance and awareness about the various schemes, policies and laws for the education and safety of the girl child; sensitize and train the functionaries as catalysts for social change and to mobilize the community for its engagement for improving the CSR, Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) and enrolment & retention of girl child in schools; provide information and training for better inter-sectoral and inter-institutional convergence at district/block/grass-root levels; and orient the trainers about planning process of advocacy campaign for social and behaviour change. One hundred and one participants attended the training.
  • Third Meeting of the Working Group on addressing Problems of Obesity and Matters related to Junk Food in India was organised by the Institute on 28 July, 2015 and the report is under finalisation.

  • Skill Training on New MIS & use of MCP Card for Instructors of AWTCs & MLTCs was organised by Headquarters from 1-3 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the concept of New MIS and Use of MCP card; familiarize them with issues relating to MIS related procedures, activities; health and nutrition issues linked to MCP card its usage and implementation; and enable them to impart meaningful training programmes to the Supervisors and AWWs on new MIS and MCP Card. Seven participants attended training.
  • Sensitization Training Programme on prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Law Enforcement Agencies, ICPS & ICDS Functionaries was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 1-3 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss legal provisions and support services for rescue and rehabilitation of trafficked women and children; and suggest the ways and means to prevent trafficking of women and children. Forty participants attended the training programme.
  • Regional Workshop on POCSO Act 2012 for School Principals and Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 2 - 3 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about the sexual offences committed against children and provision under POCSO Act,2012; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the act to protect child rights; and discuss the problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skill required for protection of victims and sexual violence and child witness of sexual offences. Forty-four participants attended the workshop.
  • Awareness Camp on Life Skills Education for Parents and Adolescents was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 2 July, 2015. The main objectives of awareness camp were to: sensitize about growing problems and challenges of adolescent girls; orient parents about coping with problems of adolescent girls and their management; and acquaint participants with skills in Life Skill Education for holistic development. Ninety-five participants attended the camp.

  • Orientation Training on Conceputalising and Executing a Project for Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 6-10 July 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance the knowledge of the participants in conceptualizing and executing a project; and develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring, evaluation and sustainability of a project. Eighteen participants attended the training programme.
  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 6 July - 4 August, 2015. The main objectives of the course were to: orient the CDPOs/ACDPOs to various components of ICDS scheme; enable them to understand their own role, as well as the roles and responsibilities of other functionaries of the scheme; equip them with adequate knowledge and skills for providing the job training to peripheral workers of the scheme; and facilitate them to develop skill necessary for administration and management on the ICDS scheme. Twenty-nine participants are attending the course.
  • Orientation Programme on Counselling Skills for Institutions Providing Care to Distressed Women was organised by Headquarters from 6-10 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about women empowerment and gender issues; create awareness about identification of problems of women and diagnose/understand their problems; familiarize them about existing programmes and support services for women in distress; enable them to develop/upgrade communication, negotiation and counselling skills; and promote networking among NGOs and institutions providing support services to women in distress. Thirty-four participants attended the programme.
  • Advocacy Workshop on Child Mental Health for School Principals/Teachers and Parents was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 10 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: understand the importance of mental health needs of children; develop positive mental health attitudes, values and beliefs which facilitate their functioning with children; identify the learning and behavioral problems among children; and promote counselling services for children in schools. Fifty-six participants attended the workshop.
  • Two Training Programmes on Issues Affecting Women for NCW- functionaries/staff were organised by Headquarters on the request of NCW on 10 and 11 July, 2015. The main objectives of these programmes were to: develop clear perspective among participants about construction of gender with reference to violence against women; enhance the skills of participants in dealing with survivors of violence; and orient them on administrative procedures including noting, drafting and record keeping, etc. In all twenty-seven participants attended these programmes.
  • Skill Training on ECCE for DPOs/CDPOs was organised by Headquarters from 13-15 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the challenges in ECCE in the context of ECE policy; review the skills needed in implementation of ECCE in the light of restructured ICDS, build the capacity of DPOs and CDPOs to guide the grass root level functionaries on effective implementation ECCE component and their roles in Monitoring. Twenty-five participants attended the training programme.
  • Orientation Course for Statistical Assistant on Management Information System in ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 13-15 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on the revised MIS in ICDS; acquaint them of their role in the monitoring of achievements and goals; and equip them with skills in data management and analysis. Twenty-six participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Programme on Child Rights and Protection for Social Workers and Counsellors of DCPUs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 13-17 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on child rights issues; orient superintendents of Child Care Institution about ICPS structure, policies and Acts; sensitize the functionaries about the functions of Child Care Institutions; and facilitate adequate understanding about the needs and the psychological problems of children. Fifty-seven participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Integrating Gender Perspectives in Planning and Management of Projects was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Lucknow from 13-17 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants on gender issues and methodology for incorporating gender in agenda of organizations; identify approaches to strategically integrate gender perspective in planning and management of projects of the organizations; prepare indicators on integrating gender that can be used in planning of the projects; and apprise them about the policies and programmes of Government for gender mainstreaming. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.
  • Three Vertical Training Programmes of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme were organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 13-17 July, 2015 & 27-31 July, 2015 and Regional Centre, Indore from 20-24 July, 2015. The main objectives of these training programmes were to: enhance the skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as a master trainer for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of all ICDs functionaries at project level for quality improvement in ICDS Services; work jointly and formulate joint action plan at project level for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. In all one hundred and twelve participants attended the training programmes.
  • Orientation Training programme for ICDS functionaries on SABLA, IGMSY Schemes was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from: 14-16 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: Orient the ICDS functionaries about the Rajiv Gandhi scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls- SABLA & Indira Gandhi Matritatva Sahyog Yojna (IGMSY) of MWCD, GOI; apprise them of their role and responsibility in creating the awareness among the AWWs and Supervisors; impart skills in assessment, interpretation of growth curves and counselling of mother using MCP Card effectively for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. Eleven participants attended the training programme.
  • Awareness Camp on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO),2012 for School Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 16 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: review the situation of children in India with special focus on gender-based violence against children; orient on salient features of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and its Rules; discuss the role and responsibilities of various stakeholders under the act; and role and responsibilities of voluntary organization in better implementation of POCSO Act-2012. Thirty participants attended the camp.
  • Orientation Training Programme for Protection Officers of DCPUs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 20-24 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: examine the issue of child rights and protection in the Indian context; enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law, the existing Juvenile justice system and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient the features of ICPS, its components and the role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and ICPS and their interlinkages; discuss the role of POs in implementation of ICPS in the district; evolve strategy for networking convergence and coordination mechanisms under ICPS; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at the district level; and develop managerial competencies to carry out the responsibilities as DCPOs. Eighteen participants attended the training.
  • Skill Training on Community Mobilisation, Advocacy, Awareness and IEC Campaign on the issues relating to Child Development was organised by Headquarters from 20-24 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the concept and importance of community mobilization, participation; advocacy, awareness and IEC campaign; improve skills of the participants in methods and techniques of motivating and mobilizing community for awareness generation & IEC campaign; and enable them to elicit community participation, awareness and campaign for implementing ICDS programme effectively. Sixteen participants attended the training.
  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 20-24 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: review the implementation of restructured & strengthened ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial skills. Twenty-seven participants attended the course.
  • Sensitization Training on Protection of Children against Sexual Offences POCSO Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 22-23 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the gender based violence and rights of children; apprise the participants of the salient features of the 'Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and its Rules 2012; and orient them about the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in implementing the Act.   • Orientation Programme for Mother NGOs of Health Ministry on Growth Monitoring and Usage of Mother and Child Protection Card was organised by Headquarters from 22-24 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the functionaries of MNGOs/FNGOs to the New WHO Child Growth Standards and the joint MCP Card; and equip them with necessary skills to use new WHO growth chart and joint MCP card in ICDS. Twenty-six participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training for ICDS Functionaries on Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) was organised by Headquarters from 27-29 July,2015 with the main objectives to: orient the ICDS functionaries to the principles of Social and Behaviour Change Communication and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; develop skills for effective value addition in communication process; enable trainees to develop communication materials for behaviour change; and enrich the participants develop need based model for social and behaviour change communication in their respective work places. Twenty-five participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Programme on Child Protection for Project Coordinators of Open Shelters Under ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 27-29 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: Orient the importance of child rights and protection in the Indian context; enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children, the existing Juvenile justice system and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient the features of ICPS, the linkages and importance of networking and partnership; discuss the role of open shelters in ICPS; understand the importance of minimum standards of care in open shelters; and build managerial competencies among the participants for managing open shelters. Thirty-eight participants attended the programme.
  • Training on Empowerment of Women through Micro-enterprise for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 27-31 July 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of women; acquaint the participants about promoting micro enterprise for women; impart knowledge and skills in selection of viable economic activities, credit, marketing and other support services for micro enterprises; and develop capabilities on preparation of business plan for starting micro enterprise. Thirty-five participants attended the training.
  • Workshop on Prevention of Gender Biased Sex Selective Elimination and Female Infanticide was organised by Headquarters from 28-30 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants about status of girl child in India with emphasis on gender biased sex selective elimination and female infanticide; sensitize the participants about the consequences of declining sex ratio and child sex ratio; familiarize the participants with various Government policies, rights, legislations and schemes related to girl child; and provide a forum to discuss and evolve strategies for prevention of gender biased sex selective elimination. Forty-two participants attended the workshop.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for Police Officials of Northern States was organised by Headquarters from 30-31 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the participants about salient features of POCSO Act and Rules, 2012 and role of implementing agencies to protect child rights; sensitize the participants about the sexual offences being committed against children and consequent trauma faced by them; and discuss about problems in the implementation of the Act and skills to handle cases of child sexual abuse. Thirty-eight participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Workshop for Members of JJBs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 30-31 July, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize and orient participant to the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act. 2006 vis-à-vis ICPS; create clarify and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of members of JJBs and different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices for strengthening implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of NGOs and community as provided in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration and to enable effective assessment of options; and facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Fifteen participants attended the programme.

Important Activities

  • MWCD organised the Third Meeting of re-constituted Committee of Social Audit on 10 August, 2015, in collaboration with NIPCCD at the Conference Hall of the Institute. The Meeting was attended by 17 persons. The Members of the Committee shared their views on important issues related to Social Audit in JJ Act, 2000. This was followed by a presentation by each of the two Sub-groups on Social Audit Formats for CCIs, SAAs, CWCs, JJBs and SJPUs. A discussion on the process of Social Audit also took place and need for uniformity in operationalising the Social Audit Mechanism across the country was underlined. Appropriate capacity building inputs for undertaking social audit was highlighted and stakeholders for the purpose, from among the participating members of Social Audit Committee were identified. Further, responses on Social Audit Formats were invited from the Members of the Committee before those could be shared with a larger consultative group, including State Governments, several members of academia and experts actively involved in child protection, who were to be invited for wider consultation the subject.
  • Training on Usage of Public Management System (PFMS) Portal under Indira Gandhi Matritatava Sahyog Yojna (IGMSY) for the Functionaries of State Govt./UT Administration was organised by Ministry of Women and Child Development from 24-28 August, 2015. The Institute provided technical and logistic support for the same.
  • Three Meetings of Working Group on addressing Problems of Obesity and matters related to Junk Food among the Children were held at NIPCCD and the Working Group submitted the final report to MWCD on 17 August, 2015 titled "Report of the Working Group on Addressing Consumption of Foods High in Fat, Salt and Sugar (HFSS) and Promotion of Healthy Snacks in School India".

Regular Training Programmes

  • Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Counselling is being organised by Headquarters from August, 2015 - July, 2016 with the main objectives to: explore and evolve attitudes, values and beliefs that facilitates work with children as mental health professionals; acquire knowledge and understanding of theoretical constructs and socio-cultural perspectives in the context of counselling; develop skills to plan, provide and monitor-counselling interventions for children and child- related systems; and develop skills of mobilizing resources and networking and collaborating with stakeholders. Twenty students have been enrolled for the year 2015-16.
  • Parental Workshop on various Academic and Psychosocial Issues of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 01 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize parents about various psychosocial issues, children face; make parents familiar with the nature of various problems in children; and develop parent's skill to play an active role in helping children to deal effectively with the various problems, children face. Hundred & eighty seven participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Meeting for Nodal Officers dealing with Training of ICDS Functionaries was organised by Headquarters from 3-4 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the participants about recent developments in ICDS: discuss with them about strategies for making effective training plan of ICDS functionaries; and analyse the problems hindering success. Thirty-seven participants attended the meeting.
  • Orientation Training on POCSO Act, 2012 for Representatives of NGOs was organised by Headquarters from 3-4 August 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the participants about salient features of POCSO Act; discuss role of NGOs in supporting victims of child sexual abuse and their families; and develop action plan to generate awareness on POCSO Act, 2012 among population groups. Twenty-five participants attended the training.
  • Programme for Capacity Building of Stakeholders on Child Protection was organised by Headquarters from 3-5 August, 2015 at Pune with the main objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; enable them to understand salient features of Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act 2000 & POCSO Act, 2012; and develop an Action Plan for the stakeholders for effective child care and protection in the State. Thirty-one participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Programme on Empowerment of Women through Micro-Enterprise for Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 10-14 August, 2015 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the concept, need and scope of micro enterprise; inform the participants on organizing women into SHGs, clusters and federations; discuss their role of trainers for capacity building of SHG Members in identifying appropriate income generation activities for sustainable livelihood: discuss forward/backward linkages while implementing schemes for economic empowerment of women; and provide a forum for sharing the experiences and good practices on for economic empowerment of women. Nineteen participants attended the programme.
  • Two Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Regional Centres Bengaluru and Headquarters from 10 August – 9 September, 2015 and 17 August - 17 September, 2015 respectively. The main objectives of these courses are to: orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries with respect to restructured and strengthened ICDS and New Who Child Growth Standards, MCP card, schemes of SABLA & IGMSY; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grass roots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. In all sixty-three participants are attending these courses.
  • Sensitization Programme for School Teachers on Child Mental Health was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 11-13 August, 2015 with the objectives to: sensitize teachers on mental health issues concerning children in schools; acquaint teachers with learning and behavioural problems of children; and enable the teachers to develop a strategy for providing or seeking timely intervention from specialized agencies. Thirty participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training on ECCE for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 11-13 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop a better understanding of early childhood years, ECD, ECCD, ECCE and linkages with one another among the trainees; make them understand the issues relating to ECCE in the light of national policy of ECCE and restructured ICDS; and enable the Instructors to impart effective training on ECCE and guide AWWs and Supervisors for proper delivery of ECCE programme to ensure optimum early childhood development in children. Twenty-eight participants attended the training programme.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for School Counsellors and School Social Workers was organised by Headquarters from 17-18 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss various provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012; appreciate the linkage between neglect, abuse and trauma as also its impact on the development of children; and provide them necessary skills for imparting counseling to child victims of sexual abuses and their families. Thirty participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Training Programme on Child Rights and Child Protection for District Child Protection Officers and Functionaries of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 17-21 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: provide in depth understanding of ICPS programme framework and the respective roles and responsibilities of District Child Protection Unit; orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions; create an understanding of the good child protection practices including various legislations, policies and programmes etc.; and facilitate them in effectively discharging their duties. Forty participants attended the training programme.
  • Orientation Programme for Newly Appointed District Programme Officers was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 17-22 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the DPOs about ICDS programme - its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries with respect to restructured and strengthened ICDS and New WHO growth standards, MCP card, schemes of SABLA and IGMSY ; familiarize them with the role and responsibilities of health and ICDS functionaries; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding ICDS functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation. Fourteen participants attended the programme.
  • Parental Education Workshop was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 19 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop an understanding about the needs and holistic development of the adolescent children; and help the parents to help their children to cope up with the physical, emotional and mental changes during this period for optimum development. Fifty participants attended the workshop.
  • Training on Fund Raising Techniques and Resource Management for Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 19-21 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: acquaint the representatives of voluntary organizations to fund raising know-how and techniques; impart knowledge on need for developing internal controls and accounting systems for effective utilization and management of funds; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Thirty-eight participants attended the training.
  • Sensitization Programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act, 2012) was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 20-21 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the participants about salient features of POCSO Act, 2012; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act; enable them to understand and contextualize the rights of children; orient them about the ways to communicate with children about sexuality; and discuss with them about the ways and means to develop a strong system of initiating action against abusers in case of abuse and monitor preventive measures in educational institutions. Forty-four participants attended the programme.
  • Refresher Training Programme for Protection Officers under ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow 24-28 August, 2015 with the main objectives to : enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law, the existing juvenile system and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient them about various features of ICPS, its components and role of various stakeholders under JJ system and ICPS and their inter-linkages; discuss the role of non-institutional care in implementation of ICPS at district level; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at district level; and develop managerial competencies to carry out the responsibilities as protection officers. Twenty participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Training Programme for ICDS Functionaries on SABLA, IGMSY Scheme was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 24-26 August, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient ICDS functionaries about the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls – SABLA & Indira Gandhi Matritava Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY); and apprise them of their role and responsibility in creating the awareness among the AWWs and Supervisors. Thirty-seven participants attended the training programme.
  • Workshop on Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA) 2005 for College/ University Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 24-26, August 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the college/ university teachers to the trends in domestic violence over the past decade and the measures adopted to combat it; orient them on the provisions of the "Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; and enable the college teachers to assume a proactive role in bringing about awareness among students and general public on the issue. Forty-one participants attended the training.
  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace for Govt./PSU Officials was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 25-26 August 2015 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on locus and manifestation of gender violence; discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women specially at work place; analyze the problem and work out strategies for addressing the problem of sexual harassment of women at work place; and discuss existing mechanisms/ support services and provide suggestions for strengthening them. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Identification and Management of Behaviour Problems of Children for Functionaries of CCIs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 26-28 August 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants on psycho social needs of children; orient them about role of Superintendents of Child Care Institutions.; make them aware about the ICPS Structure, Policies and Acts; and sensitization about the functions of Child Care Institutions; and facilitate adequate understanding about the needs and the behaviour problems of children. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.

The main objectives of these programmes were to: develop insight among district officials regarding assessment of nutritional status of children along with practical session on growth monitoring weighing and plotting of children; apprise the participants regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Bal Swachhta Mission; highlight the importance of IYCF for the survival, growth and development of children; apprise them regarding community based management of moderate and severely underweight children through sneha shivir; equip the trainees with the skills to organise mothers' meeting for educating about healthy child care practices. In all ninety-five participants attended these training programmes.
  • Training Programme on Developing Counselling Skills and Support Services for Women in Distress is being organised by Headquarters from 31 August - 4 September, 2015. The main objectives of the training are to: sensitise the participants about magnitude, causes, nature and manifestation of violence against women in India; development understanding about the trauma faced by distressed women; provide insight on the policies, existing support services and legal safeguards for women and distress; promote networking among NGO and institutions providing support services to women in distress; and enhance communication and counselling skills for providing psychosocial support to distress women. Thirty-three participants are attending the training programme.
  • Training Programme on Capacity Building of Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations on Conceptualizing and Executing a Project is being organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 31 August – 4 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the participants in identifying and developing a perspective on formulating project proposals; enhance the knowledge base and skills of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and understand the documentation and reporting mechanisms in project implementation. Twenty-seven participants are attending the training programme.

  • The Institute was felicitated with Prajavani Excellence Award as a recognition in the field of education, training and human resource development on 12th September 2015 in a function organised by the Prajavani group of Publications and CSR, Mumbai at TajVivanta, Bengaluru. The Award consisted of a plaque with the name of the Institute.

Regular Training Programmes

  • Six Training Programmes on Swachh Evam Swasth Bachpan for DPOs were organised by Regional Centres, Indore, Guwahati, Bengaluru and Lucknow with the main objectives to: develop insight among district officials regarding assessment of nutritional status of children along with practical session on growth monitoring weighing and plotting of children; apprise the participants regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Bal Swachhta Mission; highlight the importance of IYCF for the survival, growth and development of children; apprise them regarding community based management of moderate and severely underweight children through Sneha shivir; equip the trainees with the skills to organise mothers’ meeting for educating about healthy child care practices. Out of these six programmes, two were organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati (7-8 September 2015 and 14-15 September 2015) and two by Regional Centre Bengaluru (14-15 September 2014 and 28-29 September 2015). Two more programmes, in the series, were organised by Regional Centres Indore and Lucknow from 4-5 September 2015 and 15-16 September 2015 respectively. In all 132 participants attended these programmes.
  • Workshop on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 for Law Enforcement Agencies/SJPU was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 1-2 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of participants about salient features of POCSO Act and Rules, 2012; sensitize the participants about sexual offences being committed against children and consequent trauma faced by them; and suggest measures in combating problems and constraints in implementation of the Act. Thirty-five participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Programme on Management of Malnutrition for Functionaries of ICDS and NRHM of Western States was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 1-4 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize participants about severity and magnitude of malnutrition among women and children; orient them about programmes and schemes of Government on eradication of malnutrition; develop skills in coordination and convergence for prevention of malnutrition and referral of severely malnourished; and develop a strategy on effective home visits and counseling for positive behavioural changes. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Holistic Development of Adolescents for Officials of Education Department was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-4 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the officials of Education department to physical and psychological changes during adolescence; apprise them to the reproductive health, educational, life skill and nutritional issues of adolescents; and help the officials to understand their role in ensuring healthy development of adolescents in schools. Sixteen participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training on Project Formulation for Executives of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-4 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the executives of NGOs to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance their knowledge base and skills on the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and analyze pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals. Thirty participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Programme for Mother NGOs of Health Ministry on Growth Monitoring and Usage of Mother & Child Protection Card was organised by Headquarters from 7-9 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the functionaries of MNGOs/FNGOs to the New WHO Child Growth Standards and the joint MCP Card; and equip them with necessary skills to use new WHO growth chart and joint MCP Card in ICDS. Twenty-eight participants attended the training.
  • Two Skill Training programmes on ECCE for DPOs/CDPOs were organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru and Headquarters from 7-9 September, 2015 and 28-30 September, 2015respectively. The main objectives of these courses were to: discuss the challenges in ECCE in the context of ECE policy; review the skills needed in implementation of ECCE in the light of restructured ICDS; build the capacity of DPOs to guide the grass root level functionaries on effective implementation of ECCED component; and orient the participants on their roles in monitoring. Forty-three participants attended these training.
  • Orientation Training Programme of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006 for Chairpersons and Members of CWCs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 7-11 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize and orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create clarity and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of CWC and other different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at regional level for strengthening implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration and to enable effective options assessment; and facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Twenty-three participants attended the training.
  • Regional Level Workshop for DPOs & CDPOs on Recent Development and Best Practices in ICDS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 8-9 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: share experiences and best practices between the States which would be beneficial for all stakeholders; enhance the understanding of methods and procedures that could be adopted for providing effective, efficient and appropriate services to beneficiaries; and share issues and challenges faced during the course of implementation of ICDS programme. Seventeen participants attended the workshop.
  • Sensitization Programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 9-11 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the participants about salient features of POCSO Act, 2012; sensitize the participants about the sexual offences being committed against children and consequent trauma faced by them; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act; enable them to understand and contextualize the rights of children; orient them about different support and rehabilitation services available for victims of sexual offence under POCSO Act & Rules 2012; and discuss about difficulties/problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required in solving these problems. Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.
  • Sensitization Programme for Polices Officials, ICDS Functionaries and NGOs on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, (PWDVA), 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 9-11 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: create awareness about the provisions of PWDV Act, 2005; and the roles and responsibilities of Police Officials and other stakeholders. Thirty-six participants attended the training programme.
  • Workshop on Critical Issues in dealing with Children in Need of Care and Protection for Legal cum Probation Officers and Protection Officers was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Indore from 10-11 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the status of Juvenile Justice and ICPS in the States; share experiences and challenges faced while handling children in need of care and protection; and come out with effective strategies for effective handling of matters related to children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law. Sixty-one participants attended the workshop.
  • Sensitization Programme on Empowering Women for Self Defense for Representatives of Civil Society Organisation, Women’s Colleges, Community Defense Committees for Women and Social Workers was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 11-12 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize participants on gender discrimination and gender based violence; aware participants on different constitutional provisions and legal regulation for protection of women (PWDV Act, 2005, POCSO Act 2012 etc.);sensitise participants on potential threats and rescue management delivery system for women in danger; and discuss role and responsibilities of different stakeholders for protection of women. Seventy-one participants attended the programme.

  • Skill Training on Community Mobilization, Advocacy, Awareness and IEC Campaign on the issues relating to Child Development was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 14-18 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the officials of ICDS to the concept and importance of community mobilization and participation, advocacy awareness and IEC campaign; and improve their skills in adopting appropriate methods and techniques of motivating and mobilizing community for eliciting community participation for implementing ICDS programme effectively. Forty-five participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Course for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations on Monitoring and Evaluation of Developmental Programmes for Women and Children was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Indore from 14-18 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participant to the concept and importance of Monitoring and Evaluation in Social Development Programmes; apprise the participants to the latest methods/techniques of monitoring and evaluation of the programmes; and enhance the skills of participants for quality monitoring and supervision of women and child development programmes. Seventeen participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Training Programme for Superintendents of Child Care Institutions was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 21-23 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: focus on the need and importance of Child Care Institution; orient on the role of superintendents of Child Care Institution; know about the ICPS Structure, Policies and Acts; sensitize about the functions the functions of Child Care Institutions; and facilitate adequate understanding about the needs and psychological problems of children. Twenty-four participants attended the programme.
  • Training on Counselling Skills for the Counselors of Family Counseling Centres was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 21-23 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants on the provisions of the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence’ Act, 2005; provide counselling skills to participants to enhance their capacity in running FCCs; and discuss the functions of family counseling centres and coordination among different stakeholders.Nineteen participants attended the training.
  • Sensitization Programme on Implementation of ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 21-23 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about manifestation of gender violence; discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women specially on domestic violence; analyze the problem and work out strategies for addressing the problem of domestic violence of women; and discuss existing mechanisms/ support services and offer suggestions towards strengthening them. Thirty-nine participants attended the programme.
  • Training Programme on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for MLTCs/AWTCs was organised by Headquarters from 21-24 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the technical knowledge on Infant and Young Child Feeding; build the counseling skills on exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding;learn the growth monitoring and measuring;and practice IYCF counseling with emphasis on correct positioning, helping mothers to breast feed through clinical practice. Eighteen participants attended the training.

  • Sensitization Programme for Members of SJPUs and Probation Officers on J.J. System and ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 28-30 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on UNCRC and Constitutional safeguards for children; enable them to develop an understanding of the Juvenile Justice System; create clarity and understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the Act; and ensure speedy disposal of cases and orient them to the main features of ICPS: its components and approaches. Thirty-four participants attended the programme.
  • Consultation Meet on Safety and Security of Girls in Schools was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Indore from 29-30 September, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants on safety and security of school going girls; share government and non-government initiatives for safety of school girls; discuss the role of stakeholders in prevention of violence and protection of school going girls; and evolve strategies and interventions for ensuring safety of school girls.   • Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for Elected Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions was organised by Headquarters from 5-6 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: appraise the members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) about sexual offences against children and salient features of the 'Protection of children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act; develop an understanding of their role in protecting children against child sexual abuse and supporting child victims and their families; and evolve strategies for elimination of sexual offences at the community level with support of PRIs. Fifteen participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Training on POCSO Act, 2012 for School Principals and Teachers was organised by Headquarters from 5-6 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about the sexual offences committed against children and provision under POCSO Act, 2012; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act to protect child rights and discuss the problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required for protection of victims and sexual violence and child witness of sexual offences. Twenty five participants attended the training programme.
  • Orientation Training Programme for DCPOs of DCPUs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 5-9 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: examine the issue of child rights and protection in the Indian context; enable the participants to develop understanding on various issues concerning children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law; the existing juvenile justice system and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient them about the features of ICPS, its components and the role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and ICPS and their inter-linkages; discuss the role of POs in implementation of ICPS at the district level; evolve strategy for networking, convergence and coordination mechanisms under ICPS; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at the district level; and develop managerial competencies to carry out the responsibilities as DCPOs. Twenty-one participants attended the training programme.
  • Training Programme on Economic Empowerment of Women for Chief Functionaries of Voluntary organization of Western Region was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 5-9 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient participants about latest policies and programmes on Women Empowerment; develop skills in organizing and sustaining Women’s Groups; and enhance capabilities of participants on convergence of services for women empowerment. Thirty participants attended the programme.
  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Headquarters from 5-9 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; appraise CDPOs/ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial. Twenty four participants attended the course.
  • Orientation Training Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 for Magistrates/Members of JJBs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 6-8 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize and orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create clarity and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of JJBs and other personnels involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at regional level for strengthening implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding on the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration; and facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Twenty one participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training on ECCE for CDPOs/DPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 6-8 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the challenges in ECCE in context of ECCE policy; review the skills needed in implementation of ECCE in the light of restructured ICDS; and build the capacity of CDPOs/DPOs to guide the grass root level functionaries on effective implementation of ECCE component and their roles in monitoring. Nineteen participants attended the training.
  • Orientation Programme on Counselling techniques and support services for women in distress for functionaries of Government and Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 12-16 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitise the participants to the issues of gender and women empowerment; build the sensitivity among the participants about problems of women in distress; enhance information on existing programmes and support services for women in distress; develop communication and counseling skills among the participants; and discuss methods, types, techniques and processes of counselling. Seventy participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Training on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 12-16 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about setting up a voluntary organization, process of institution building, administration and management; help the participants to learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about the ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and orient the representatives of NGOs to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organizations. Seventeen participants attended the training programme.
  • Skill Training on Community Mobilisation, Advocacy, Awareness and IEC Campaign on the Issues relating to Child Development was organised by Headquarters from 12-16 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the concept and importance of community mobilization, participation; advocacy, awareness and IEC campaign; improve skills of the participants in methods and techniques of motivating and mobilizing community for awareness generation & IEC campaign; and enable the participants to elicit community participation, awareness and campaign for implementing ICDS programme effectively. Eighteen participants attended the training programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Capacity Building of Women through Leadership Development was organised by Headquarters from 12-16 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants about the evolution of leadership and its relevance for women; discuss the scope and existing mechanisms that foster leadership development among women; understand the role of change agents in developing skills and capacities of women for taking up leadership roles; and promote networking and partnership among organisations working for capacity building of women. Seventeen participants attended the programme.
  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for PRIs and NGOs from high incidence districts of Eastern Region was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 13-14 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: acquaint the participants to the nature, process, magnitude and consequence of trafficking of women and children; make the participants aware about the existing legal provision and support services for rescue and rehabilitation of trafficked women and children; enable them to understand the need and importance of networking and developing linkages of the stakeholders to combat trafficking in their region; and make them realize their role in preventing trafficking. Thirty Five participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training for ICDS Functionaries on Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 14-16 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the ICDS functionaries to the principles of social and behavior change communication and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; develop skills for effective value addition in communication process; enable trainees to develop communication material for behaviour change; and enrich the participants develop need based model for social and behavior change communication in their respective work places. Eleven participants attended the training.
  • Three Refresher Training Programmes on Women and Child Development were organised by Headquarters at Haryana from 14-16 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants regarding BBBP Programme, POCSO Act,2012 and other Acts pertaining to women and girl child; enhance revision of participants regarding food safety measures in ICDS; give an insight about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Bal Swachta Mission; and refresh IYCF Practices among the participants. In all, two hundred & eighty four participants attended the training programmes.
  • Training Programme for Master Trainers on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was organised by Headquarters at Chandigarh from 16-17 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: provide guidance and awareness about the various schemes, policies and laws for the education and safety of the girl child; sensitize and train the functionaries as catalysts for social change and to mobilize he community for its engagement for improving the CSR, Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB),enrolment & retention of girl child in schools; provide information and training for better inter-sectoral and inter-institutional convergence at district/block/grass-root levels; and orient the trainers about planning process of advocacy campaign for social and behaviour change. Ninety seven participants attended the programme.
  • Two training programmes on Swachh Evam Swasth Bachpan for DPOs were organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 19-20 October, 2015 and 30-31 October 2015 with the main objectives to: develop insight of participants regarding assessment of nutritional status of children along with practical session on growth monitoring weighing and plotting of children; apprise the participants regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Bal Swachhta Mission; highlight the importance of IYCF for the survival, growth and development of children; and apprise the participants regarding, community based management of moderate and severely under- weight children through sneha shivir. In all, fifty five participants attended these programmes.
  • Two training programmes for Master Trainers on One Stop Centre Scheme were organised by Headquarters at Regional Centres Lucknow and Bengaluru from 19-20 October, 2015 and 26-27 October, 2015 respectively with the main objectives to: orient Master Trainers on issues related to VAW and constitutional and legal provisions thereof; enhance their knowledge and skills in providing medico-legal and psychosocial support to aggrieved women; help them to develop skills in imparting training to functionaries/stakeholders so that the aggrieved women get support and redressal of their problems under one roof; and provide a tool for capacity building of all stakeholders to perform tasks together through convergence at various level. In all, thirty two participants attended these programmes.
  • Orientation Programme on Identification and Management of Behaviour Problems of Children for Functionaries of CCIs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 19-21 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants on psycho social needs of children; orient the role of Superintendents of Child Care Institutions; know about the ICPS Structure, Policies and Acts; sensitize the function of Child Care Institutions; facilitate adequate understanding about the needs and the behaviour problems of children. Twenty Three participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Health and Nutrition Care of Children for Protection Officers of DCPUs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 19-21 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on the minimum standards of care laid under the Act related to nutrition and health care of children in child care institutions; appraise the participants on the salient features of Food Security Act and its implementation in CCIs; make them aware of the importance of personal hygiene and sanitation; equip them with aspects of life skill education and personality development to enable preparation of robust Individual Care Plan for children in CCIs; appraise them on the strategies of networking and coordinating with all Government Departments to build inter-sectoral linkages on child protection issues. Forty participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Workshop on Child Rights and Child Protection for Chairpersons and Members of CWCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 26-27 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop understanding among the participants about the situation of children in India and challenges faced by children for their holistic development; sensitize and orient participants to the juvenile justice (care and protection of children) act 2000, its amendment Act 2006 and ICPS; orient the participants about the functioning, roles and responsibilities of child welfare committees; understand and facilitate mechanisms for speedy disposal of cases; discuss the efficacy of institutional & non institutional services under the Act; develop understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social, integration and to enable effective assessment of options in the best interest of children and; understand the role of different stakeholders as provided in the Act. Fourteen participants attended the workshop.
  • Training Programme on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for Voluntary Organisations DPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 26-29 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the technical knowledge on Infant and Young Child Feeding; build the counseling skills on exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding; learn the growth monitoring and measuring; and practice IYCF counseling with emphasis on correct positioning, helping mothers to breast feed through clinical practice. Twenty five participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Programme on Child Rights and Protection for Social Workers and Counsellors of DCPUs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 26- 30 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on issues relating to child care protection and child rights; orient them on the managing trends in child care and protection including institutional and non-institutional services; discuss the constitutional provisions and programmes &services for children under various schemes of the Government; enhance the skills of participants in working with children; and discuss the strategies and challenges in implementing the ICPS scheme at the DCPU level. Twenty participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Training Programme for Superintendents of Child Care Institutions was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 28- 30 October, 2015 with the main objectives to: focus on the need and importance of child care institution; orient on the role of superintendents of child care institution; know about the ICPS structure, policies and Acts; and facilitate adequate understanding about the needs and the psychological problems of children. Important Activities

  • 'Women in India Exhibition' was organised by Ministry of Women and Child Development from 13th to 23rd November 2015 at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi. The theme for this year was “Women and Organic Products”. The theme was decided in order to give exposure to women who are producers and sellers of organic products from all over India. The exhibition of India provided a platform to women entrepreneurs of organic products to showcase and sell different organic products. The exhibition was organised in collaboration with Navdanya, Organic Farming Association of India (OFAI) and PR Grid. In addition to the exhibition, there were different informative programmes to create awareness regarding organic products like slogan writing, quiz, painting competition etc. In all, 323 women entrepreneurs participated in the Mela.
  • Ministry of Women and Child Development organised award ceremony for National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement-2015, Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award-2015 and National Awards for Child Welfare-2014 on 14 November, 2015 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The function was presided over by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble President of India, who also presented the awards. Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Hon’ble Minister of Women and Child Development also graced the occasion. The Institute provided logistic support to MWCD for the celebration of this function.

  • Orientation Programme on Mobilizing and Management of Community Resources for Functionaries of Government and Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from16-20 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants to the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as sustainable alternatives for programme implementation.   • Job training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 16 November-16 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries with respect to restructured and strengthened ICDS and New Who Child Growth Standards, MCP card, schemes of SABLA & IGMSY; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grass roots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. Fourteen participants are attending the training.
  • A Parental workshop on role of parents in holistic development of their children was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 18 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop an understanding about the needs and holistic development of the children; and help parents to help their children to cope with the physical, emotional and mental changes and demands during different stages for optimum development. Sixty two participants attended the workshop.
  • A Workshop on Food Habits, Changing Lifestyle and Nutritional needs of Adolescents was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 18 -19 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about food habits and nutritional needs of the adolescents; impart knowledge on the indicators of adequate nutrition of adolescents; aware the participants on the specific interventions to be adopted to counter unhealthy food habits among adolescents; and promote focus on healthy food habits and life style among adolescents. Forty participants attended the workshop.
  • Three Sensitization Programmes on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 were organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from18-19 November, 2015; 23-24 November, 2015 and 26-27 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the participants about salient features of POCSO Act, 2012; sensitize the participants about the sexual offences being committed against children and consequent trauma faced by them; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act; enable them to understand and contextualize the rights of children; orient them about different support and rehabilitation services available for victims of sexual offences under POCSO Act & Rules 2012; and discuss about difficulties/problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required in solving these problems. In all, one hundred &seventeen participants attended these programmes.
  • Workshop on Critical Issues in Dealing with Children in Need of Care and Protection for Social Workers, Counsellors and Child Welfare Officers was organised by Headquarters from 19-20 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: know the present status of Juvenile Justice and ICPS in the States; analyse the relevance and utilization of knowledge gained in previous programmes in their work situations; share experiences and challenges faced by them; and come out with effective strategies for implementation of JJ Act/ICPS. Thirty Nine participants attended the workshop.
  • Awareness Generation Camp on Child Rights and Protection for School Children was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 20 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the problems and challenges faced by children to derive specific issues of child rights and protection to be focused; and generate awareness among children on provisions of CRC and national initiatives for child rights and child protection including various legal instruments and services for child protection. Fifty one participants attended the camp.

  • Orientation Workshop for Chairpersons and Members of CWCs on child protection was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 26-27 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the chairperson/ members of CWCs to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 and its Amendment Act, 2006 vis-à-vis ICPS; discuss the role and responsibilities of the chairperson/members of CWCs for effective implementation of the Act; and facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Twenty one participants attended the workshop.
  • Regional Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for Medical Professionals was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 26-27 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the salient features of POCSO Act, 2012 and role and responsibilities of Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents in implementation of the Act; discuss with them medical and forensic services in cases of child victims of sexual offences and to protect child rights; and discuss about the problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required in cases of sexual offences against children. Seven participants attended the workshop.
  • Advocacy Workshop on Child Mental Health for School Principals/Teachers and Parents was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 27 November, 2015 with the main objectives to: understand the importance of mental health needs of children; develop positive mental health attitudes, values and beliefs which facilitate their functioning with children; identify the learning and behavioral problems among children; and promote counseling services for children in schools.Seventy one participants attended the workshop.
  • Orientation Course on Project Formulation, Management and Sustainability of Programmes related to Women/Girls was organised by Headquarters from 30 November-04 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: familiarize the participants on policy and programmes for women and children; discuss the various schemes relating to women and girls including grant-in-aid to NGOs; and impart knowledge about project formulation, management methods, sustainability, documents, MIS etc. Twenty one participants attended the course.
  • Vertical Training Programme of Block Level ICDS Functionaries on ECCE was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati on 30 November-01 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the capacity of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as a master trainer for providing continuing education on ECCE to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of all ICDS functionaries at project level for quality improvement in ECCE services; and work jointly and formulate action plan at project level for quality improvement of delivery of ECCE service. Forty participants attended the training programme.
  • Skill Training on Community Mobilisation, Advocacy, Awareness and IEC Campaign on the issues relating to Child Development was organised by Regional Centre Indore from 30 November-04 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants to the concept and importance of community mobilization, participation; advocacy, awareness and IEC campaign; improve skills of the participants in methods and techniques of motivating and mobilizing community for awareness generation & IEC campaign; and enable the participants to elicit community participation, awareness and campaign for implementing ICDS programme effectively. Sixteen participants attended the training.

Regular Training Programmes

  • Orientation Training on POCSO Act, 2012 for School Principals and Teachers was organised by Headquarters from 1-2 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about the sexual offences committed against children and provision under POCSO Act, 2012; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act to protect child rights; and discuss the problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required for protection of victims and sexual violence and child witness of sexual offences. Twenty nine participants attended the training programme.
  • Sensitization Programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 1-2 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the participants about salient features of POCSO Act, 2012; sensitize the participants about the sexual offences being committed against children and consequent trauma faced by them; develop an understanding of their role in implementation of the Act; enable them to understand and contextualize the rights of children; orient them about different support and rehabilitation services available for victims of sexual offence under POCSO Act & Rules 2012; and discuss about difficulties/problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required in solving these problems. Forty participants attended the programme.
  • Skill Training on ECCE for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 1-3 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop a better understanding of early childhood years, ECD, ECCD, ECCE and linkages with one another among the trainees; make them understand the issues relating to ECCE in the light of national policy of ECCE and restructured ICDS; and enable the Instructors to impart effective training on ECCE and guide AWWs and Supervisors for proper delivery of ECCE programme to ensure optimum early childhood development in children. Nineteen participants attended the training programme.
  • Sensitization Workshop on Japanese Encephalitis/Acute Encephalitis Syndrome for Master Trainers of ICDS was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-4 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss major causes, signs and symptoms, prevention and management of JE/AEAS; prepare action plans and micro planning procedures or combating JE/AES at various levels; orient them about the Sneha Shivir, Nutrition Counselling and Child Care Sessions; discuss roles and responsibilities of various ICDS functionaries in prevention of JE/AES through Senha Shivir and other supportive activities; and orient the trainers about planning process of advocacy campaign for social and behavior change. Seventeen participants attended the workshop.
  • Workshop on POCSO Act for District Child Protection Officers (DCPOs) was organized by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Indore from 2-4 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss sexual offences committed against children and support for child victims under POCSO Act, 2012; develop an understanding about the role of DCPOs in supporting implementation of the Act; and discuss the challenges in the implementation of the Act and skills required in solving problems, in situations related to child sexual abuse. Forty participants attended the workshop.
  • Workshop for Police Officers on Critical Issues in Dealing with Victims of Child Sexual Abuse was organised by Headquarters from 3-4 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: review the handling of cases registered under POCSO Act, 2012; discuss problems in filed cases under POCSO Act, 2012 and evolving solutions thereafter; and strategies for effective coordination between police and other agencies implementing POCSO Act, 2012. Twenty seven participants attended the workshop.
  • One day Sensitization Programme on Misuse of Social Media Networking for School Children was organized by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 4 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise the participants about advantages and disadvantages of social media networking; discuss the legal provisions related to information technology; and suggest ways for minimizing adverse effects of social media networking. Ninety four participants attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Training Programme for Social Workers & Counsellors of ICPS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 7-11 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop understanding on various issues concerning to children in need of care and protection and in conflict with law; the existing juvenile justice system and the prevailing laws concerning children; orient about the features of ICPS, its components and role of various stakeholders under the JJ system and their inter-linkages;discuss the role of social workers in implementation of ICPS in the district; evolve strategy for networking convergence and coordination mechanisms under ICPS; build capacities to develop and implement child protection plan at district level; and develop competencies to carry out the responsibilities as social workers. Seventeen participants attended the training programme.

  • Awareness Camp on POCSO Act, 2012 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 9 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: apprise the participants of the salient features of the ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences’ (POCSO) Act and its Rules 2012; orient them about the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in implementing the Act; and create awareness among the masses about the POCSO Act, 2012 through NGOs. Thirty four participants attended the camp.
  • Orientation Programme on Research Methodology and Statistical Analysis in Social Sciences for Academicians, Research Scholars and Research Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 14-16 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient participants on latest trends in use of research methodology and statistical analysis in social sciences; enhance their knowledge and skills on different components of research methodology; and sharpen their understanding on appropriate use of statistical tools and techniques. Fifty Eight participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Programme on Child Rights and Protection for Social Workers and Counselors of DCPUs was organised by Regional Centre, Bengaluru from 14-18 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on issues relating to child care, protection and child rights; orient them on the managing trends in child care and protection including institutional and non-institutional services; discuss the constitutional provisions, programmes and services for children under various schemes of the Government; enhance the skills of participants in working with children; discuss the strategies and challenges in implementing the ICPS scheme at the DCPU level. Forty participants attended the programme.
  • Orientation Course for DPOs and Officials of NHM on Prevention of Malnutrition & Mortality among Women and Children of High Burden Districts was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati from 14-18 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: enable the Government Officials to develop a clear understanding about the issues of infant/ child and maternal malnutrition, and mortality; help them to appreciate the association between malnutrition and maternal and child morbidity and mortality; and enable the participants to draw up plans for identification and intervention programme for areas with higher incidences of malnutrition and mortality. Twenty four participants attended the course.
  • Sensitization Programme on Holistic Development of Adolescent Girls and Family Life Education for Functionaries of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 15-17 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: develop an understanding on the issues relating to adolescent health and family life education; discuss the existing strategies on adolescent health and development;enable the participants to develop skills for effective communication; and facilitate the participants to develop holistic programmes/ project proposals for adolescent development. Thirty eight participants attended the programme.
  • Regional Workshop on POCSO Act, 2012 for Medical Professionals was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 16-17 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss the salient features of POCSO Act, 2012 and roles and responsibilities of Medical Officers and Medical Superintendents in implementation of the Act; discuss with them medical anf forensic services in cases of child victims of sexual offences and to protect child rights; and discuss about the problems encountered in the implementation of the Act and skills required in handling cases of sexual offences against children. Fourteen participants attended the workshop.

  • Workshop on Child Rights and Protection for the Chairpersons/ Members of Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) was organized by Headquarters from 17-18 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: discuss about child rights and legislations for care & protection of children; share information about the ICPS machinery, including CWC and their role and responsibilities; discuss about ways and means of rehabilitation and social reintegration of children within family/society in reference to Individual Child Care Plans. Eighteen participants attended the training programme.
  • Orientation Course for Statistical Assistants on MIS in ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 21-23 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: orient the participants on the revised MIS in ICDS; acquaint them of their role in the monitoring of achievements and goals; and equip them with skills in data management and analysis. Nineteen participants attended the orientation course.
  • Awareness Camp on Life Skills Education for Parents and Adolescents was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 21 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: sensitize the participants about growing problems and challenges of adolescent girls; orient parents about coping up with problems of adolescent girls and their management; and acquaint participants with Life Skill Education for holistic development. Fifty three participants attended the camp.
  • Workshop on Critical Issues in Dealing with Children in Need of Care and Protection for Superintendents and Care Givers was organised by Headquarters from 22-23 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: share the present status of child protection under Juvenile Justice System and ICPS in the States; discuss the experiences in providing care & protection to children and share challenges at Child Care Institution (CCI) level; and come out with effective strategies for enhancing child care and protection services under revised ICPS. Fifteen participants attended the workshop.
  • Skill Training Programme on Assessment of Child Learning Outcomes for ICDS Functionaries was organised by Headquarters from 28-30 December, 2015 with the main objectives to: appraise the ICDS functionaries to the concept of child learning outcomes; make them understand the importance of adequate child learning outcome for later learning and development; help them to visualize the link between the quality of ECE programme and child learning outcome; and develop the skill of ICDS functionaries for assessing children’s learning. Twenty two participants attended the training programme.
