Important Activities for the year 2010

 

January 2010

  • Two Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Training Technology were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Lucknow from 4-8 January 2010 respectively with the objectives to: build up their skills in planning and organising quality training programmes; apprise them about the concept and stages of training cycle; familiarise them with various training approaches and methods; and equip them to select, prepare and use different training materials effectively.  In all forty-five participants attended the training.

  • Regional Training and Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 4-6 January, 2010 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants about Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS); sensitise and orient them to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006; orient them about the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of ICPS and Juvenile Justice Act; discuss the role of voluntary agencies and community in ICPS and Juvenile Justice Act; and discuss the procedures for speedy disposal of case under Juvenile Justice Act. Forty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised  by Regional Centre, Indore from 4 January – 3 February 2010 with the objectives to: orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarise them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and  management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various  levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. Twenty-eight participants are attending the course.

  • Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on New WHO Child Growth Standards  in ICDS was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 6-8 January, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance understanding of participants on factors determining growth and development (nutrition environment and health care); orient them about the new WHO child growth standards; impart skills on assessment interpretation and counseling for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. Forty-two participants attended the training programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Violence Against Women for Functionaries of Development Programmes was organised by Headquarters from 11-14 January, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on the concept of violence; types of violence and gender-based violence; provide them an overview of instruments to eliminate discrimination against women; discuss existing legislations to prevent/protect women against violence; and apprise them of existing support services for women in distress. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training Programme on ECCD for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 11-15 January, 2010  with the objectives to: orient the participants to the concept and significance of ECCD; enable the participants to develop better understanding of various critical issues related to survival, growth and development of children; help participants acquire skills for enhancing early development; discuss the existing community resources for promoting early childhood care and development; and enable the participants to plan and prepare need based integrated programme for all round development of children. Thirteen  participants attended the training.

  • Two Orientation Training on Child Rights and Child Protection for Superintendents of Children’s Homes/ Probation Officers/ Welfare Officers/ VOs were organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati and Regional Centre, Bangalore from 18-22 January, 2010 respectively with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms. In all, fifty-five participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Prevention of Micronutrient Malnutrition was organised by Headquarters from 18-22 January, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the magnitude of the problem of micronutrient malnutrition; create awareness about the policies and programmes for the control of micronutrient deficiencies; highlight causes and consequences of micronutrient malnutrition; and evolve strategies for prevention and management of micronutrient malnutrition. Fourteen participants attended the course.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 18-22 January, 2010 with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; provide a forum for sharing experiences; apprise them on the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the area of early childhood care and development; and sharpen the skills in communication, counselling and the management. Twenty-four participants attended the course.

  • Workshop for Parents on Identification and Management of Behaviour Problems of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 18 January, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the causal links of behaviour problems in children and the need for assessment; sensitise them to the broad strategies of intervention; and discuss their role in helping their child with behaviour problems. Sixteen parents attended the workshop.

  • Gender Sensitisation Training Programme for Law Enforcement Agencies was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 19-20 January 2010 with the objectives to: enable participants to develop a clear perspective on gender issues; sensitise them towards women’s development and empowerment; equip them with appropriate skills necessary for developing alternate approaches regarding victims and perpetrators. Forty-eight participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Counselling for Counsellors of Family Counselling Centres was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 20-22 January, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness about problems faced by women in distress; equip them with techniques of counselling; and orient them to alternative approaches to counselling. Twenty-nine participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention and Early Detection of Childhood Disabilities was organised by Headquarters from 20-22 January, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the importance of prevention and early detection of childhood disabilities; orient them to the strategies for prevention and early detection of childhood disabilities; and enhance their ability to screen children with development delays and disabilities at the community level. Nineteen participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training Programme on Health and Nutrition Issues Affecting Women Representatives of NGOs was organised by Headquarters from 1-5 February, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to fundamental concepts in nutrition and health care of women; create awareness on the various issues affecting health and nutrition of women; acquaint them with the policies and programmes related to health and nutrition of women; build their capacity with necessary skills and techniques in nutrition and health education; as also develop their skills in gender analysis of programmes related to health and nutrition of women. Twenty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Awareness Generation Camp for Volunteers of NGOs on Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Headquarters from 2-3 February, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness among the participants about the provisions under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; familiarise them about the roles and responsibilities of Protection Officers and Service Providers; and develop strategies for addressing the issues related to domestic violence. Thirty-two participants attended the camp.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Effective Implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 2-3 February, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge base of key stakeholders/implementing agencies for effective functioning of the Act; build capacity for better coordination; and understanding on the need for inter-agency response system for the effective implementation of the PWDVA. Forty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop on Care and Protection of Women and Children in Disaster Situations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 3-5 February, 2010 with the objectives to: discuss the nature and extent of problems encountered by women and children during natural and man – made disasters; analyse the existing mechanisms for care and protection of women and children during disasters; and evolve strategies for care and protection of women and children during disasters. Sixty-eight participants attended the workshop.          

  • Orientation Training for State / District Programme Officers and Deputy Directors Dealing with ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 8-10 February, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new  initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by Government of India for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on strengthening quality of ICDS programme. Twenty-one participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations and Government Officials on Women’s Empowerment was organised by Headquarters from 8-11 February, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitise the participants on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of women; and provide insight on formulation of  gender sensitive projects. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Community Mobilisation and Participation was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 8-12 February, 2010 with the objectives to: develop understanding of the concepts and principles of community mobilisation and participation; develop skills of trainers in eliciting community participation and participatory communication techniques; and equip them with skills to impart training to Supervisors and AWWs in the area of community participation. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

  • Training on Fund Raising Techniques and Resource Management for VOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 9-12 February 2010 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants to fund raising know-how and techniques; impart knowledge on need for developing internal controls and accounting systems for effective utilization and management of funds; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Twenty-one participants attended the training.

  • Parent Education Workshop on “Role of Parents in Academic/Scholastic Achievement and Holistic Development of Children” was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 12 February 2010 with the objectives to: create an understanding among the parents about the needs of children; and facilitate parents towards holistic development of children in general and for their better academic achievement in particular. Fifty-three parents attended the workshop.

  • One National and Four Regional Consultations on Evolving an Efficient Grant Management System towards Improving GO-NGO Cooperation in WCD Schemes were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Bangalore, Guwahati, Lucknow and Indore respectively from 15-16 February 2010 with the objectives to:  review the existing pattern, process and procedure of grant-in-aid under different schemes; identify the complexities and challenges of disbursal of grant-in-aid experienced by VOs and the Government agencies; bring about transparency and accountability at various levels; and suggest remedial measures for evolving an efficient Grant Management System to achieve improved GO-NGO cooperation for providing better services to the community. In all three hundred and forty one participants attended these Consultations.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Supportive Interventions for Children with Learning and Behaviour Problems for Principals and Teachers of Primary Schools was organised by Headquarters from 15-17 February, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to various learning problems in children and their causal associates; acquaint them with special interventions to bridge deficit in academic skills; familiarise them with the intervention measures to nurture emotional well being of children with  learning problems; and apprise them with strategies of organising supportive services for children in the school. Forty-three participants attended the programme.

  • Three Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised, one each by Regional Centre, Guwahati and Regional Centre, Indore from 15-19, February 2010 and one by the Headquarters from 22-26, February 2010 respectively with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; provide a forum for sharing experiences; apprise them on the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the area of early childhood care and development; and sharpen the skills in communication, counselling and the management. In all sixty-five participants attended the courses.

  • Three Orientation Training on Child Rights and Child Protection for Superintendents of Children’s Homes/ Probation Officers/ Welfare Officers/ VOs were organised, one by Regional Centre, Indore from 15-19 February, 2010 and two by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 15-19 February and 22-26, February 2010 respectively with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms. In all, sixty three participants attended these training programmes.

  • Orientation Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for the Counsellors Providing Services to Women in Distress was organised by Headquarters from 16-19 February, 2010. The main objectives of the course were to sensitise the participants about women empowerment and gender issues, create awareness about identification of problems of women and diagnosing/understanding their problems;  familiarise them about existing programmes  and support services for women in distress, develop communication negotiation and counselling skills; orient them to counselling methods, types, techniques and process involved therein, and promote networking among NGOs and institutions providing support services to women in distress. Twenty-three participants attended the training.

  • Consultation on Juvenile Justice Care & Protection of Children Amendment Act 2006 and ICPS was organised  by Headquarters from 18-19 February, 2010 with the  objectives to: review the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice Amendment Act 2006 by States/UTs; discuss the roles and  responsibilities of the members of CWC; highlight the importance of non-Institutional services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social reintegration of children; identify the obstacles/difficulties in carrying out their roles and responsibilities; and develop State Specific Action Plan for implementation. Forty participants attended the programme.

  • Regional Training Programme on Child Rights for PRI Functionaries (in collaboration with NCPCR) was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from       22-24, February 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the rights of children and its protection; orient them to their roles in protecting rights of children; and evolve mechanisms for monitoring child rights by Panchayats. Forty-nine participants attended the training.

  • Training Programme on Evolving Sustainable Development Programme for Street and Working Children for Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 22-26 February, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants to the importance of evolving sustainable development programme for street and working children; facilitate the participants to design such programmes taking into consideration a holistic view on the issue; and work out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a programme.Thirty-two participants are attending the training.

  • Orientation Workshop on Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from   23-25 February, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants to the conceptual framework of ECCD; orient them on key care behaviors; and facilitate them to incorporate key care practices in the existing syllabi for strengthening the ECCD component. Twenty-two participants attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Programme on Issues relating to Child Rights and Protection for School Principals was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 24-25 February 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms.  Sixty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Senior Welfare Officers of Special Juvenile Police Unit on Issues Related to Child Protection and Operating Procedures of SJPUs (in collaboration with Police Department of Karnataka) is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 25-27 February, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants  about the situational analysis of children; orient them to child rights and child protection; create awareness on Juvenile Justice Act, JJ System and legislations pertaining to child protection; and familiarise them with Operating Procedures of SJPUs.  Twenty-four participants are attending the training.

  • Two Training of Trainers on New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 1-3 March, 2010 and 9-11 March, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance understanding of participants on factors determining growth and development (nutrition environment and health care); orient them about the new WHO child growth standards; impart skills on assessment interpretation and counseling for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. In all ninety participants attended the training programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme for RPF Personnel to Prevent Harassment of Women in Trains was organised by Headquarters from 2-4 March, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance the sensitivity of RPF Personnel towards safety of women/girls passengers; make them aware about the type of harassment and violence faced by women/girls while traveling; impart knowledge and skills to prevent harassment and provide insights on the policies and legal safeguards to curb the problem; and evolve strategies to prevent harassment of women/girls in trains and ensure their safety and security. Forty RPF Personnel attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Training on Mainstreaming Gender Issues in Development Programmes was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-5 March , 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives about gender analysis and understand link between gender and development; to acquire necessary knowledge and skills of  gender planning; to workout strategies for gender mainstreaming; to discuss various ways and means of women's empowerment and to provide a forum for sharing the experiences of participants working on gender issues. Thirty participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training of Instructors of AWTCs/ MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 4-12 March, 2010 with the objectives to: The main objectives of the training were to: apprise the newly appointed Instructors of MLTCs about the ICDS programme and its services including issues related to early childhood care and development, child health, nutrition and education; build up their training and communication skills; and enable them to systematically plan and organise training programme for Supervisors and Instructors of AWTCs by familiarising them with training syllabi of concerned functionaries. Thirty-three participants attended the training.

  • Workshop for Parents of Child Care Centre was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 7th March, 2010 with the objectives to: create a forum for parents to discuss developmental issues of pre-school   children; and facilitate parents with supportive strategies to address challenges of growing up. Two- fifty six parents attended the workshop.

  • Training on Mobilisation and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 8-12 March, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants on the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation; enable them to manage their financial matters and funds; and provide information on legal framework for voluntary organizations. Twenty-two participants attended the course.

  • Two Orientation Training on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation was organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Guwahati from 8 -12 March, 2010 &15-19 March, 2010 respectively with the objectives to: with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organisation, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations. In all Fifty-six participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training of State Programme Officers/DPOs and Deputy directors dealing with ICDS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 9-11 March, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new  initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by Government of India for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on strengthening quality of ICDS programme. Seven participants attended the training.

  • Two Sensitisation Programme for Police Officials on Juvenile Justice Act 2006 and ICPS was organised by Headquarters from 10-12 at Bhubaneshwar & 22-24 March 2010 at Dimapur with the objectives to: sensitise and orient police officers to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006; create clarity and understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the Act; sensitise them to deal with children in conflict with law softly and sensitively; and discuss the procedures for speedy disposal of case under Juvenile Justice Act. In all One hundred - eight participants attended the programme.

  • Vertical Training Programme of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme was organised by Headquarters from 15-19 March 2010 with the objectives to: enhance skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as master trainers for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of ICDS functionaries for quality improvement in ICDS services; and formulate joint action plan for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. Thirty-seven participants attended the programme.

  • Refresher Course for Instructors of MLTCs was organised by Headquarters from 15-19 March, 2010 with the objectives to: assess training needs of Instructors; provide them a forum for sharing of experiences; apprise them about recent developments and trends in ICDS; sharpen their communication, supervisory and training skills; and update their knowledge in adopting systematic approach to training. Eight participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Course on Awareness Building for Senior Representatives of Voluntary Organisations on Right to Information (RTI) Act. was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 16-17 March, 2010 with the objectives to: with the objectives to: enable participants to understand various aspects of the RTI Act; acquaint them with the procedure and process of seeking information from public offices; and enable them to disseminate information on RTI to the larger community. Thirty-one participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Course on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Police Officers was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 16-18 March, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness about the magnitude of the problems of trafficking; discuss concept, trends and dimensions of trafficking in India; familiarise them with the rescue operations, post rescue care and rehabilitation process; communication and counselling strategies for survivors and critically analyse and evolve the role of Non-Government Organisations in prevention of trafficking. Forty-one participants attended the course.

  • Regional Training Programme on Child Rights for Panchayat Functionaries, concerned Government Officials and NGOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 17-19 March, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the conceptual framework of child rights and the role of PRI functionaries on ensuring rights of the child; enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms for monitoring child rights by Zila Parishads, Block and Gram Panchayats. Fifty-one participants attended the training.

Twenty-four police officers attended the workshop.

  • Gender Sensitisation Workshop for Police Officials of Raichur and Gulburga Districts in Karnataka (in Collaboration with Karnataka State Police) was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 5 - 7 April, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness about gender inequality and violence against women prevalent in the society and the need to deal with it sensitively; and impart knowledge on the critical issues and legislations concerning women and children. Twenty police officers attended the workshop.

  • Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 5-8 April, 2010 with the objectives to: develop professional skills among the participants for making programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; apprise them of techniques of good governance; and enhance their capabilities to tackle the problems arising because of lack of good governance. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 5-10 April, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the optimal infant and young child feeding practices; create awareness about the policies, programmes and plans for health and nutrition of women and children; highlight fundamental factors affecting feeding practices for infants and young children; enhance counselling skills on infants and young child feeding practices; and evolve strategies to protect, promote and support optimal infant and young child feeding practices. Twenty-five participants attended the training.

  • Three Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Northern Regional Centre (Lucknow), Southern Regional Centre( Bangalore) and North Eastern Regional Centre (Guwahati) from 5 April – 5 May, 2010 , 12 April – 11 May, 2010 and 22 April-21 May, 2010 respectively with the objectives to orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme, its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarise them with their role and responsibilities vis-à-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS projects. In all eighty-nine participants are attending these courses.

  • Gender Sensitisation Training Programme for Law Enforcement Agencies was organised by Western Regional Centre, Indore from 6 - 7 April, 2010 with the objectives to: enable participants to develop a clear perspective on gender issues; sensitise them towards women’s development and empowerment; equip them with appropriate skills necessary for developing alternate approaches regarding victims and perpetrators. Fifty-two participants attended the training.

  • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for the Counsellors of Women Helplines was organised by Headquarters from 6 - 9 April, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about women empowerment and gender based violence; create awareness about identification of problems faced by women; familiarise the participants about existing programmes and support services for distressed women; discuss principles and guidelines for counselling; develop communication, negotiation and counselling skills/techniques; and promote networking among NGOs and Institutions providing support services to women in distress. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS and Use of MCP Card was organised by Headquarters from 19-21 April, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance understanding of participants on factors determining growth and development (nutrition environment and health care); orient them about the new WHO child growth standards and MCP Card; and impart skills in assessment,  interpretation of growth curves and counselling of mothers using MCP Card effectively for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Vertical Training Programme of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme was organised by Headquarters from 19-23 April, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as master trainers for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of ICDS functionaries to  enhance the quality  of ICDS services; and formulate joint action plan for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. Thirty-seven participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Adolescent Health, Family Life Education and HIV/AIDS for Executives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow  from19 -23 April, 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop an understanding of the issues relating to adolescent health, family life education and HIV/AIDS; discuss the existing strategies for promotion of adolescent health and development; develop skills in communicating effectively with adolescents; and build the capacity of personnel of voluntary organisations for transacting family life education with adolescents. Twenty -six participants attended the course.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Effective Implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Headquarters at Bangalore in collaboration with Lawyers Collective, Delhi from 22-23 April, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge- base of key stakeholders/implementing agencies for effective functioning of the Act; build  their capacity for better coordination; and enhance their understanding on the need for inter-agency response system for the effective implementation of PWDVA. Forty-seven participants attended the programme. 

  • Training on Fund Raising Techniques and Resource Management for VOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 26-29 April, 2010 with the objectives to: with the objectives to: acquaint the participants to fund raising techniques; impart knowledge on need for developing internal controls and accounting systems for effective utilisation of funds and resources; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Twenty-seven participants are attending the training.

  • Orientation Training on Survival and Development of Girl Child is being  organised by Headquarters from 26-30 April, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness among the participants about prevailing situation of girl child in society; orient them on the various policies, programmes and legislations for survival and development of girl child; build their  capacities for empowerment of girl child; and create awareness on the role of civil society organisations in survival and development of girl child.  Twenty-five participants are attending the training.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Headquarters from 26-30 April, 2010 with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences to the participants; apprise them about the recent developments in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. Twenty-five participants are attending the course.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations and Government Officials on Women Empowerment is being  organised by Headquarters at Bangalore from 26-30 April, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitise the participants on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of women; and provide insight on formulation of  gender sensitive projects.   • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on IMNCI and Use of MCP Card was organised by Headquarters from 3 - 7 May, 2010 with the objectives to: build the knowledge of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs in management of neonatal and childhood illness in an integrated manner; familiarise them about the technique of assessment, classification and treatment of common childhood illness; and strengthen their counseling skills using MCP Card. Thirty participants attended the programme.

  • Training Programme on Community Micro Planning for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations Working for Underprivileged Sections was organised by Headquarters from 3 - 7 May, 2010 with the objectives to: expose the participants to the concept of community micro planning so as to evolve participatory development methodology to address the problems of women and children belonging to underprivileged sections of society; help them to evolve a module for integrated micro planning involving the community; and facilitate evolving a developmental action plan which comprises identifying and prioritising problems, strategies and options for dealing with the problems. Sixteen participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Voluntary Organisations on Prevention of Child Marriage was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 4 - 6 May, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness on consequences of child marriage on overall development of the girl child; discuss and analyse the existing constitutional and legal measures for prevention of child marriages and their implementation; analyse the situation and suggest strategies to prevent child marriages. Seventeen participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 4-7 May, 2010 with the objectives to: develop professional skills among the participants for making programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; apprise them of techniques of good governance; and enhance their capabilities to govern their organisation better. Twenty-three participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Formation of SHGs for Representatives of VOs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 10-14 May, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness about the concept, importance and dynamics of SHGs for women; equip them with skills in formation and management of SHGs and help them to understand their role as change agents in the community. Twenty-six participants attended the course.

  • Four Training Courses on Planning and Designing a Project were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centres Lucknow, Bangalore and Indore from 10 -14 May, 2010, 10-13 May, 2010, 17-21 May, 2010 and 18-21 May, 2010 respectively. The main objectives of these trainings were to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance the knowledge-base and skills of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation; working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and analyse pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals. In all, one hundred -thirteen participants attended the training.

  • Regional Workshop on Gender Budgeting for North Eastern Region was organised by Headquarters at Guwahati from 11-12 May, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on the concepts and the need for gender-based approach for budgeting; apprise them of its positive contributions to the economic and social development of the country; orient them to the tools of gender budgeting; and enable them to dovetail gender concepts in projects and programmes undertaken by them. Twenty-four participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Gender Equality in Governance was organised by Headquarters from 11-13 May, 2010 with the objectives to highlight role of women in leadership and decision making; sensitise the participants towards gender inequalities in governance; highlight the barriers to women’s participation in Governance; create awareness about gender-sensitive reforms in governance; and workout strategies for gender mainstreaming in governance. Sixteen participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Mobilisation and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 17-21 May 2010 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants on the techniques for mobilising and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation; enable them to manage their financial matters and funds; and provide information on legal framework for voluntary organisations. Twenty-one participants attended the training programme.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Headquarters from 17-21 May, 2010 with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; provide a forum for sharing experiences; apprise them on the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the area of early childhood care and development; and sharpen their skills in communication, counselling and the management. Twenty-eight participants attended the course.

  • Job Training Course for Supervisors is being organised by Regional Centre Guwahati from 17 May – 16 June, 2010 with the objectives to: train and orient the Supervisors to various components of the scheme of the ICDS; enable them understand their roles and responsibilities as well as those of other functionaries of the scheme; and enhance their skills necessary for supervision of programme implementation and general administration. Twenty-nine participants are attending the course.

  • Training on Developing Communication and Case Intervention Skills for Functionaries of Child/Women Helplines by Regional Centre Guwahati from 18-21 May, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants on counselling, communication and case intervention skills; and equip them with effective, communication and case intervention skills to deal with women in distress.  Nineteen participants attended the training.

  • Workshop for School Teachers on Identification and Management of Behaviour Problems in Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 19 May 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness on the needs of children; and provide insights about the psychological problems which may hamper the learning and behaviour in early childhood. Twenty-three participants attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Training on Issues Relating to Child Rights and Protection for School Principals by Regional Centre Guwahati from 24-25 May, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms. Thirty-nine participants attended the training.

  • Training of NIPCCD Trainers on Strategic Applications of Social and Behavior Change Communication was organised by Headquarters from     24-26 May 2010  with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge of the NIPCCD  trainers on the principles of communication for development (C4D) and setting of communication objectives for ICDS; enhance understanding related to strategic shifts in C4D and the basic steps in conducting a perceptions study; explain and apply the C4D planning process for developing a strategic  communication; and enhance understanding of principles of monitoring and evaluation process to assess effectiveness of communication and application of the same to ICDS and ICPS. Twenty-two participants attended the training.

  • Regional Level Sensitisation Programme for Improving Sex Ratio was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Indore from 8-9 June, 2010 with the objectives to: analyse the regional causes of low sex ratio; discuss the steps taken by Governments and NGOs in the region to improve sex ratio; and to evolve region specific strategies for Improving Sex Ratio. Ten participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children)  Amendment Act 2006 (in collaboration with Police Academy) was organised by Headquarters at Chennai from 8-10 June, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise and orient police officers to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006 and ICPS; create clarity and understanding of their roles and responsibilities  in the implementation of the Act; sensitise them  to deal with children in conflict with law softly and sensitively; and facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Thirty participants attended the programme.

  • Training for Representatives of NGOs on Schemes and Programmes of Government for Women and Children was organized by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 14-18 June, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the existing constitutional provisions and rights of women and children; acquaint them with various policies, legislations, programmes and services for development of women and children; and sensitize the participants about their roles in implementation of the legislations, policies and programmes. Thirty-three participants attended the training

  • Training on Juvenile Justice System for Juvenile Welfare Officers (JWOs) of Delhi was organised by Headquarters from 14–15 June, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to develop an understanding of the Juvenile Justice System; facilitate them to identify and analyse the problems of children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law; and prepare them to effectively deal with the children in a child-friendly way. Thirty-six participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Programme on Prevention of Female Foeticide and Infanticide was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 15-17 June, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on issues of gender violence with special reference to female foeticide and infanticide; sensitize them to the magnitude of the problem and its overall impact on status of women, discuss the existing policies and legislation to curb female foeticide and infanticide; and identify strategies for strengthening the existing mechanism to curb these practices. Twenty participants attended the programme.  

  • Workshop for the Parents on Identification & Management of Behaviour Problems among Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru on 16 June, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the causal links of behaviour problems in children and the need for assessment; sensitise them to the broad strategies of intervention; and discuss their role in helping their child with behaviour problems. Twenty-five parents attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Child Marriages in India for Prohibition Officers and for NGOs was organised by Headquarters from 16 – 18 June, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness on consequences of child marriage on overall development of the girl child; discuss and analyse the existing constitutional and legal measures for prevention of child marriages and their implementation; analyse the situation and suggest strategies to prevent child marriages. Twenty participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Trainers on Life Skill Education (LSE) of Tribal Adolescent Girls was organised by Regional Centre Indore from 21-24 June,2010 with the objectives to: sensitise participants about situation of tribal adolescent girls especially related to the health and nutrition issues; orient them about need and importance of life skills education; equip them with technical skills in imparting life skills education; and develop a plan of action to carry forward training module on life skills education to the grassroots levels. Forty-three participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Adolescent Health and HIV/AIDS was organised by Headquarters from 21-25 June, 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop an understanding of the issues relating to adolescent health, family, life education and HIV/AIDS; discuss the existing strategies for promotion of adolescent health and development; develop skills in communicating effectively with adolescents; and build the capacity of personnel of voluntary organizations for transacting family life education with adolescents. Twenty-four participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Programme on Effective Management of ECCE for Senior Personnel of Social Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru from 21-25 June, 2010 with the objective to: sensitise the participants to the needs of children; discuss the nature of services and its delivery; acquaint on the effective functioning of ECCE Centres in the context of present trend; orient them to the early childhood learning experiences; and apprise them about the minimum standards for ECCE Centres. Thirty participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training of Trainers of District Mobile Training Teams (DMTTs) was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 21-25 June, 2010 with the objectives to: apprise the newly appointed DMTT trainers about ICDS programme and its services: acquaint them in the areas of early childhood care and development, child health and nutrition; enable them to systematically plan and organise training programmes; and build up their communication and training skills. Twenty-eight participants attended the course.

  • Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Training Techniques was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 21- 25 June, 2010 with the objectives to: build up the skills of trainers of MLTCs/AWTCs in planning and organizing a training programme; apprise the trainers about the concept and stages of training cycle; familiarize the participants about various training approaches and methods; and equip the trainees to select, prepare and use different training materials effectively. Nineteen participants attended the programme.

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 21June -  July 20, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the CDPOs / ACDPOs to various components of ICDS Scheme; enable them to understand their own role, as well as the roles and responsibilities of other functionaries of the scheme; equip them with adequate knowledge and skills for providing the job training to peripheral workers of the scheme; and facilitate them to develop skills necessary for administration and management of the ICDS scheme. Thirty-one participants are attending the course.

  • Sensitization Programme on Right to Information Act, 2005 for Senior Officers of VOs & Public Information Officers was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 22-23 June, 2010 with the objectives to: enable participants to understand various aspects of the RTI Act; acquaint them with the procedure and process of seeking information from public offices; and enable them to disseminate information on RTI to the larger community. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.

In all fifty-five participants attended the training.

  • Two Orientation Training of Trainers of Gender Resource Centres of Delhi on Gender Based Violence were organised by Headquarters from 6-8 July, 2010 & 20 -22 July, 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives about gender based violence its causes, manifestations and consequences; discuss sexual violence and trafficking of women and girls; enable them to acquire necessary knowledge about laws relating to violence; workout strategies for combating gender based violence; discuss various ways and means of capacity building of violence victim and to provide a forum for sharing the experiences of participants working on gender based violence. In all fifty-five participants attended these programmes.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Police Personnel was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 7-9 July, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness about the magnitude of the problems of trafficking; discuss concept, trends and dimensions of trafficking in India; familiarise them with the rescue operations, post rescue care and rehabilitation process; communication and counselling strategies for survivors and critically analyse and evolve the role of Non-Government Organisations in prevention of trafficking. Sixteen participants attended the Programme.

  • Orientation Course on Micronutrients for Representatives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 7-9 July, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the magnitude of the problem of micronutrient malnutrition; create awareness about the policies and programmes for the control of micronutrient deficiencies; highlight causes and consequences of micronutrient malnutrition; and evolve strategies for prevention and management of micronutrient malnutrition. Twenty-five participants attended the course.

  • Regional Consultation Meet on ICPS for Senior Government Officials/Nodal Officers was organised by Headquarters on 9th July, 2010 with the objectives to: review the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 and its Rules 2007; and orient the participants on the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) .Thirty-four participants attended the course.

  • Three Vertical Training Programmes of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme were organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 12-16 July, 2010 and Headquarters & Regional Centre, Bangaluru from 19-23 July, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as master trainers for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of ICDS functionaries to  enhance the quality  of ICDS services; and formulate joint action plan for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. In all One hundred four participants attended these programmes.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Child Marriage was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru from 14-16 July, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness on consequences of child marriage on overall development of the girl child; discuss and analyse the existing constitutional and legal measures for prevention of child marriages and their implementation; analyse the situation and suggest strategies to prevent child marriages. Forty-three participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop on Parent Education was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati on 19 July, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the parents about the needs of adolescents; and help parents to deal with the physical, emotional and mental changes during adolescence for optimum development. One hundred and thirty-two parents attended the meeting.

  • Training on Mobilisation and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 19-23 July, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants on the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation; enable them to manage their financial matters and funds; and provide information on legal framework for voluntary organisations. Twenty participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Prevention of Micronutrient Malnutrition was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 20-22 July, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the Instructors of MLTCs/AWTCs towards the issue of micronutrient deficiency; enhance their knowledge on types, functions, sources, causes, symptoms and management of micronutrient deficiency disorders; and develop their skill to effectively deal with the topics of Micronutrient Malnutrition in the training programmes of AWWs and Supervisors. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Juvenile Justice System for Juvenile Welfare Officers (JWOs) of Delhi was organised by Headquarters from 22-23 July, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to develop an understanding of the Juvenile Justice System; facilitate them to identify and analyse the problems of children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law; and prepare them to effectively deal with the children in a child-friendly way. Twenty-three attended the training.

  • Orientation Course for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations on Monitoring and Evaluation of Developmental Programmes on Women and Children is being organised by Headquarters from 26-30 July, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the functionaries of voluntary organisations to the fundamental concepts of monitoring and evaluation; and build the capacity of functionaries of voluntary organisations with regard to techniques and methods of monitoring and evaluation of developmental programmes for women and children. Twenty-four participants are attending the course.

The main objectives of the course were to: create awareness among participants about legal and constitutional rights; create awareness about legal provisions and safeguards for protection of women; provide information about legal machineries dealing with care, protection and justice; and facilitate participants to develop action plan for addressing women issues/rights for justice. Twenty-three participants are attending the course.

  • Training on the Scheme of UJJAWALA for Grant Receiving NGO’s was organised by Headquarters from 2 -6 August, 2010 with the objectives to:  orient the participants about the concept of UJJAWALA Scheme; orient them towards prevention, rescue, rehabilitation and re-integration of victims of trafficking; enhance their skills in project preparation; and discuss the monitoring and networking systems within the framework of national and State-level machinery. Thirty-one participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on IYCF was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru 2-6 August, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the optimal infant and young child feeding practices; create awareness about the policies, programmes and plans for health and nutrition of women and children; highlight fundamental factors affecting feeding practices for infants and young children; enhance counselling skills on infants and young child feeding practices; and evolve strategies to protect, promote and support optimal infant and young child feeding practices. Thirty-four participants attended the training. Another Orientation Training on Promotion of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for the Representatives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 10-12 August, 2010 which was attended by Twenty-one participants.

  • Training of Trainers for Circle Organisers of Village Defence Organisations under Assam Police was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati from 4 – 6, August, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the situation of women and children in Assam with particular reference to crimes against women and children and the factors responsible for these; acquaint them with the various relevant legislations towards protection and rights of women and children; enable them to understand their role in prevention of these social evils; and enable the them to act as trainers for sensitising the functionaries of Village Defence Organisation on these issues. Twenty-five participants attended the training.

  • Three Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised during this month.  Out of these three courses, one was organized by Regional Centre, Indore from 2-6 August, 2010 and remaining two courses are being organized simultaneously from 23-27 August, 2010 at Regional Centre Bangalore and Lucknow. The main objectives of these courses are to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial skills. In all sixty participants are attending these courses.

  • Sensitisation Programme for School Principals and Teachers on Child Mental Health was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 5-6 August, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise school principals and teachers about learning problems (dyslexia, dysgraphia etc.) and behavioural problems of children; and to enable the principals to develop a strategy for providing or seeking timely intervention from specialised agencies. Twenty participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Nutritional Care of Women and Children with HIV/AIDS for Representatives of Voluntary Organisations of Southern States was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru 9-11 August, 2010 with the objectives to: appraise the participants on the situation of HIV/AIDS in women and Children; orient them about the vital role of nutrition in HIV/AIDS; provide an insight on the nutritional care and support of Pregnant/Lactating Women/Adolescent Girls Infected with HIV/AIDS; and sensitise them on Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV vis-a-vis the Nutritional Care of Infected Infants and Young Children. Forty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Planning and Designing a Project was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 9 -12 August, 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance the knowledge-base and skills of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation; working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and analyse pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals.  Fifty-two participants attended the training.

  • Training on Fund Raising Techniques and Resource Management for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 10-13 August, 2010 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants to fund raising techniques; impart knowledge on need for developing internal controls and accounting systems for effective utilisation of funds and resources; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Twenty-five participants attended the training.

  • Sensitization Programme on Right to Information Act, 2005 for Senior Officers of VOs & Public Information Officers was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 12-13 August, 2010 with the objectives to: enable participants to understand various aspects of the RTI Act; acquaint them with the procedure and process of seeking information from public offices; and enable them to disseminate information on RTI to the larger community. Forty-one participants attended the programme.

  • Consultation on Child Nutrition and Maternity Entitlements for National Food Security Bill was organised by Headquarters on 13 August, 2010 with the objectives to: deliberate on issues relating to Child Nutrition and Maternity Entitlements for National Food Security Bill. Thirty-six participants attended the consultation.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations and Government Officials on Women’s Empowerment  was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 August, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitize them on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; provide information on availability of resources for women’s programmes; discuss the role of voluntary organizations in the empowerment of women; and orient them in project formulation with gender sensitivity.  Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training on ECCD for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 August, 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop better understanding of various aspects of child development, particularly in the context of children between 0-6 years; sensitize them to develop and understand the concept of Early Childhood Care and Development and develop appropriate programmes; facilitate them to develop viable strategies to make qualitative assessment of Early Childhood Development programmes. Fourteen participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Identification and Prevention of Early Childhood Disabilities for Functionaries of NGOs & ICDS Trainers of Western Region was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 16-20 August, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about International Classification of Impairments, Disabilities and Handicaps (ICIDH) as defined by WHO; sensitise them about the need for recognizing  the impact of a disorder on functions and capacities of individuals; and develop basic skills in prevention of early childhood disabilities. Thirty-three participants attended the programme.    

  • Upgrading Counselling Skills of Counsellors Working for Women in Distress was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru from 16-20 August, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants to the needs and rights of women in distress; explore and evolve attitude, values and beliefs that facilitate working with women in distress; and upgrade the skills of counselling among the participants. Thirty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop for Parents on Identification and Management of Children with Scholastic Problems was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 18 August, 2010 with the objectives to: acquaint the Parents about the nature and magnitude of scholastic problems of children; and sensitize them Parents about their roles in providing a supportive environment to such children for better scholastic performances. Sixty-six participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Training on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 for Protection Officers and Service Providers was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 19-20 August, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge- base of key stakeholders/implementing agencies for effective functioning of the Act; build their capacity for better coordination; and enhance their understanding on the need for inter-agency response system for the effective implementation of PWDVA. Twenty-five participants attended the programme. 

  • Training of Trainers (ToT) on Juvenile Justice System and ICPS for Police Officers and Representatives of Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Headquarters at Guwahati from 23-27 August, 2010. The main objectives of the training are to : enable the participants to develop an understanding of the Juvenile Justice System; sensitise and orient them to the main features of Integrated Child Protection Scheme(ICPS) and their role and responsibilities in ICPS; and help them to administer the Training Manual on Juvenile System for Police Officials developed for the purpose and practice training sessions with the help of the Training Manual.  Thirty-five participants are attending the training.

  • Orientation Training on Child Rights and Child Protection for Superintendents of Children’s Homes is being organised by the Headquarters from 23-27 August, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms. Twenty participants attended the programme

  • Training–cum-Workshop on Developing Comprehensive Checklist for Effective Monitoring and Supervision of Anganwadis is being organised by Headquarters from 23-27 August, 2010 with the objectives to: apprise participants about the need, significance and use of Checklists as tools for monitoring and supervision in ICDS programme; make them aware about the existing practices of monitoring and supervision of anganwadis in ICDS; develop a comprehensive and user-friendly checklist for monitoring and supervision of ICDS programme; and enhance their skills in the use of checklists as well as session planning on monitoring and supervision of AWCs in the training syllabus for Supervisors/AWWs. Twenty-six participants are attending the programme.

  • Regional Consultation Meet on ICPS for Senior Government Officials/Nodal Officers was organised by Headquarters at Guwahati on 1st September, 2010 with the main objective to: create a safe and secure environment for the overall development of the children who are in need of care and protection as well as the children in conflict with law. Thirty-nine participants attended the consultation.

  • Three Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS and Use of MCP Card were organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru, Guwahati and Lucknow from 6-8 September, 13-17 September and 20-24 September, 2010 respectively  with the objectives to: enhance understanding of participants on factors determining growth and development (nutrition environment and health care); orient them about the new WHO child growth standards and MCP Card; and impart skills in assessment,  interpretation of growth curves and counselling of mothers using MCP Card effectively for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. In all eighty-four participants attended these training programmes.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 6 -10 September, 2010 with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences to the participants; apprise them about the recent developments in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills.   • Sensitization Training for PRI Functionaries and Autonomous Council Members on Child Rights and Protection was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 7-9  September,  2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the members of PRIs and Autonomous District Councils about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions;  create an understanding of the good child protection practices; and  make them aware about their role in child protection. Eighteen participants attended the training.

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru from 13 September – 12 October, 2010 with the objectives to orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme, its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarise them with their role and responsibilities vis-à-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS projects. Nineteen participants are attending the course.

  • Training on Combating Domestic and Gender Based Violence was organised by Headquarters from 13-17 September, 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives about gender based violence its causes, manifestations and consequences; discuss sexual violence and trafficking of women and girls; enable them to acquire knowledge about laws relating to violence; workout strategies for combating gender based violence; discuss various ways and means of capacity building of violence victim ; and provide a forum for sharing the experiences of participants working on gender based violence. Twenty-seven participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 13-17 September , 2010 with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organisation, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations.  Twenty-three participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training for Instructors of AWTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 13-21 September, 2010. The main objectives of the training were to: appraise the newly appointed Instructors of AWTCs about the ICDS Programme and its services and issues related to early childhood care and development including child health, nutrition and education; familiarize them with the training syllabi of Anganwadi workers; and build up their training and communication skills. Twenty-five Instructors attended the training.

  • Multi Stakeholder Public Private Partnership Workshop for Combating Trafficking of Women and Children was organised by Headquarters in collaboration with Department of Social Defence, Government of Tamil Nadu at Chennai from 14-15 September, 2010. The main objectives of the workshop were to: discuss and deliberate on Public Private Partnership for providing economic Rehabilitation of survivors of trafficking for as well as for prevention of trafficking through skill building and employment opportunities; create linkages and strengthen alliances between the corporate sector and NGO sector and government and lay foundation for a business coalition on anti-human trafficking initiatives through formation of a committee to carry forward the action plan evolved in the workshop. Seventy participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Right to Information Act 2005 for Senior Officers of VOs and Public Information Officers was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru from 15-16 September, 2010 with the objectives to: bring in greater clarity on RTI among the participants; ensure appreciation for RTI Act, 2005 and its mandate among the officials designated under it and also among the citizens; facilitate timely delivery of information by PIO’s; and  equip civil society and other stakeholders to be better informed. Thirty-six participants attended the programme

  • The sixth one year Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Counselling commenced on 15 September 2010 with the objectives to: explore and evolve attitudes, values and beliefs that facilitates work with children as mental health professionals;  acquire knowledge and understanding of theoretical constructs and socio-cultural perspectives in the context of counselling; develop skills to plan, provide and monitor-counselling interventions for children and child- related systems; and  develop skills of mobilizing resources and networking and collaborating with stakeholders.   Twenty students have been registered for the course.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru  from 20-21 September, 2010  with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on manifestation of gender based violence; discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women specially at work place; analyse the problems and work out strategies for prevention of sexual harassment of women at work place; and discuss existing mechanism/support services and provide suggestions for strengthening them. Thirty-six participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Gender Mainstreaming in Health and Nutrition Programmes was organised by Headquarters from 20-24 September, 2010 with the objectives to:  enable the participants to develop a clear perspective about gender analysis and its importance in health and nutrition programmes; make them understand the interrelationship between biological, psychological and social factors generating specific health and nutritional needs for women and men;  develop the skills for conducting gender diagnosis of existing health and nutrition programmes to provide skills for planning health and nutrition programmes/projects with gendered approach; and evolve an action plan to integrate gender perspectives in the ongoing health and nutrition programmes. Twenty-two participants attended the training.

  • Training on Fund Raising Techniques and Resource Management for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 4-7 October, 2010 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants to fund raising techniques; impart knowledge on need for developing internal controls and accounting systems for effective utilization of funds and resources; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Thirty-two participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Planning and Organisation of Community Education Sessions was organised by Headquarters from 4-8 October, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about overall concept & Significance of community education sessions; enhance the skills of instructors on planning & organisation of community education sessions on NHED; strengthening reporting Skills of AWWs/Supervisors; and provide information on updating/mending deficiencies of records & registers maintained by AWWs & Supervisors. Thirty-nine participants attended the training.

  • Workshop on Show- Casing different Models for Tracking Missing and Found Children was organised by Headquarters from 5-6 October, 2010 with the objectives to: review the existing models of CTS missing/found children websites and their strategy; deliberate the complexities and challenges in evolving a Child Tracking System; suggest measures to evolve CTS as a monitoring and reporting mechanism for child protection. Seventy participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme for School Principals and Teachers on Adolescent Health was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 5-7 October, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about physical and psychological changes and challenges of adolescents; apprise them to reproductive health issues and nutritional needs of adolescents; and familiarise them with their role in healthy development of adolescents in schools. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Awareness Generation Camp for Volunteers of NGOs on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act(PWDVA),2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 6-7 October, 2010 with the objectives to: create awareness among the participants about the provisions of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act; familiarise the participant about roles and responsibilities of Protection Officers and Service Providers; and help the participants in working out strategies for addressing the issues related to domestic violence. Fifty participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training on Infant and Young Child Feeding and Counselling for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from11-15 October, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the optimal infant and young child feeding practices; create awareness about the policies, programmes and plans for health and nutrition of women and children; highlight fundamental factors affecting feeding practices for infants and young children; enhance counselling skills on infants and young child feeding practices; and evolve strategies to protect, promote and support optimal infant and young child feeding practices. Thirty-six participants attended the training.

  • Two Consultations on Revision of the National Policy for Children, 1974 were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Guwahati on October 12, 2010 with the objectives to: review, collate and compile inputs received from stakeholders on revising the National Policy for Children; and identify the priority areas and finalised inputs of policy .In all One hundred thirty one participants attended the consultation.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Prevention of Micronutrient Malnutrition was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 12-14 October, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants towards the problem of micronutrient deficiency disorders; enrich their knowledge on different aspects of micronutrient deficiency disorders; and develop lesson plan for training of AWWs on prevention and management of micronutrient malnutrition. Twenty-seven participants attended the programme.

  • Two Vertical Training Programmes of Block Level ICDS Functionaries for Quality Improvement in ICDS Programme were organised by Regional Centre, Indore and Regional Centre, Bangalore from 18-22 October, 2010 with the objectives to: enhance skills of CDPOs and Supervisors to act as master trainers for providing continuing education to AWWs at project level; provide inputs to improve knowledge and skills of ICDS functionaries to  enhance the quality  of ICDS services; and formulate joint action plan for quality improvement of delivery of ICDS services. In all eighty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 18-22 October, 2010. The main objectives of the course were to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences to the participants; apprise them about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. Fourteen participants attended the course. Another Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 25-29 October, 2010. Twenty participants are attending the course.

  • Orientation Training on Community Based Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities for the functionaries of Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 25-28 October, 2010 with the objectives to:   impart knowledge about various types of disabilities; create awareness on various legal provisions; orient them about the community based rehabilitation models; and build capacity of Voluntary Organisations to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities. Eighteen participants are attending the training.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Strengthening Pre-School Education Component in ICDS is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 25-29 October, 2010 with the objectives to: strengthen the knowledge and understanding of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on importance of early years and need of ECCD; strengthen skills of participants in planning and organizing pre school education activities at AWC, as also for conducting early childhood stimulation and pre-school education activities. Twenty-two participants are attending the training.

Seventeen participants are attending the training.

  • Training of Trainers (ToT) on Juvenile Justice System and ICPS for Police Officers and Representatives of Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Headquarters at Indore from 25-29 October, 2010 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop an understanding of the Juvenile Justice System; sensitise and orient them to the main features of Integrated Child Protection Scheme(ICPS) and their role and responsibilities in ICPS; and help them to administer the Training Manual on Juvenile System for Police Officials developed for the purpose and practice training sessions with the help of the Training Manual.  Forty-five participants are attending the training.

  • Regional Consultation of the Members of Child Welfare Committee (CWCs) and Members of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) and Other Functionaries of Juvenile Justice Administration is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 26-27 October, 2010 with the objectives to: review the status of Juvenile Justice Amendment Act 2006 by States/UTs; discuss roles and responsibilities of the members of CWC; highlight  importance of non-institutional services under the Act; identify the obstacles/difficulties carrying out their (CWC) roles and responsibilities; and develop the State Specific Action Plan for implementation. Fifty-eight participants are attending the programme.

  • Orientation Training on Legislation on Adoption and Guardianship for the Functionaries of Child Care Institutions is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 26-29 October, 2010 with the objectives to: orient participants about the significance of family in development of child; make them aware of procedural aspects of adoption and guardianship; and apprise them about various schemes of assistance to Homes and provisions for adoption of children. Fourteen participants are attending the training.

Vatsalya Mela

  • Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government. of India organised ‘Vatsalya Mela’ from 14-19 November, 2010 at Delhi Haat, INA, New Delhi. The mela presented a combination of ideas, information activities, interaction, cultural programmes, thematic exhibition, display of services of states & products of NGOs & partners. The Officer and staff members of NIPCCD were assigned the various tasks, related to mela, particularly organisation of PSE activities; Adolescent Guidance Service Centre, Child Guidance Centre; Children Learning Competency Test (CLCT), Growth Monitoring of the Children as per the New WHO Growth Chart and Exhibition.  These activities were carried out for all five days from 9.30 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. The thematic exhibition was organised by NIPCCD.

 

Launching of SABLA

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls – SABLA on 19th November, 2010 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. NIPCCD coordinated the launching of SABLA Scheme. In addition NIPCCD has been involved in organisation of sensitisation workshops for SABLA. This month one workshop was organised at Regional Centre, Lucknow on 26th November, 2010.

 

Celebration of Children’s Day

  • Regional Centre, Indore celebrated Children’s day in coordination with Health Department and ICDS involving 500 women and children.  The main activities organized were health check up; awareness campaign; and sports meet for children from Sanjivani (Children home run by police officials, Indore) and Avasar (project for children in observation home, Indore)

  • Regional Consultation Meet on ICPS for Senior Government Officials/Nodal Officers was organised by Headquarters on 3rd November, 2010 with the objectives to:  create a safe and secure environment for the overall development of the children who are in need of care and protection as well as the children in conflict with law. Twenty-three participants attended the meet.

  • Orientation Training on Micro Enterprise Development for Women was organised by Headquarters 8-11 November, 2010 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants about how to promote micro-enterprise for women; make them aware about developing entrepreneurship among women and management of micro-enterprises; impart knowledge and skill in selection of viable economic activities, credit, marketing and other support services for micro-enterprises; develop capabilities on preparation of business plan for starting micro-enterprise; and share the experience of participants on the management of micro-enterprise. Thirty-six participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Advocacy Skills to Achieve Food and Nutrition Security was organised by Regional Centre Bangaluru from 8-12 November, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants on present situation of food and nutrition security; acquaint them about the causes, effects of food and nutrition insecurity in vulnerable groups; appraise about the existing programmatic and operational directives to achieve food and nutrition security; make them aware of different Advocacy methods for achieving food and nutrition security among vulnerable groups; and enhance their advocacy skills in achieving food and nutrition security. Twenty-eight participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Training on Child Rights and Protection for Superintendents of Children’s Homes/Asstt. Directors/Probation Officers/Welfare Officers/VOs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 8-12 November, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of Child Rights and Protection; unable them to understand service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions; and create an understanding of the Good Child Protection Practices including  various legislations, policies and programmes etc. Seventeen participants attended the training.

  • Two Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati and Regional Centre, Indore from 8 November – 7 December, 2010 simultaneously with the objectives to orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme, its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarise them with their role and responsibilities vis-à-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS projects. In all fifty-six participants are attending these courses.

  • Programme on Leadership Development Training for CDPOs and District Programme Officers was organised by Headquarters at Regional Centre, Guwahati from 9-12 November, 2010 with the objectives to: apprise the participants about the qualities of effective leadership; develop requisite capabilities to become an effective leader for better supervision and monitoring of ICDS programme; and help them to prepare effective plan of action for quality improvement in delivery of ICDS services. Twenty-three participants attended the programe.

  • Two Sensitisation Programmes on JJ System and ICPS for Personnel of Legal Aid Services Authority were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Bagaluru from 10-12 November, and 24-26 November, 2010 respectively. The main objectives of these programmes were to: sensitise the members of State and District Legal Service Authority to the Juvenile (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006 vis-a-vis ICPS; enable them to understand the problems of children in conflict with law and importance of rehabilitation; and create clarity and understanding of the role and responsibilities of the members in ensuring free legal aid services to children under the said Act. In all seventy-one participants attended these programmes.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Bangaluru from November 18-19 November, 2010 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants on locus and manifestation of gender violence; discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women specially on domestic violence; analyze the problem and work out strategies for addressing the problem of domestic violence of women; and discuss existing mechanisms/support services and offer suggestions towards strengthening them. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Programme for School Teachers on Learning and Behaviour Problems in Children was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 20 November, 2010. The main objectives of the programme were to: sensitise school teachers on learning and behavioural problems of children and to develop their skills in identification of children with these problems; and enable them to develop a strategy for seeking timely intervention for children from specialised agencies. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Trainers of Police Training Institutes on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children was organised by Headquarters from 22-24 November, 2010 with the objectives to: clarify concepts and develop proper attitudinal orientation on trafficking; empower the trainees with laws and procedures on commercial sexual exploitation; make the trainees aware of laws and procedures on trafficking for exploitative labour and other exploitation; upgrade their skills on investigation techniques; and empower them with skills of rescuing victims, prosecution  of trafficking criminals and prevention of trafficking including re-trafficking. Twenty-three participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Supportive Interventions for Children with Learning Problems was organised by Headquarters from 22-24 November, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to various learning problems in children and their causal associates; acquaint them with the intervention measures to nurture emotional well being of children with learning problems; and apprise them with strategies of organising supportive services for children in the school. Thirty-seven participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop on Promoting In-country Adoption was organised by Headquarters in collaboration with CARA at Bangaluru on 23 November, 2010 with the objectives to discuss about the significance of adoption and non-institutional care; apprise them about procedures involved in in-country adoption vis-a-vis Juvenile Justice and ICPS; discuss strategies for promoting in-country adoption and also problems of Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs); and obtain feedback about regional needs and requirement concerning adoption. Seventy participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitization Programme on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005 for College / University Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 23 -25, November, 2010 with the objectives to: discuss the trends in domestic violence over the past decade and the measures adopted to combat it; orient them on the provisions of the “ Protection of Women from Domestic Violence ‘ Act, 2005; and enable them to take a proactive role in bringing about awareness among the students on the issue. Thirty-four participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for DPOs on Nutrition Issues with Special Focus on Prevention and Reduction of Malnutrition in Children was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 24-26 November, 2010 with the objectives to: appraise the newly appointed DMTT trainers about ICDS programme and its services; acquaint them with the area childhood care and development, child health and nutrition; enable them to systematically plan and organize training programmes; and build up their communication and training skills.   • Sensitisation Programme for Police Officials on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 in collaboration with Police Academy/Training College was organised by Headquarters from 7-9 December, 2010 at Phillaur, Punjab with the objectives to: sensitise the police officers to the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 and ICPS; create clarity and understanding of their roles and responsibilities  in the implementation of the Act; sensitise them  to deal with children in conflict with law softly and sensitively; and facilitate the speedy disposal of cases. Forty participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Issues Relating to Women and Children for Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 9-11 December, 2010 with the objectives to: discuss the situation of women and children; share the constitutional provisions/acts and its implementation for protection, empowerment and development of women and children; and identify and emphasize the role of PRIs in protection, empowerment and development of women and children. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 and Child Psychology/Child Welfare for Judicial Magistrates/Judges/Chairpersons of JJBs was organised by Headquarters from 10-12 December, 2010 on the request of Government of Haryana. The main objectives of the programme were to: orient the participants to the JJ Act, 2006 and ICPS; help them to understand their roles and responsibilities in implementation of the Act and ICPS; orient them to the techniques of communicating with children in the context of their developmental abilities; and sensitise them skills and abilities of children across various age epochs. Forty-two participants attended the training.

  • Workshop for the Parents on Learning and Behavioural Problems of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 11 December, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the causal links of behaviour problems in children and the need for assessment; sensitise them broad strategies of intervention; and discuss their role in helping their child with behaviour problems. Fifty-one parents attended the workshop. 

  • Orientation Programme on Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) for Heads of Voluntary Organisations running Creches was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 13 – 15 December, 2010 with the objectives to: develop better understanding of various aspects of child development, particularly in the context of children between 0-6 years; sensitise them to develop and understand the concept of Early Childhood Care & Development and develop appropriate programmes; and facilitate them to develop viable strategies to make qualitative assessment of Early Childhood Development programmes. Thirty-two participants attended the training.

  • Training on Child Labour for SSA Officials and Functionaries of NGOs Working in Tea Garden Areas was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 15-17 December, 2010 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants to the rights of the child; sensitise them to the plights of working children in the tea industry; orient them  to legal provisions for prohibition of child labour; and develop strategies for combating child labour and increasing school enrollment  and school attendance in tea garden areas. Thirty-four participants attended the training.

  • Training of NGOs on Economic Empowerment of Tribal/Rural Women through Micro-enterprise was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 13-17 December, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarize the participants with the policies and programmes of  empowerment of tribal women; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of tribal women; acquaint them about how to promote micro enterprises for tribal and rural women; impart knowledge and skills in selection of viable economic activities, credit, marketing and other support services for micro enterprises; and develop capabilities on preparation of business plan for starting a micro enterprise. Eleven participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Programme on Issues related to Child Rights and Protection for School Principals and Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 20 – 21 December, 2010 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions thereof. Thirty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations and Government Officials on Women’s Empowerment was organised by Headquarters from  20-24 December, 2010 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitise the participants on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of women; and provide insight on formulation of  gender sensitive projects. Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Trainers (ToT) on Juvenile Justice System and ICPS for Police Officers and Representatives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters 20-24 December, 2010 at Lucknow. The main objectives of the training were to: enable the participants to develop an understanding of the Juvenile Justice System; orient them main features of Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) and their roles and responsibilities in ICPS; help them to administer the Training Manual on Juvenile System for Police Officials developed for the purpose and practice of training sessions. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

  • Workshop on In-country Adoption (in collaboration with CARA) was organised by Headquarters at Lucknow on  23 December, 2010 with the objectives to: discuss about the significance of adoption and non-institutional care; apprise them about procedures involved in in-country adoption vis-a-vis Juvenile Justice and ICPS; discuss strategies for promoting in-country adoption and also problems of Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs); and obtain feedback about regional needs and requirement concerning adoption. Eighty-two participants attended the workshop.
