Important Activities for the year 2009

 

January 2009

  • Two Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Indore from 5 January – 2 February, 2009 and 5 January – 4 February, 2009 respectively with the objectives to orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation;  and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. In all 46 participants are attending these courses.

  • Four Training Programmes for ICDS Functionaries on Accreditation of AWCs (in collaboration with DWCD, Govt. of Karnataka) were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 5-6, 7-8, 12-13 and 19-20 January, 2009 respectively with the objectives to: orient the participants on accreditation system in ICDS, give exposure to them on grading/rating AWC and draw-up a district training action plan on accreditation system. In all 169 participants attended these programmes.             

  • Three Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore, Lucknow and Guwahati  from 5-9 January, 2009 respectively with the objectives to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and  sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial  skills. In all 80 participants attended these courses.

  • Orientation Course on Communication and Negotiation Skills for Functionaries of Voluntary Organiations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 6-8 January, 2009 with the objectives to:  orient the participants on concept and importance of communication process and negotiation; equip them with effective communication and negotiation skills for better work performance; and enable them to be a better negotiator in the dealings of their organization. Thirty-five participants attended the course.  

  • Two Sensitisation Programmes for Committee Members on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Bangalore  from 7-9 and 20-22 January, 2009 respectively with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on manifestation of gender violence; discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women specially at work place; analyse the problems and work out strategies for prevention of sexual harassment of women at work place; and discuss existing mechanism/support services and provide suggestions for strengthening them. In all fifty-eight participants attended these programmes.

  • Joint Training of ICDS and Health Functionaries on Issues Related to Women and Children was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 12-16 January, 2009 with the objectives to: provide information on issues related to health and development of women and children; review the existing status of coordination mechanism among the ICDS and Health functionaries; and suggest ways and means for improving the coordination between ICDS and Health functionaries for better implementation of ICDS services. Forty-nine participants attended the course.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Community Mobilization and Participation was organised by Headquarters from 19-23 January, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: develop understanding of the concepts and principles of community mobilisation and participation; develop skills of trainers in eliciting community participation and participatory communication techniques; and equip them with skills to impart training to Supervisors and AWWs in the area of community participation. Twenty participants attended the training.

  • Parent Education Workshop on Child Abuse was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 20 January, 2009. The main objectives of the workshop were to: create awareness among parents on child rights including development and protection; and facilitate parents to appreciate about education of girl child. Fifty participants attended the workshop.

  • Skill Training to ICDS Functionaries on IYCF (in collaboration with DWCD, Govt. of Karnataka) was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 22-23 January, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: impart knowledge, understanding and support regarding breastfeeding and complementary feeding issues; orient them about counselling mothers and caregivers for enhancing optimal infant and young child feeding practices as per guidelines of the Global Strategy for Infant and young Child Feeding; and equip them with counselling skills on breastfeeding, complementary feeding, as also counselling HIV positive mothers on infant feeding.  Forty-two participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training on Growth Monitoring and Promotion for ICDS Functionaries   was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-4 February, 2009 with the objectives to: share an update with the participants on 11th plan provisions on ICDS universalisation with quality, for enhancing young child growth and development; sensitise about the new WHO Child Growth Standards and the programme implications of introducing New WHO Child Growth; and to build-up their counseling skills for growth monitoring and promotion. Thirty-nine participants attended the training.

  • Regional Consultation Meet on Strategies for Ensuring Food and Nutrition Security of Vulnerable Groups was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 4-6 February, 2009  with the objectives to:  examine the present situation of food and nutrition security; review existing programmatic and operational directives to achieve food and nutrition security; discuss the challenges for achieving food and nutrition security among vulnerable groups; and work out the strategies for improving nutrition security of women and children. Forty-seven participants attended the meet.

  • Parents Education Workshop on Learning and Behavioural Problems in Children was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 7 February, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitize parents about learning and common behavioural problems in children; create awareness about quality parenting; and acquaint parents with the techniques of management of learning and common behavioural problems in children. Forty parents attended the workshop

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore  from 9-13 February, 2009 with the objectives to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and  sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial  skills. Seventeen CDPOs attended the course

  • Regional Consultation of the Members of the Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs)  was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 10-11 February, 2009 with the objectives to:  review the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice Act 2000 by States/UTs; to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the members of JJB; to highlight the importance of Institutional and non-Institutional  services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social reintegration of children; to identify the obstacles/ difficulties in carrying out their (JJB) roles  and responsibilities; and to develop the State Specific Action Plan for implementation. Forty-three participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Implementation of Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from  10-12, February 2009 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives about gender based violence its causes, manifestations and consequences; discuss sexual violence and trafficking of women and girls; enable them to acquire necessary knowledge about laws relating to violence; workout strategies for combating  gender based violence; discuss various ways and means of capacity building of violence victim; and provide a forum for sharing the experiences of participants working on gender based violence. Thirty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006 was organised by Headquarters from 11-13 February, 2009 at Lucknow. The main objectives of the programme were to: orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at the regional level for strengthening implementation of Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and the community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration; and to facilitate speedy disposal  of cases. Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Gender Sensitisation Training Programme for Law Enforcement Agencies was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 16-18 February, 2009 with the objectives to: enable participants to develop a clear perspective on gender issues; sensitise them towards women’s development and empowerment; equip them with appropriate skills necessary for developing alternate approaches regarding victims and perpetrators. Forty-nine participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Community Mobilisation and Participation was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 16 – 20, February, 2009.The main objectives of the training were to: develop understanding of the concepts and principles of community mobilisation and participation; develop skills of trainers in eliciting community participation and participatory communication techniques; and equip them with skills to impart training to Supervisors and AWWs in the area of community participation. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

  • Training on Planning and Designing a Project was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 17-20 February, 2009 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance the knowledge-base and skills of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and analyse pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals. Forty participants attended the training.

  • Gender Sensitization Workshop for Police Officers of Karnataka was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 23-25 February, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness about gender inequality and violence against women prevalent in the society and the need to deal with it sensitively; and impart knowledge on the critical issues and legislations concerning women and children. Twenty-three police officers attended the workshop.

  • Training on Micro Enterprise and Small Business Development for Trainers of SHGs is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 23-27, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants to the gender issues with special focus on economic empowerment; orient them on existing support available for micro enterprise small business development by women groups; create awareness on critical issues and constraints in micro enterprise and small business development; and build the capacity of trainers for developing effective micro enterprise and small business development. Forty-one participants are attending the training.

  • Orientation Training of State/District Programme Officers and Deputy Directors dealing with ICDS is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 24-26 February 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: familiarize participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by GOI for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on improving the quality of ICDS Programme. Twenty-two participants are attending the programme

  • Gender Sensitisation Programme for Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 24-28 February, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness about gender inequality and violence against women prevalent in the society and the need to deal with it sensitively; familiarize the participants with policies/programmes of women's development; sensitize them on gender issues and construction of gender; and discuss their role in women's empowerment. Thirteen participants are attending the programme

  • Workshop on Prevention of Domestic Violence for Personnel Involved in Implementation of Domestic Violence Act, 2005 is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 25-26 February, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about laws relating to violence; discuss the constraints in implementation of the law; workout strategies for combating gender based violence; and discuss various ways and means of capacity building of violence victims. Sixty-five participants are attending the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006 was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-4 March, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise and orient the participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create clarity and understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the Act; sensitise them to deal with children in conflict with law sensitively; and facilitate in the speedy disposal of cases. Twenty participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Health and Nutrition of Young Child and Women for Representatives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from  2-6 March,  2009  with the objectives to:  familiarise the participants about policies and programmes for women and children; create awareness on nutrition and health issues of women and children; and equip them with appropriate skills for imparting effective nutrition and health education. Fifteen participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Programme on Prevention of Female Foeticide and Infanticide for Voluntary Organisations/Paramedical and Medical Personnel was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 3-5 March, 2009 with the objectives to: make the participants aware about the current scenario of female foeticide and factors affecting it; discuss the possible consequences of declining sex ratio; and workout strategies for prevention of female foeticide. Twenty participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course for State Programme Officers and Deputy Directors Dealing with ICDS was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 3-5 March, 2009 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about the recent developments in ICDS; apprise them about various innovative practices and initiatives in ICDS; analyse problems hindering successful implementation of the programme; and facilitate them in preparation of an action plan to improve the quality of ICDS programme. Fifteen participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Financial Management & Financial Reporting for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations was organised by the Headquarters from 3-6 March, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: discuss the need and importance of financial planning and reporting: impart knowledge on need for developing effective internal controls and accounting systems; develop their skills in budgeting and maintaining books of accounts; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Two Parent Education Workshops were organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow and Guwahati on 5 March, 2009 and 21 March 2009 respectively. The main objectives of the workshops were to: orient the parents about the normal growth and development of children; enhance parents’ understanding on children’s scholastic, social, behavioural and emotional problems; and to equip them with various techniques of parenting. In all, ninety-seven parents attended the workshops.

  • Workshop on Prevention and Early Identification of Childhood Disabilities was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati12-13 March, 2009 with the objectives to: review the existing measures for prevention of childhood disabilities; deliberate on services for early detection and rehabilitation of disabilities; discuss the role of rehabilitation professionals and community in prevention and identification of childhood disabilities; and formulate strategies for prevention and rehabilitation of childhood disabilities. Forty-nine participants attended the workshop.

  • Training of Grant Receiving NGO’s on the Scheme of UJJAWALA was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 March, 2009 with the objectives to:  orient the participants about the concept of UJJAWALA Scheme; orient them towards prevention, rescue, rehabilitation and re-integration of victims of trafficking; enhance skills of the participants in project preparation; and discuss the monitoring and networking systems within the framework of national and State-level machinery.   Thirty-two participants attended the training.

  • Effective Implementation of Constitutional Provisions for Safety, Protection and Development of Women and Children : A Consultation Meet  was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from  16-18 March 2009 with the objectives to: examine the implementation  of constitutional provisions for women and children from the rights’ perspective; explore socio economic and cultural context that influence the scope of these provisions; review   strategies for safety, protection and development of women and children; discuss the convergence mechanism for effecting constitutional provisions for safety of women and children; and  recommend strategies for effective implementation of constitutional provisions for women and children. Thirty-three participants attended the meet.

  • Orientation Course for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations on Monitoring and Evaluation of Development Programmes for Women and Children was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 March, 2009 with the objectives to:  orient the functionaries of voluntary organizations to the fundamental concepts of monitoring and evaluation; and build their capacity with regard to techniques and methods of monitoring and evaluation of developmental programmes for women and children. Twenty-seven participants attended the course.

  • Three State Level Training and Sensitisation Programmes on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006 were organised by Headquarters, two were organised from 16-20 March, 2009 at Patna and Chennai respectively and another from 25-27 March 2009 at Jaipur. The main objectives of the programmes were to: orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at the regional level for strengthening implementation of Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and the community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration; and to facilitate speedy disposal  of cases. In all, hundred and fifteen participants attended these programmes.

  • Regional Consultation of the Member of the Child Committee(CWCs) was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 18-19 March, 2009 review of the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice Amendment Act 2006 by States/UTs; discuss the roles and  responsibilities of the members of CWC; highlight the importance of non-Institutional services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social reintegration of children; identify the obstacles/difficulties in carrying out their roles and responsibilities; and develop State Specific Action Plan for implementation. Thirty-one participants attended the programme.

  • Refresher Course for Instructors of MLTCs is being organised by Headquarters from 23-27 March, 2009 with the objectives to: assess the training needs of instructors; provide them a forum for sharing of experiences; apprise them about recent developments and trends in ICDS; sharpen their communication, supervisory and training skills; and update their knowledge in adopting systematic approach to training. Fifteen participants are attending the course.

  • Skill Training of Trainers of AWTC/MLTC on Infant and Young Child Feeding and Counselling (IYCF) was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 23-27 March, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: impart knowledge, understanding and support regarding breastfeeding and complementary feeding issues; orient them about counselling mothers and caregivers for enhancing optimal infant and young child feeding practices as per guidelines of the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding; and equip them with counselling skills on breastfeeding, complementary feeding, as also counselling HIV positive mothers on infant feeding. Eleven participants are attending the training.

  • Certificate Course on Child Rights and Protection is being organised by Headquarters from 23 March – 17 April, 2009. The main objectives of the course are to: build knowledge base of participants on child rights and child protection and rights based approach for organising training and implementing ICPS programme; facilitate improvement in quality and standards of services for children in need of special care; sensitise them about the procedures and provisions for children under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; provide exposure to participants to field situation and innovative approaches in the area of child protection with hands on training to sharpen their skills; and create a cadre of functionaries to work in the area of child protection with requisite knowledge and skills on the subject.  Twenty-two participants are attending the course.

  • Forthcoming Programmes of the Month

    1. State Level Training and Sensitisation Programme on J J ( Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006  in Delhi from 30th March-1st April 2009 by the Headquarters.

  • Orientation Training for Instructors MLTCs was organised by Headquarters from 13-21 April, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: apprise the newly appointed Instructors of MLTCs about the ICDS programme and its services including issues related to early childhood care and development, child health, nutrition and education; build up their training and communication skills; and enable them to systematically plan and organise training programme for Supervisors and Instructors of AWTCs by familiarising them with training syllabi of concerned functionaries. Five participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training Programme on ECCD for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 20-24 April 2009  with the objectives to: orient the participants to the concept and significance of ECCD; enable the participants to develop better understanding of various critical issues related to survival, growth and development of children; help participants acquire skills for enhancing early development; discuss the existing community resources for promoting early childhood care and development; and enable the participants to plan and prepare need based integrated programme for all round development of children. Twelve  participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training on Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI) for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 20-24 April, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to:  build the capacity of trainers of ICDS functionaries in management of childhood illnesses in an integrated manner; familiarize them about techniques of assessment, classification and treatment of common childhood diseases; and strengthen communication and counselling skills of trainers. Twenty-one participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) for Voluntary  Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 20-25 April 2009 with the objectives to: develop understanding of concept, principles and techniques of PLA;  highlight the need and importance of PLA techniques in community participation especially for women and child welfare/development programmes; impart theoretical and practical training in conducting PLA; and  sensitize them in evolving plan of action for the development of women and children with the help of PLA techniques. Forty-five participants attended the training.

  • Job Training Course of ICDS Supervisors is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 20 April-20 May 2009 with the objectives to: orient the Supervisors to various components of the scheme; enable them to understand their roles and responsibilities, as well as those of other functionaries; and develop in them appropriate skills necessary for supervision, public relation, scheme implementation and general administration.  Twenty-eight participants are attending the course.

  • National Workshop on Gender Data Gaps was organised by the Headquarters from 21-22 April 2009 with the objectives to: identify gender gaps in chosen thematic areas and appropriate strategic action for bridging the gaps; explore alternative data sources for improvement of administrative data and would make recommendations for strengthening the data-base. Sixty-five participants attended the Workshop.

  • Training on Planning and Designing a Project was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 21-24 April 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance the knowledge base and skills of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and analyze pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals. Twenty-one participants attended the training.

  • Training Programme on Legal Matters and Counselling Pertaining to Women’s Issues was organised by the Headquarters from 22-24 April 2009 with the objectives to: build the capacity of the Coordinators and Counsellors in handling cases of women/girl victims of violence; enhancing their skills in protecting the rights of women/ girls and empowering them; update them on recent laws and procedures to expedite relief for women victims of violence; and provide a platform for sharing experiences to evolve effective case management strategies. Twenty participants attended the programme.

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 27 April- 27 May 2009 with the objectives to:  orient the CDPOs / ACDPOs to various components of ICDS Scheme; enable them to understand their own role, as well as the roles and responsibilities of other functionaries of the scheme; equip them with adequate knowledge and skills for providing the job training to peripheral workers of the scheme; and facilitate them to develop skills necessary for administration and management of the ICDS scheme. Twenty participants are attending the course.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Headquarters from 27 April- 1 May 2009. The main objectives of the course were to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences to the participants; apprise them about the recent developments in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. Thirty-three participants are attending the course.

  • Training Programme on Evolving Sustainable Development Programme for Street and Working Children for Functionaries of VOs  is being organised by Headquarters from 27 April-1 May 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants to the importance of evolving sustainable development programme for street and working children, facilitate them to design such programmes taking into consideration a holistic view on the issue; and work-out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a programme. Eighteen participants are attending the programme.

  • Orientation Programme on Effective Management of ECCE for Senior Personnel of Social Organisations is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 27 April -1 May 2009 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants to the needs of children; discuss the nature of services and its delivery; acquaint  on  the effective functioning of ECCE centres in the context of present trend; orient them to the early childhood learning experiences; and apprise them about the minimum standards for ECCE centres. Eighteen participants are attending the programme.

  • Three Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 4 - 8 May 2009 and Regional Centre, Guwahati and Headquarters from 25-29 May 2009 respectively with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; provide a forum for sharing experiences; apprise them on the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the area of early childhood care and development; and sharpen the skills in communication, counselling and the management. In all,  seventy participants attended these courses.

  • Training of Trainers of AWTCs/ MLTCs on Training Techniques was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 4-8 May, 2009 with the objectives to: build up the skills of trainers of MLTCs/AWTCs in planning and organizing a training programme; apprise the trainers about the concept and stages of training cycle; familiarize the participants about various training approaches and methods; and equip the trainees to select, prepare and use different training materials effectively. Fifteen participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Voluntary Organisations on Prevention of Child Marriages was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 5-7 May, 2009 with the objectives to:  sensitise participants about legal and constitutional rights related to adolescent/women; provide information about legal machineries dealing with care, protection and justice for adolescent/women; and facilitate participants to develop action plan for prevention of child marriages in India. Fifteen participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training On Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 5-7 May, 2009 with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organization, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations.   Twenty participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Combating Domestic and Gender Based Violence was organised by Headquarters from 11-15 May, 2009 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives about gender based violence its causes, manifestations and consequences; discuss sexual violence and trafficking of women and girls; enable them to acquire knowledge about laws relating to violence; workout strategies for combating gender based violence; discuss various ways and means of capacity building of violence victim ; and provide a forum for sharing the experiences of participants working on gender based violence.  Thirty - four participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Strengthening Pre-School Education Component in ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 11-15 May, 2009 with the objectives to: strengthen the knowledge and understanding of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on importance of early years and need of ECCD; strengthen skills of participants in planning and organizing pre school education activities at AWC, as also for conducting early childhood stimulation and pre school education activities. Fifteen participants attended the training

  • Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 11-14 May, 2009 with the objectives to: develop professional skills among the participants for making programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; apprise them of techniques of good governance; and enhance their capabilities to govern their organisation better. Thirty -seven       participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Adolescent Health and HIV / AIDS was organised by Headquarters from 18-22 May, 2009 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop an understanding of the issues relating to adolescent health and HIV/AIDS; discuss the existing strategies for promotion of adolescent health and development; develop skills in communicating effectively with adolescents; and build the capacity of personnel of voluntary organizations with the necessary techniques and skills in nutrition and health education for dealing with issues related to adolescent health and nutrition. Twenty participants attended the course.

  • Two Training Courses on Mobilisation and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organisations were organised by Regional Centre Indore and Headquarters from 4 -7 May 2009 and 18-22 May, 2009 respectively with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants on the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation; enable them to manage their financial matters and funds; and provide information on legal framework for voluntary organizations. In all Seventy -two participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Course on Formation of SHGs for Representatives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 18 -22 May, 2009 with the objectives to: enable participants to understand the concept, importance, dynamics and objectives of SHG for women; develop the skill of participants to train members of SHGs for its management; and help them to understand the importance and benefit of networking of SHGs and role of members of SHGs as change agents; and equip them with skills in formation, development and strengthening of SHGs. Twenty-two participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Training Programme on Prevention of Female Foeticide and Infanticide was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 19 -21 May, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on issues of gender violence with special reference to female foeticide and infanticide; sensitize them to the magnitude of the problem and its overall impact on status of women, discuss the existing policies and legislation to curb female foeticide and infanticide; and identify strategies for strengthening the existing mechanism to curb these practices. Twenty -eight participants attended the programme.  

  • Sensitisation programme on Effective Implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was organised by Headquarters from 25-26 May, 2009 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge base of key stakeholders/implementing agencies for effective functioning of the Act; build capacity for better coordination; and understanding on the need for inter-agency response system for the effective implementation of the PWDVA. Thirty- seven participants attended the programme.  

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 25 May - 23 June, 2009 with the objectives to orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-à-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation;  and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. Twenty-nine participants are attending the course.

  • Orientation Training On Child Rights and Protection for Superintendents of Children’s Homes/Probation Officers/ Welfare Officers/Voluntary Organisations is being organised by  Regional Centre , Guwahati from 25-29 May, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions; and create an understanding of the good child protection practices including various legislations, policies and programmes. Forty -three participants are attending the training.

  • Job Training Course for Supervisors was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati from 1-30 June 2009 with the objectives to: train and orient the Supervisors to various components of the scheme of the ICDS; enable them understand their roles and responsibilities as well as those of other functionaries of the scheme; and enhance  their skills necessary for supervision of programme implementation and general administration. Twenty-eight participants are attending the course.

  • Orientation Course on Prevention of Micronutrient Malnutrition was organised by Headquarters from 1-5 June, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the magnitude of the problem of micronutrient malnutrition; create awareness about the policies and programmes for the control of micronutrient deficiencies; highlight causes and consequences of micronutrient malnutrition; and evolve strategies for prevention and management of micronutrient malnutrition. Twenty-five participants attended the course.

  • Two Training Programmes of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs and NIPCCD Master Trainers on New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS were organized by Regional Centre Guwahati and Lucknow from 1-3 June and 22-24 June 2009 respectively with the objectives to: enhance understanding of participants on factors determining growth and development (nutrition environment and health care); orient them about the new WHO child growth standards; impart skills on assessment interpretation and counseling for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. In all sixty-eight participants attended the training programmes.

  • Nutrition Support for HIV/AIDS in Women and Children –An Orientation Programme for Representatives of Voluntary organization of Southern States was organised by Regional Centre Bangalore from 1-3 June 2009 with the objectives to: provide an overview on the situation of HIV/AIDS in women and children; orient them about the vital role of nutrition in HIV/AIDS; provide an insight on the nutritional care and support of pregnant and lactating women/adolescent girls infected with HIV; and sensitise them on prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Fifty-two participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Communication and Negotiation Skills for Chief Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre Indore from 1-3 June2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants on concept and importance of communication process and negotiation; and equip them with effective communication and negotiation skills for better work performance. Twelve participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Course on Adolescent Health, Family Life Education and HIV/AIDS for Executives of Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre Lucknow from 1-5 June, 2009 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop an understanding of the issues relating to adolescent health, family, life education and HIV/AIDS; discuss the existing strategies for promotion of adolescent health and development; develop skills in communicating effectively with adolescents; and build the capacity of personnel of voluntary organizations for transacting family life education with adolescents.Twenty participants attended the course.

  • Regional Consultation of the Members of the CWCs was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 3-5 June 2009 with the objectives to: review of the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice Amendment Act 2006 by States/UTs; discuss the roles and  responsibilities of the members of CWC; highlight the importance of non-Institutional services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social reintegration of children; identify the obstacles/difficulties in carrying out their roles and responsibilities; and develop State Specific Action Plan for implementation.  Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Trainers on Life Skill Education (LSE) of Tribal Adolescent Girls was organised by Regional Centre Indore from 8-11 June, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise participants about situation of tribal adolescent girls especially related to the health and nutrition issues; orient them about need and importance of life skills education; equip them with technical skills in imparting life skills education; and develop a plan of action to carry forward training module on life skills education to the grassroots levels.  Twenty-six participants attended the training

  • Two Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised from 8-12 June 2009 and 22-26 June, 2009 by Regional Centre, Lucknow and Indore respectively. The main objectives of these courses were to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and  sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial skills. In all forty-eight participants attended these courses.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Community Mobilization and  Participation was organised by Headquarters from 8– 12 June 2009 with the objectives to: develop understanding of the concepts and principles of community mobilisation and participation; develop skills of trainers in eliciting community participation and participatory communication techniques; and equip them with skills to impart training of supervisors and AWWs in the area of community participation. Thirty participants attended the training.

  • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services For the  Counsellors  of Women Helplines was organised by Headquarters from 8-11 June, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants about women empowerment and gender based violence; create awareness about identification of problems faced by women and understand them; familiarize participants about existing programmes and support services for distressed women; discuss principles and guidelines for counselling; develop communication, negotiation and counselling skills/techniques; and promote networking among NGOs and Institutions providing support services to women in distress. Thirty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Food Safety and Hygiene for Representatives of Government Officials and Social Organizations was organised by Regional Centre Bangalore from 8-11 June, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the importance of food safety and hygiene; to create awareness on different methods of food handling and hygiene; apprise them about latest developments in food standards and food laws; and develop modalities for strengthening food safety and hygiene in public nutrition programme. Forty-five participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Life Skills Education and Counselling of Adolescent Girls was organised by Headquarters from 15-19 June, 2009 with the objectives to: apprise the participants about the concept and significance of adolescence and life     skills education; orient them about various methods in imparting life skills education; strengthen their communication and counselling skills; and       enable them to develop a strategic framework for life skills education of adolescent girls. Twenty-five participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Developing Counselling, Communication, Negotiation and Case Intervention Skills for Functionaries of Women Helpline was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati from 15-19, June 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants on counselling, communication, negotiation and case intervention skills; and equip them with effective, communication, negotiation and case intervention skills to deal with women in distress.  Thirty-one participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Child Rights and Child Protection for Superintendents of Homes/Probation/Welfare Officers/VOs was organized by Regional Centre, Indore from 15-19 June, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; and  enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions thereof.   • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for Police Personnel of CAW Cells was organised by Headquarters from 16-19 June, 2009 with the objectives to: develop clear perspectives among participants about gender based violence; provide insights on the policies and legal safeguards to curb  the problem; provide information about the existing support services for women in distress; and facilitate them to build capacities to organise counselling and psycho-social interventions for women victims of violence. Thirty -three police  personnel of Delhi Police attended the training.

  • Awareness Generation Camp for Volunteers of NGOs on Domestic Violence Act was organized by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 17-18 June, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness among the participants about the provisions under Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; familiarize them about roles and responsibilities of Protection Officers and Service Providers; and develop strategies for addressing the issues related to domestic violence. Forty-two participants attended the camp.

  • Training on Planning and Designing a Project was organised by Headquarters from 22-26 June, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance the knowledge-base and skills of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and analyse pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals.    Twenty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Police Officials was organised by Regional Centre Indore from 25-27 June, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness about the magnitude of the problems of trafficking; discuss concept, trends and dimensions of trafficking in India; familiarise them with the rescue operations, post rescue care and rehabilitation process; communication and counselling strategies for survivors and critically analyse and evolve the role of Non-Government Organisations in prevention of trafficking. Twenty-five participants are attending the course.

  • Counselling Intervention for Children Affected by Trauma, Abuse and Neglect is being organised by Headquarters from 22 June – 3 July, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitize them to the need for counselling children at-risk;  facilitate them to develop positive attitude for counselling children; and  orient them to various approaches to counselling children. Twenty-one participants are attending the training.

  • Orientation Training for Instructors of AWTCs was organised by Regional Centre Indore from 3-11 July, 2009 with the objectives to: orient participants to the various components of ICDS scheme; acquaint them with the syllabi for Anganwadi Workers and Helpers; help them to understand their roles and responsibilities in training of AWWs/AWHs; and identify the problems in training and evolve ways and means of handling them. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

The objectives of training programme were to: enhance understanding of participants on factors determining growth and development   i.e. nutrition, environment and health care; orient them about the New WHO Child Growth Standards; and impart skills on assessment, interpretation and counseling for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. In all one hundred and forty eight participants attended the training programmes.

  • Workshop on Parent Education was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati on July 9, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the parents about the needs of adolescents; and help parents to deal with the physical, emotional and mental changes during adolescence for optimum development. One hundred and ten participants attended the meeting.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Effective Implementation of “Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005” was organised by Headquarters from 9-10 July, 2009 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge base of key stakeholders/implementing agencies for effective implementation of the Act; build their capacity for better coordination; and enhance their understanding on the need for inter-agency response system for the effective implementation of PWDVA. Fifty-one participants attended the programme.

Fifty-three participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Child Abuse for District School Inspectors and Education Officers was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati from 14-16 July, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on child sexual abuse; educate about the need for protective behaviour towards abused children; and equip them with skills to empower children. Forty-six participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Course on Issues relating to Violence against Women and Children for Police Personnel was organised by Regional Centre Bangalore from 14-16 July, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the police force regarding prevalent gender inequality and violence against women in the society; educate them about the critical issues and legislations concerning women and children; and appreciate the need for sensitivity in the role of police officers dealing with cases of violence against women. Fifty- nine participants attended the training.

  • Workshop for the School Teachers on Identification and Management of Scholastic Problems of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 17 July, 2009 with the objectives to: provide theoretical framework for understanding the children’s learning difficulties; orient them to age-specific psycho–social needs and scholastic problems in children; and facilitate in identification, assessment and management of children with learning difficulties. Thirty teachers attended the workshop

  • Sensitisation Course on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children was organised by Regional Centre Bangalore from 20-22 July, 2009 with the objectives to: orient participants to the concept and processes of trafficking; help them to understand the magnitude of the problem; discuss the roles of stakeholders in anti-trafficking issues; and discuss the strategies for prevention of trafficking. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 21-24 July, 2009 with the objectives to: develop professional skills among the participants for making programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; apprise them of techniques of good governance; and enhance their capabilities to tackle the problems of lack of good governance. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Regional Workshop on Strengthening ICDS Training Programme was organised in collaboration with CARE India by Regional Centre Bangalore from 22-23 July, 2009 with the objectives to: review the training curriculum of all ICDS functionaries; analyse the problems of training institutions in imparting training to ICDS functionaries; and suggest ways and means to strengthen training of ICDS functionaries; Seventy-five participants attended the programme.

  • Ten Training Programmes of Instructors of AWTCs / MLTCs on New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS were organised, three at Headquarters from 4-6 August, 2009, 8-10 August, 2009 & 12-13 August, 2009; one at Regional Centre, Lucknow from 18-20 August, 2009, three at Regional Centre Bangalore from 3-5 August, 2009, 18-20 August, 2009 & 25-27 August, 2009, one  at Regional Centre, Guwahati from 10-11 August, 2009  and two at Regional Centre, Indore from 11-13 August, 2009 & 26-28 August, 2009 respectively.   • National Level Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Child      Marriages in India for Voluntary Organisations was organised by the Headquarters from 10-12 August, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness on consequences of child marriage on overall development of the girl child; discuss and analyse the existing constitutional and legal measures against child marriage and their implementation; analyze the situation and provide suggestive strategies to minimize the practice. Twenty-five participants attended the sensitisation programme.

  • Training Programme on Formation of Cluster and Federation for Voluntary Organisations for Promoting SHGs for Women Empowerment was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 10-13 August , 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the concept of formation of cluster and federation; orient them to functions of cluster and federation; create awareness on  the rules and regulations in formation of cluster and federation; and apprise them about different models of cluster and  federations. Thirty -nine participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Trainers of AWTCs/ MLTCs on Prevention of Child Marriage and Female Foeticide was organised by Headquarters from 11-12 August, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about gender violence with special focus on child marriage and female foeticide; create awareness about the magnitude of the problem and its overall impact on the status of girl child and women; and  discuss related laws and strategies for bringing about attitudinal changes to curb female foeticide and child marriage. Twenty-one participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore  from 11-13 August, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on manifestation of gender based violence; discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women specially at work place; analyse the problems and work out strategies for prevention of sexual harassment of women at work place; and discuss existing mechanism/support services and provide suggestions for strengthening them. Forty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Two Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Guwahati from 17August -15 September, 2009 and 19 August -17 September, 2009 respectively with the objectives to orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarise them with their role and responsibilities vis-à-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. In all fifty-seven participants are attending the course.

  • Orientation Training on Child Rights and Child Protection for Superintendents of Children’s Homes/ Probation Officers/ Welfare Officers/ VOs was organised by the Headquarters from 17-21 August, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms. Eighteen participants attended the programme.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 17-21, August, 2009. The main objectives of the course were to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial skills. Seven   participants attended the course.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Food & Nutrition Security of Vulnerable Groups during Emergencies was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 17-20 August, 2009.The main objectives of the programme were to: provide information on the vulnerability and nutritional requirement of women and children during emergencies ; apprise them about food security standards, nutrition standards and food aid standards to be adopted during emergencies; orient about the role of the Government agencies and voluntary organisations in ensuring food and nutrition security; and provide insight on addressing the food and nutrition security of women and children through development programmes. Sixteen participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop for Parents on Identification and Management of Scholastic Problems of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on     19 August, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the causal links of scholastic problems in children and       the need for assessment; sensitise them to the broad strategies of intervention; and discuss their role in helping their child with scholastic problems. Thirty-two parents attended the workshop.

  • Regional Workshop on Strengthening ICDS Training Programme was organised in collaboration with CARE India by Regional Centre Guwahati from 20-21 August, 2009 with the objectives to: review the training curriculum of all ICDS functionaries; analyse the problems of training institutions in imparting training to ICDS functionaries; and suggest ways and means to strengthen training of ICDS functionaries. Ninety–six participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Fund Raising Techniques and Resource Management for Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 24-27 August, 2009 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants to fund raising techniques; impart knowledge on need for developing internal controls and accounting systems for effective utilization of funds and resources; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Twenty-three participants are attending the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations and Government Officials on Women Empowerment is being organised by Headquarters from 24-28 August, 2009 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitise them on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of women; and provide insight on project formulation with gender sensitivity. Twenty-seven participants are attending the programme.

  • Orientation Training on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 24-28 August, 2009 with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organization, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations. Twenty-two participants are attending the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for the District Level Officials in North Eastern Region is being organised by Regional Centre Guwahati from 25-28 August, 2009 with the objectives to: orient participants to the concept and processes of trafficking; help them to understand the magnitude of the problem; discuss the roles of stakeholders in anti-trafficking issues; and discuss the strategies for prevention of trafficking. Twenty-five participants are attending the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Micronutrients for Representatives of Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 26-28 August, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the magnitude of the problem of micronutrient malnutrition; create awareness about the policies and programmes for the control of micronutrient deficiencies; highlight causes and consequences of micronutrient malnutrition; and evolve strategies for prevention and management of micronutrient malnutrition.   • Ten Training Programmes of Instructors of AWTCs / MLTCs on New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS were organised, one at Headquarters from    2-4 September, 2009; two at Regional Centre, Lucknow from 2-4 September, 2009 and 8-10 September, 2009; two at Regional Centre Bangalore from 1-3 September, 2009, and 8-10 September, 2009, two  at Regional Centre, Guwahati from 3-5 September, 2009 and 14-16 September, 2009  and three at Regional Centre, Indore from 1-3 September, 2009, 7-9 September, 2009 and 10-12 September, 2009 respectively. The objectives of training programmes were to: enhance understanding of participants on factors determining growth and development   i.e. nutrition, environment and health care; orient them about the New WHO Child Growth Standards; and impart skills on assessment, interpretation and counseling for promotion of optimal growth and development of the child. In all three hundred and ten participants attended these training programmes.

  • Workshop on Early Childhood Education for ICDS Officials was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 1-3 September, 2009 with the objectives to: review the early childhood education component of ICDS Programme; and to evolve appropriate strategies for enhancing quality of early childhood education.  Forty-one participants attended the workshop.

  • Three Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore, Guwahati and Lucknow from 22-26 September, 2009, 7-11 September, 2009 and 14-18 September, 2009 respectively  with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences to the participants; apprise them about the recent developments in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. In all sixty-one participants attended these courses.

  • Orientation Training Programme on Health and Nutrition Issues Affecting Women for Representatives of NGOs was organised by Headquarters at Kolkata  from 7-11 September, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: orient the participants to fundamental concepts in nutrition and health care of women; orient them to various issues affecting health and nutrition of women; acquaint them with the policies and programmes related to health and nutrition of women; build their capacity with necessary skills and techniques in NHE; and develop their skills gender analysis of programmes related to health and nutrition of women. Twenty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Training Programme on Community Micro Planning for Development of Women and Children of Tribals and Other Underprivileged Sections of Society for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 7-11 September, 2009 with the objectives to: expose the participants to the concept of micro planning so as to evolve participatory development methodology to address the problems of women and children belonging to tribals and other underprivileged sections of society; help the participants to evolve a module for integrated micro planning involving the community; facilitate evolving a developmental action plan which comprises identifying and prioritizing problems, strategies and options for dealing with the problems; and developing a rudimentary work programme describing approaches and strategies. Twenty-five participants attended the course.

  • Workshop for School Teachers on Identification and Management of Scholastic Problems of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 9th September, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the psychosocial needs of the children; orient them to the scholastic problems of children and its management; and sensitise them to the need and importance of early intervention. Twelve participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Effective Implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005 was organised by Headquarters at Guwahati from 10-11 September, 2009 with objectives to: enhance the knowledge base of key stakeholders/implementing agencies for effective implementation of Act; build their capacity for better coordination roles and understanding on the need for inter-agency response system for the Effective Implementation of the PWDVA, 2005. Thirty-six participants attended the programme.

  • Training of NGOs on Economic Empowerment of Tribal, Rural Women through Micro-enterprise was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from       14-18 September, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness among the participants about the policies and programmes for empowerment of tribal women; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of tribal women; acquaint them about micro enterprise development; impart knowledge and skill in selection of viable economic activities, credit, marketing and other support services for micro enterprise; and develop capabilities on preparation of business plan for starting micro enterprise. Eight participants attended the training. 

  • Sensitisation Programme for DPOs on Nutrition Issues with Special Focus on Prevention and Reduction of Malnutrition in Children in collaboration with UNICEF was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 15-17 September, 2009 with the objectives to: enhance the understanding of the DPOs with regard to current situation of nutrition in the State; apprise them about the recent updates in the field of nutrition; and equip them with information  and skills to develop plan of action to address malnutrition in the districts. Eleven participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop on Preparation of Low Cost PSE Material for Instructors of AWTCs was organised by Headquarters from 16-18 September, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness on the major domains of child development and importance of PSE in ICDS; apprise them on   the need and significance of use of low cost PSE material in preschool education in ICDS; development of requisite skills and competencies in planning, preparation and use of low-cost preschool education aids for various PSE activities. Thirty-eight participants attended the workshop.

  • Workshop for Parents of Child Care Centre was organised by Headquarters on 18th September, 2009 with the objectives to: create a forum for parents to discuss developmental issues of pre-school   children; and facilitate parents with supportive strategies to address challenges of growing up. Twenty parents attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Course for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations on Monitoring and Evaluation of Developmental Programmes on Women and Children was organised by Headquarters from 22-25 September, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the functionaries of voluntary organisations to the fundamental concepts of monitoring and evaluation; and build the capacity of functionaries of voluntary organisations with regard to techniques and methods of monitoring and evaluation of developmental programmes for women and children.  Twenty-two participants attended the course.

  • State Level Sensitisation Programme on  Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 and ICPS in collaboration with CHETNA was organised by Headquarters at Ahmedabad from 23-25 September, 2009 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants about Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS); sensitise and orient them to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006; orient them about the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of ICPS and Juvenile Justice Act; discuss the role of voluntary agencies and community in ICPS and Juvenile Justice Act; and discuss the procedures for speedy disposal of case under Juvenile Justice Act. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Regional Training Programme on Child Rights for PRI Functionaries in collaboration with NCPCR was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from    23-25 September, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants on child rights and the role of PRI functionaries on ensuring rights of the child; and evolve mechanisms for monitoring child rights by Zila Parishads, Block and Gram Panchayats.  Thirty-six participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training on Infant and Young Child Feeding and Counselling          for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 5-9 October, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the    optimal infant and young child feeding practices; create awareness about the            policies, programmes and plans for health and nutrition of women and       children; highlight fundamental factors affecting feeding practices for infants           and young children; enhance counselling skills on infants and young child             feeding practices; and evolve strategies to protect, promote and support     optimal infant and young child feeding practices.   • Training Programme on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Women and Children for SAARC Countries was organised by   Headquarters from 5-14 October, 2009 with the objectives to: familiarise  the participants on the state of trafficking in human beings with particular reference to Asia and South Asia; make them aware of the extent of trafficking in women and children for commercial sexual exploitation; orient them on the strategies that are required to be adopted for preventing and combating trafficking of human beings; impart Knowledge on legal structure and law enforcement measures adopted in India against trafficking and exploitation; familiarise them with relief and rehabilitation measures for victims rescued; and apprise  them  of health  and  social consequences of trafficking. Fifteen participants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Srilanka attended the training.

Twenty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Awareness Generation Camps for Volunteers of NGOs on Domestic Violence Act was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 7-8 October, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness among the participants about the provisions of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act; familiarise the participant about roles and responsibilities of Protection Officers and Service Providers; and help the participants in working out strategies for addressing the issues related to domestic violence.  Forty-three participants attended the camp.

  • Two Orientation Training for State / District Programme Officers and Deputy Directors Dealing with ICDS were organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Indore from 21-23 October, 2009 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by Government of India for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on strengthening quality of ICDS programme.   • Sensitisation Programme on Issues Relating to Women and Children for       Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 26-28 October, 2009 with the objectives to develop clear perspective about situation of women and children in their respective regions; create awareness about the existing policies and programmes for empowerment of women and development of children; provide information about the existing legislative measures for prevention of violence against women and children; and orient them to their role and responsibilities as elected representatives of people.   • State Level Workshop on Gender Budgeting is being organised by    Headquarters from 26 -28 October, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on the concept and the need for gender-based approach for budgeting; apprise them of its positive contributions to the economic and social development of the country; orient them on the tools of gender budgeting; and enable them to dovetail gender budget concept in projects and programmes to be undertaken by them and disseminate information widely.   • Two Orientation Training for State / District Programme Officers and Deputy Directors Dealing with ICDS were organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati and Regional Centre, Bangalore from 4-6 November, 2009 and 18- 20 November, 2009 respectively with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new  initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by Government of India for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on strengthening quality of ICDS programme. In all thirty-eight participants attended the training.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 9-13 November, 2009. The main objectives of the course were to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences with the participants; apprise them about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. Twenty -two participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Training for VOs on Financial Management and Reporting Skills was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 9-13 November, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: discuss the need and importance of financial planning and reporting; impart knowledge on need for developing effective internal controls and accounting systems; develop skills of functionaries in budgeting and maintaining books of accounts; and discuss Income tax rules and procedures. Twenty participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Legal Provisions and Safeguards for Protection of Women for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 9-13 November, 2009. The main objectives of the course were to: create awareness among participants about legal and constitutional rights; create awareness about legal provisions and safeguards for protection of women; provide information about legal machineries dealing with care, protection and justice; and facilitate participants to develop action plan for addressing women issues/rights for justice. Twenty-four participants attended the course.

  • Skill Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Infant and Young Child Feeding and Counselling (IYCF) was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 9-14 November, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about the optimal infant and young child feeding practices; create awareness about the policies, programmes and plans for health and nutrition of women and children; highlight fundamental factors affecting feeding practices for infants          and young children; enhance counselling skills on infants and young child feeding practices; and evolve strategies to protect, promote and support optimal infant and young child feeding practices. Twenty-five participants attended the training.

  • Two Orientation Programmes on Issues Relating to Child Rights and Child Protection for School Principals and Teachers were organised by Regional Centre Guwahati and Headquarters from11-12 November, 2009 and 19-20 November, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of child rights and protection; create awareness on policies, programmes and various legislations for children; and enable them to understand the existing service delivery mechanisms. In all seventy-seven participants attended the programmes.

  • Sensitization Training on Protection of Women against Domestic Violence for College Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 11 -13 November, 2009 with the objectives to: discuss the trends in Domestic Violence over the past decade and the measures adopted to combat it; create awareness on the provisions of the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence’ Act, 2005; and orient the college teachers to take a proactive role in bringing an awareness among the students on the issue. Thirty-eight participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations and Government Officials on Women’s Empowerment was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 November, 2009 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitise the participants on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; discuss the role of voluntary organisations in empowerment of women; and provide insight on formulation of  gender sensitive projects. Thirty-four participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Police Officers was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 17-19 November, 2009 with the objectives to: create awareness about the magnitude of the problem of trafficking; discuss concept, trends and dimensions of trafficking in India; familiarise them with the rescue operations, post rescue care and rehabilitation process; help develop communication and counselling strategies for survivors; and critically analyse the role of police in prevention of trafficking. Sixteen Police Officers attended the course.

  •  Workshop on Prevention of Domestic Violence for Personnel Involved in Implementation of Domestic Violence Act 2005 was organised by Regional Centre, Indore on 23 November, 2009 with the objectives to: assess procedural problems of registering a complaint and filling-up of Direct Incidence Report; problems and issues faced by Protection Officers while implementing the law; strategy to promote coordination between the Law Enforcement Agency and Protection Officers of Department of Women and Child Development; and formulate strategies for streamlining the cases on domestic violence.  Seventy-seven participants attended the workshop.

  • Skill Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on PLA Techniques was organised by Headquarters from 23-27 November, 2009 with the objectives to: develop understanding of concept, principles and techniques of PLA;  highlight the need and importance of PLA techniques in community participation especially for women and child welfare/development programmes;  impart theoretical and practical training in conducting PLA; and  sensitise the participants in evolving plan of action for the development of women and children with the help of PLA techniques. Fourteen participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 23-27 November, 2009 with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organisation, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations. Twelve participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for CWCs/JJBs/NGOs Representatives on Juvenile Justice Act 2006 and ICPS is being organised by Headquarters from 25-27 November, 2009 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants about Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS); sensitise and orient them to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006; orient them about the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of ICPS and Juvenile Justice Act; discuss the role of voluntary agencies and community in ICPS and Juvenile Justice Act; and discuss the procedures for speedy disposal of case under Juvenile Justice Act. Thirty-five participants are attending the training.

Visit of Smt. Krishna Tirath, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Women and Child Development to NIPCCD Regional Centre, Guwahati

 

Smt. Krishna Tirath, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Women and Child Development visited NIPCCD Regional Centre, Guwahati on 31st October 2009. At NIPCCD Regional Centre, Guwahati she paid floral tribute to Late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi who lost her life to terrorism on this day twenty five years ago and took a pledge alongwith the other dignitaries present on the occasion of ‘Sankalp Divas’ to fight terrorism that is adversely affecting women and children of the State of Assam. The dignitaries and others present on the occasion included Shri. Akon Bora, Hon’ble Minister of Social Welfare, Government of Assam, Shri. H. K. Sarma, Commissioner and Secretary, Social Welfare, Government of Assam, Dr. A.K. Gopal, Director, NIPCCD, Shri. O.P. Srohe, Deputy Secretary (Trg.), MWCD,  Shri. S. K. Srivastava, Joint Director, NIPCCD, Dr. Bandana Bhuyan, Regional Director, NIPCCD Regional Centre, Guwahati, officials of Social Welfare Department, Government of Assam and other faculty and staff members of NIPCCD Regional Centre, Guwahati. During her visit, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Women and Child Development visited Anganwadi Centre at Ganesh Nagar and discussed with the concerned AWW and the CDPO on the modalities of providing services to children from birth to three years.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Principals and Teachers on Child Mental Health  was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 1- 2 December,  2009 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants  on learning and behavioural problems in children; develop their skills in identification of children with these problems; and    enable them to develop a strategy for seeking timely intervention from specialized  agencies. Twenty participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitization Programme for Instructors of MLTCs/AWTCs on Prevention of Micronutrient Malnutrition was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-4 December, 2009 with the objectives to: sensitize the Instructors of MLTCs/AWTCs towards the issue of micronutrient deficiency; enhance their knowledge on types, functions, sources, causes, symptoms and management of micronutrient deficiency disorders; and develop their skill to effectively deal with the topics of Micronutrient Malnutrition in the training programmes of AWWs and Supervisors. Twenty-six participants attended the programme.

  • Regional Consultation of the Members of the Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 3-4 December, 2009 with the objectives to: review the status of implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006 by States; discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Chairpersons/Members of Juvenile Justice Boards; discuss the relevance of non-institutional services under the Juvenile Justice Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social integration of children including difficulties faced by them;  and develop State Specific Action Plan for proper and effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act. Twenty participants attended the meet.

  • Street Theater for Promoting Quality Parenting in ICDS  was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from  7- 9 December, 2009 with the objectives to: discuss the utility or theatre formats in ICDS; develop a script for promoting quality parenting in ICDS; and enable the participants to use developed script for street theatre in ICDS. Forty-five participants attended the training.

  • Regional Training Programme on Child Rights for Panchayati Raj Institutions(PRI) Functionaries and concerned Government Officials and NGOs was organised by Headquarters in collaboration with NCPCR from 7-9 December, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the delegates about the rights of the children and need of its protection; orient them on role of Panchayats in protecting the child rights; prepared trainers for trainings on child rights for Panchayats functionaries at district, sub-district and block level; promote child rights through PRIs; and evolve mechanisms for monitoring child rights by Panchayats. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

  • Training on Mobilization and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 7-10 December, 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants to the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources: and reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation. Forty participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Supportive Interventions for Children with Learning and Behaviour Problems for Principals and Teachers of Primary Schools was organised by Headquarters from 7-11 December, 2009 with the objectives to: enable the participants to understand the challenges of children in contemporary society and the role of schools in supporting their development; orient them to the various learning and behaviour difficulties in children; enhance their ability to identify early symptoms of learning and behaviour problems in children; and critically appraise them with the strategies to promote emotional wellbeing and achievement in children. Twenty-six participants attended the programme.

  • Two Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow and Headquarters from 7-11 December and 14-18 December,  2009 resectively. The main objectives of these courses were to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences with the participants; apprise them about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. In all thirty-seven participants attended these courses.

  • Orientation Training on Counseling and Case Intervention for the Functionaries of Childline was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 7-11 December 2009 with the objectives to: discuss and understand the needs and problems of children in difficult circumstances; sensitize them on the role of child line in dealing with children in difficult circumstances; make them aware of the concept and methods of case intervention; and improve skills in counseling techniques.  Nine participants attended the training.
  • Awareness Generation Camp for Volunteers of NGOs on Domestic Violence Act was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 14-15 December, 2009.   The main objectives of the programme were to: orient the Volunteers to the provisions of the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence’ Act, 2005; make them aware about the procedures for enlisting as Service Providers and discuss on the roles and responsibilities of the Protection Officers, Service Providers and other Organisations in combating Domestic Violence. Forty-two participants attended the camp.

  • Training of Trainers(ToT) on Juvenile Justice System and ICPS for Delhi Police and Master Trainers from Voluntary Organiations of Delhi was organised by Headquarters from 14-18 December, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants on UNCRC and Constitutional safeguards for children; enable them to develop and understanding of the Juvenile Justice System; facilitate them to identify and analyse linkages, coordination mechanisms and challenges in implanting the Juvenile Justice law; develop a Plan of Action for capacity building of key personnel concerned with children protection for child-friendly State of Delhi; and sensitise and orient them to the main features of ICPS and their role and responsibilities in ICPS. Nineteen participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Child Rights and Child Protection for Superintendents of Homes/ Probation/Welfare Officers/ VOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 14-18 December 2009. The main objectives of the training were to: orient the participants about the conceptual framework of Child Rights and Protection; enable them to understand service delivery mechanisms and legal provisions; and create an understanding of the good child protection practices including various legislations, policies and programmes etc. Nineteen participants attended the training.

  • Workshop on Parents on Education was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 16 December, 2009 with the objectives to: facilitate the participants adequate understanding about the needs and the scholastic problems of children; orient them about emerging trends in handling children with poor scholastic performance; and orient them on the need and importance of early intervention. Forty-eight participants attended the workshop.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act, 2006  was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 21-23 December, 2009. The main objectives of the programme were to: sensitize and orient the participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006; create clarity and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at regional level for strengthening implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and community as provided for in the Act; and create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration and to enable effective options assessment. Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for Police Personnel of CAW Cells is being organised by Headquarters from 21-24 December, 2009 with the objectives to: develop clear perspectives among participants about gender based violence; provide insights on the policies and legal safeguards to curb  the problem; provide information about the existing support services for women in distress; and facilitate them to build capacities to organise counselling and psycho-social interventions for women victims of violence. Sixteen police personnel of Delhi Police attending the training.

  • Workshop for School Teachers on Identification and Management of   Scholastic Problems of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 23 December, 2009 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the psychosocial needs of the children; orient them to the scholastic problems of children and its management; and sensitise them to the need and importance of early intervention.
