Important Activities for January - December, 2008

 

January 2008

 

  • Two Regional Level Consultations of the Members of CWCs were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore and Guwahati from 3-4 and 22-23 January, 2008 respectively with the objectives to: review the status of implementation of JJ Act, 2000 and its Amendment Act 2006; discuss roles, responsibilities, and difficulties of CWC members; and develop State specific action plan. Sixty-six participants attended the meet.

  • Three Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Headquarters, Regional Centre, Bangalore and Indore from 7 January – 6 February 2008, 7 January – 5 February, 2008 and 21 January – 19 February, 2008 respectively. The main objectives of these courses are to: orient the participants to various components of ICDS Scheme; enable them to understand their role, vis-à-vis job responsibilities of other functionaries in coordination, supervision and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their skills for guiding grass roots level functionaries in pre-school education, health and nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management. In all, eighty-five participants are attending these courses. Orientation Training for Counselling of Adolescent Girls on Family Life Education was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 7-11 January, 2008 with the objectives to: apprise the participants about the status of adolescent girls in India; sensitise them regarding the physical and psychological changes in adolescent girls; discuss the challenges the adolescent girls face and the need for counselling for managing the accompanying stress; orient them to the techniques of counselling; and make them aware about the concept and importance of family life education. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

  • Effective Implementation of Constitutional Provisions for Safety, Protection and Development of Women and Children: A Consultation Meet was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 8-10 January, 2008 with the objectives to: share different constitutional provisions pertaining to safety, protection and development of women and children; discuss importance and scope of constitutional provision for improving the status of women and children; and formulate strategy for effective implementation of such constitutional provisions. Fifteen participants attended the meet.

  • Training on Financial Management and Financial Report for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisation was organised by Headquarters from 8-11 January, 2008 with the objectives to: discuss the need and importance of financial planning and reporting; impart knowledge on need for developing effective internal controls and accounting systems; develop skills of functionaries in budgeting and maintaining books of accounts; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Twenty -eight participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course for State Programme Officers and Deputy Directors Dealing with ICDS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 9-11 January, 2008 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about the recent developments in ICDS; apprise them about various innovative practices and initiatives in ICDS; analyse problems hindering successful implementation of the programme; and facilitate them in preparation of an action plan to improve the quality of ICDS programme. Fifteen participants attended the programme.

  • Training Programme on Micro Enterprise and Small Business Development for Trainers of SHGs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 14-17 January, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: orient the participants on micro enterprise and small business development; apprise them on existing support available for micro enterprise development programmes; orient them in identifying local marketing; and discuss the role of trainers for building the capacity of SHG members in identifying appropriate income generating activities for sustainable livelihood. Twenty-eight participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training Programme on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Representatives of PRIs was organised by Headquarters from 17-19 January, 2008 at Gandhinagar with the objectives to: familiarize the participants on the state of trafficking in human beings with particular reference to women and children; make the participants aware of the extent of trafficking in women and children for commercial sexual exploitation; impart knowledge on legal framework and orient them on the strategies that are required to be adopted for preventing and combating trafficking in women and children. Fifty participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Women and Children for SAARC Countries is being organised by Headquarters from 21-31 January, 2008. The main objectives of the training are to :familiarise the participants on the state of trafficking human beings with particular reference to Asia and South Asia; make them aware of the extent of trafficking in women and children for commercial sexual exploitation; orient them on the strategies that are required to be adopted for preventing and combating trafficking of human beings; impart knowledge on legal structure and law enforcement measures adopted in India against trafficking and exploitation; familiarise them with relief and rehabilitation measures for victims rescued; and showcase best models/practices in India and the region. Eight delegates from SAARC countries are attending the training.

  • Skill Training on NHED for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs and ICDS Functionaries was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 21-25, January 2008 with the objectives to: discuss the need and importance of nutrition and health education for behaviour change; apprise the participants about recent developments in health & nutrition; and enhance their skills in planning and organizing nutrition and health education services. Twenty-seven participants attended the training.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 21-25 January, 2008. The main objectives of the course were to: apprise the participants on recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the area of early childhood care and development and enhance their skills in communication, counselling and management. Thirty-one participants attended the course.

  • Training Programme for the Representatives of Voluntary Organisations on Formation of Clusters and Federations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 21-25 January, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: orient the participants to the concept and need for cluster level association; orient them to the steps in formation of cluster and federation; highlight the importance of cluster and federation and to acquaint them about the rules and regulations in forming the federation. Thirty-seven participants attended the training.

  • Workshop on Parent Education was organised by Headquarters on 24 January, 2008 with the objectives to: create a forum for parents to discuss concerns about their children during the transition period of adolescence; and facilitate parents to explore attitudes and skills related to sexuality and communication with adolescents. Twenty-five participants attended the workshop.

  • Forthcoming Programmes of the month

    1. Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 28-30 January, 2008.

    2. Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Female Foeticide and Infanticide for Medical and Para-medical professionals by Headquarters from 30 January – 1 February, 2008 at New Delhi.

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is  being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 4 February 2008 to 4 March 2008 with the objectives to:  orient the participants to various components of ICDS Scheme; enable them to understand their role, vis-à-vis job responsibilities of other functionaries in coordination, supervision and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their skills for guiding grass roots level functionaries in pre-school education, health and nutrition and community participation; and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management.   • Training of Instructors of AWTCs/ MLTCs on Prevention of Undernutrition with Special Emphasis on Prevention of Micronutrient Malnutrition was organised at the headquarters from 4-8 February 2008. The objectives of the training were to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of prevalence, causes, consequences and prevention of micronutrient malnutrition; and equip them with skills to develop advocacy plans to create awareness among the community in general and AWWs/Supervisors in particular. Twenty two instructors attended the training.

  • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for the Police Personnel of CAW (Crime Against Women) Cells was organised by Headquarters from 5-8 February, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants about gender based violence in society and support services for women in distress; create awareness about identification and understanding the women’s problems; sharpen their skills in communication, negotiation and counselling. Thirty-seven participants attended the training. The programme was sponsored by Delhi Police.

  • Consultation Meet on Promotion of Child Mental Health in Schools for Principals/ Managers of Educational Institutions was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 6-7 February, 2008 with the objectives to:  create awareness about the behavioural and learning problems in children; enable them to understand the importance of counselling and guidance services for promoting positive mental health in school children;    and  help them to workout strategies for providing counselling and  guidance services for children in the school premises. Forty-eight participants attended the meet.

  • Workshop on Management of Classroom Behaviour Problems of Children for Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore 9 February, 2008 with the objectives to: create awareness about the needs of children; orient them to the various behaviour problems of children; and equip them with necessary skills for management of behaviour problems at home and school. Twenty nine teachers attended the workshop.

  • A National Workshop on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in ICDS was organised by the Headquarters in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Development on the 11 February 2008. The main objectives of the workshop were to: discuss the scope, nature and extent of Public-Private Partner in  ICDS; identify areas of ICDS for PPP; evolve suitable modalities/ mechanisms for translating it into a Memorandum of Understanding between the effective partners to encourage PPP in ICDS; and share the initiatives undertaken by the States/UTs on PPP in ICDS. Seventy two participants attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Training for Executive Heads of AWTCs of ICDS Training was organised  by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 11-15 February, 2008 with the objectives to: orient participants to the various components of ICDS scheme; acquaint them with the syllabi for Anganwadi Workers and Helpers; help them to understand the role and responsibilities of Heads of AWTCs in monitoring and supervision of training of AWWs/AWHs; and identify the problems in effective  implementation of training and evolve ways and means of handling them. Nineteen participants attended the training.

  • Two Regional Consultation Meets on Countering Child Abuse were organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow and Bangalore from 12-13 and 18-19 February, 2008 respectively. The main objectives of the meets were to: facilitate formulation of State and District Plans of Action for Child Protection. Hundred and thirty-four participants attended these meets. Another Regional Consultation Meet Countering Child Abuse is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore at Pune from 27-28 February, 2008.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 was organised at the headquarters from 12-14 February 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise and orient the participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children)  Amendment Act 2006; create an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at the regional level for strengthening implementation of Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and the community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration; and to facilitate speedy disposal  of cases. Eighteen participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 12-15 February, 2008 with the objectives to: develop professional skills among participants for making their programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; and apprise them of techniques of good governance. Thirty -nine participants attended the training.

  • State Level Consultation of Members of CWC (Child Welfare Committee) of Gujarat was organised by Regional Centre, Indore at Ahmedabad from 14-15 February 2008. The objectives of the consultation were to: review the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice Act 2006; discuss the roles and responsibilities of Chairperson of CWC and state representatives; and discuss relevance of non-institutional services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social integration of children. Forty- three participants attended the training.

  • Gender Sensitization Training for Law Enforcement Agencies of Madhya Pradesh was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 15-17 February 2008 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop a clear understanding of gender issues; create sensitivity towards women’s issues; and equip the participants with necessary skills for integrating women’s concerns in planning, designing, monitoring and implementation of programmes. Fifty-two police officials attended the training.

  • Training Programme on Formation and Management of Self Help Groups for Social Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati  from 18-22 February, 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the philosophy and concept of SHGs for empowerment of the marginalised section; to orient them to the various aspects of formation and management of SHGs; to create awareness about the policies and programmes for empowerment of women with special reference to economic empowerment of women; and to enable the functionaries to act as animators and catalysts in formation of SHGs. Thirty-four participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Training on Planning and Designing a Project Proposal was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati  from 19-22 February, 2008 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; to enhance the knowledge on the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; to develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability of a project; and to analyse the pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals. Thirty two participants attended the training.

  • Training on Integrating Gender Perspectives in Health and Nutrition Programmes was organised by Headquarters from 18-22 February, 2008. The main objectives of the course were to:  enable the participants to develop clear perspective about gender analysis and its importance in health and nutrition programmes; make them understand how the interrelationship between biological, psychological and social factors generate specific health and nutritional needs for women and men; develop skills for conducting gender diagnosis of existing health and nutrition programmes; and evolve an action plan to integrate gender perspectives in health and nutrition programmes. Twenty-eight participants attended the training.

  • Review Meeting-cum-Exposure Visit of Nodal Officers of Swayamsiddha was organised by Headquarters from 19-20 February, 2008. The main objective was to provide an exposure to income generation activities being undertaken by SHGs of Swayamsiddha. The participants were taken to Beechpuri Block, Mirzapur Village, Agra where they were shown activities such as dona pattal making, marble carving and sharbat making and packaging. Twelve Nodal Officers of Swayamsiddha attended the meet.

  • Orientation of State Programme Officers and Deputy Directors dealing with ICDS was organised at the headquarters from 20-22 February 2008. The objectives of the training were to: familiarise the participants with the recent developments in ICDS; analyse problems hindering successful implementation of the programme; and prepare action plans for improving the quality of ICDS programme. Eighteen participants attended the programme.

  • Parent Education Workshop was organised by Headquarters on 23rd February, 2008 with the objectives to: create a forum for parents to discuss concerns about their children during the transition period of adolescence and facilitate them to explore attitudes and skills related to sexuality and communication with adolescents. Thirty parents attended the workshop.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 25-29 February, 2008 with the objectives to: apprise them on the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in all the areas related to ICDS and enhance their skills in communication, counselling and management. Sixteen participants attended the course.

  • Training of Trainers of Police Training Institutes on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children  is being organised by Headquarters from 26-28 February, 2008 with the objectives to: enable the participants to understand the magnitude of the programme; sensitize them to legal framework and law enforcement machinery for violence against women;  discuss modalities for prevention of  sexual violence and trafficking of women and children; evolve  strategies for prevention, protection and prosecution; and create awareness on role of govt. agencies  vis-à-vis judiciary and NGOs.  Twenty-six participants are attending the training.

  • Two Workshops for Parents on Management of Classroom Behaviour Problems of Children were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 1 and 7 March, 2008 respectively. The main objectives of the workshops were to: facilitate adequate understanding about the needs and the psychological problems of children; provide knowledge and skills about quality child care; and orient them to the need and importance of early detection of psychological problems of children and its management at home. In all forty participants attended the workshops.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Police Officials of Gujarat was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 3-4 March, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: enable the participants to understand the magnitude of the problem; sensitize them to legal framework and law enforcement; discuss role of government agencies, judiciary, police and NGOs in combating the problem; and evolve strategies for protection and rehabilitation of victims of trafficking. Thirty-five police officials attended the programme.

  • Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Recent Developments in Health and Nutrition Care of Children and Women was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 3-7 March, 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: familiarise the participants about policies related to women and children; orient them on recent developments in the areas of nutrition and health of women and children; and develop appropriate skills for imparting effective nutrition and health education. Fifteen participants attended the training.

  • Refresher Course for Instructors of MLTCs/AWTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 4-8 March, 2008. The main objectives of the course were to: understand the various training needs and analyse the problems and constraints of Instructors of MLTCs; review various services of ICDS rendered at anganwadi centre; and apprise them with recent developments and emerging trends in ICDS. Fourteen participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Training for Instructors of MLTCs was organised by Headquarters from 10-18 March, 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: apprise the newly appointed Instructors about the ICDS programme, its services and issues related to early childhood care and development including child health, nutrition and education; familiarise them with the training syllabi of Supervisors; and build up their training and communication skills. Twenty-five participants attended the training.

  • Workshop on Child Rights under National Initiatives for Child Protection for the Representatives of Allied System was organised on 11 March, 2008 by Regional Centre Lucknow. The objectives of the workshop were to sensitize the participants on India's commitments to child rights and their role in ushering child-friendly systems in their realms of operations. Forty participants attended the training.

  • Two Regional Level Consultations on Child Protection for the Members of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) were organised by Regional Centre Bangalore and Headquarters on 11-12 March, and 13-14 March, 2008 respectively. The objectives of the Workshops were to: review the status of implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 by States: discuss the roles and responsibilities of Chairpersons/Members of JJBs; discuss the relevance of non-institutional services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social integration of children; and develop State specific action plan for proper and effective implementation of the Act. In all thirty-two participants attended the workshops.

  • Orientation Course on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children was organised for functionaries of voluntary organisations by the Headquarters from 17-19 March, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: enable the participants to understand the magnitude of the problem; sensitize them to legal framework and law enforcement, familiarise them with various government programmes to combat the problem and evolve strategies to rescue and rehabilitate the victims of trafficking. Nineteen participants attended the programme.

  • Two State Level Training and Sensitisation Programmes on JJ (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 were organised at Hyderabad and Aizwal from 25-27 March 2008. The objectives of these programmes were to: orient the participants to the JJ (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create clarity and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in implementation of the Act; create awareness about the role of voluntary agencies and community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration and facilitate speedy recovery of cases. In all seventy-one participants attended the programmes.

  • Training on Mobilizing and Management of Community Resources is being organised by Headquarters from 25-28 March, 2008. The objectives of the training are to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants to the techniques for mobilising and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills for generating resources; and build awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternatives for programme implementation. Sixteen participants are attending the training.

  • Teacher Education Workshop was organised by the Headquarters from 26-27 March, 2008 at New Delhi. The objectives of the workshop were to: sensitise the teachers about the issues and problems of children, facilitate them to develop an insight on strategies for helping children with learning and behavioural difficulties and address burnout of teachers and awaken them as enablers. Twenty-five teachers participated in the workshop.

    2. Sensitisation Programme for Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations on Women’s Empowerment from 31 March-4 April 2008 at NIPCCD Headquarters, New Delhi.

    3. State Level Training and Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 at Prayas, New Delhi from 27-29 March 2008 in collaboration with Prayas.

  • Sensitization Programme on Issues Concerning Women and Children for Elected Members of Zilla Panchayats in Karnataka was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from  2 - 4 April, 2008  with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on various issues affecting the development of women and children; orient them on various policy and programme initiatives of Government relating to women and children; and discuss the role of elected members in accelerating the development process with regard to women and children. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Review Meeting of  the Advisory Group on National Policy for Children 1974 was organised by Headquarters  on 3rd April, 2008 with the objectives to review the National Policy for Children 1974  in the light of fresh issues concerning children that have risen recently, which need to be addressed more effectively. Thirty-one members attended the meeting.

  • Training on Gender Planning and Mainstreaming was organised by Headquarters from 7-11 April 2008 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives about gender analysis and understand link between gender and development; to acquire necessary knowledge and skills of  gender      planning; to workout strategies for gender mainstreaming; to discuss various ways and means of women's empowerment and to provide a forum for sharing the experiences of participants working on gender issues. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training on Mental Health Services for School Teachers was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 7-11 April, 2008 with the objectives to: senstise the school teachers to the psycho-social needs of children; and develop in them skills and competencies required for early detection and management of problems in children. Thirty-seven participants attended the programme.

  • Skill Training on NHED for the Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs and ICDS Functionaries  was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 8-11 April, 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: familiarise the participants about policies related to women and children; orient them on recent developments in the areas of nutrition and health of women and children; and develop appropriate skills for imparting effective nutrition and health education.   • Workshop on Qualitative Parenting for Holistic Growth and Development of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on the 20th April, 2008. The main objectives of the workshop were to: orient the participants about the various facts and facets of parenting and its impact on growth and development of children; to acquaint them with the methods and techniques of quality parenting; and provide guidance on developing good parenting practices for the holistic growth and development of children. Fifty-one participants attended the workshop.

  • Training on Mobilization and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 21-24 April, 2008 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants to the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources: and reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness  to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternatives for programme implementation. Forty participants attended the training.

  • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for the Counsellors Providing Services to Women in Distress was organised by Headquarters from 22-25 April, 2008. The main objectives of the course were to sensitize the participants about women empowerment and gender issues, create awareness about identification of problems of women and diagnosing/understanding their problems;  familiarize about existing programmes  and support services for women in distress, develop communication negotiation and counselling skills; orient them to counselling methods, types, techniques and process involved therein, and promote networking among NGOs and institutions providing support services to women in distress. Twenty-one participants attended the training.

  • Orientation of State Programme Officers and Deputy Directors Dealing with ICDS was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 22-24 April, 2008 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by Government of India for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on strengthening quality of ICDS programme.  Nineteen participants attended the meeting.

  • Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 22-25 April, 2008 with the objectives to: develop professional skill among participants for making their programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; and apprise them of techniques of good governance.  Thirty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop on Parent Education was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 23rd April, 2008 with the objectives to: senstise parents on the need for educating the girl child; and discuss the issue of absenteeism among girls. Forty participants attended the workshop.

  • Workshop on Parent Education was organised by Regional Centre Guwahati on 24th April 2008 with the objectives to senstise the parents on problems related to school performance; and discuss strategies for coping with the problems. Twenty-one parents attended the workshop.

  • A Colloquium on Obesity in Children and Adolescents: Issues and Challenges was organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in collaboration with NIPCCD Headquarters on 24th April, 2008 with the objectives to understand the prevalence, trend and factors contributing to obesity and related problems in children and adolescents; and develop strategies for effective interventions to combat obesity in children and adolescents. Hundred and one participants attended the Colloquium.

  • Workshop on Parent Education Looking beyond the Challenges of Learning Disability was organised by Headquarters on 26th April, 2008 with the objectives to: provide a platform for parents to build their understanding about learning disability by interacting with professionals and other parents; and empower them with the strategies of managing the condition and promoting optimal development of the child.   • Workshop for the School teachers on Identification and Management of Children with Learning Difficulties was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 2nd May, 2008 with the objectives to:  provide theoretical framework for understanding the children’s learning difficulties; orient the participants to age-specific psycho–social needs and scholastic problems in children; and facilitate the participants in identification, assessment and management of children with learning difficulties. Thirty-one participants attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Course on Management of Creche Services  was organised by Headquarters from 5-9 May, 2008 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop better understanding of various aspects of child development, particularly in the context of children between 0-6 years; senstise them to developmentally appropriate early childhood care and development services; and enable them to develop viable strategies to make qualitative assessment of creche programme implemented by voluntary organisations. Twenty-one participants attended the course.

  • Skill Training for Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Infant and Young Child Feeding and Counselling (IYCF) was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 5-9 May, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on  promotion of optimal infant and young child feeding as per the guidelines of the global strategy for infant and young child feeding; and impart skills to the participants in providing individual counselling on breastfeeding and complementary feeding. Nineteen participants attended the training.

  • Two Orientation Training Courses on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation were organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati and Indore from 5-9 May, 2008 and 13-15 May, 2008 respectively with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organization, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations. In all fifty-five participants attended these trainings.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Community Mobilization and Participation was organised by Headquarters from 5-9 May, 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: develop understanding of the concepts and principles of community mobilisation and participation; develop skills of trainers in eliciting community participation and participatory communication techniques; and equip them with skills to impart training of supervisors and AWWs in the area of community participation. Twenty-one participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Communication and Counselling Skills for the Functionaries of Childline was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 6-9 May, 2008 with the objectives to: discuss and analyse the needs and problems of children in difficult circumstances and role of child-line functionaries in dealing with children in difficult circumstances upgrade the communication skills for effective handling of children; and equip them with skills in counselling techniques. Thirty-two participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Mobilisation and Management of Community Resources for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 12-16 May, 2008 with the objectives to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants to the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources: and reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternatives for programme implementation. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course for NGOs on Swadhar and Short-Stay Homes was organised by Headquarters from 12-16 May, 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants on preparing project proposals to get assistance under the schemes; analyse problems and constraints in implementing the schemes; and provide managerial skills for implementation, coordination, supervision and evaluation of the schemes. Twenty participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Course on Formation of SHGs for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 12-16 May, 2008 with the objectives to: to enable participants to understand the concept, importance, dynamics and objectives of SHG for women; and equip them with skills in formation, development and strengthening of SHGs. Twenty-five participants attended the course.

  • Training Programme on Community Micro Planning for Development of Women and Children of Tribals and Other Underprivileged Sections of Society for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters  from 12-16 May, 2008 with the objectives to: expose the participants to the concept of micro planning so as to evolve participatory development methodology to address the problems of women and children belonging to tribals and other underprivileged sections of society; help them to evolve a module for integrated micro planning involving the community; facilitate them in evolving a developmental action plan which comprises identifying and prioritizing problems, strategies and options for dealing with the problems; and developing a rudimentary work programme describing approaches and strategies. Twenty-three participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Voluntary Organisations on Prevention of Child Marriages was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 13-15 May, 2008 with the objectives to:  sensitise participants about legal and constitutional rights related to adolescent/women; provide information about legal machineries dealing with care, protection and justice for adolescent/women; and facilitate them to develop action plan for prevention of child marriages in India.  Eighteen participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Police Officials on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore at Chennai from 14-16 May, 2008 with the objectives to:  enable the participants to understand the magnitude of the problem; to sensitise them to the legal framework and law enforcement machineries; and discuss strategies for prevention, protection and prosecution. Thirty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Qualitative Parenting for Holistic Growth and Development of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 19-23 May, 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants about the various facts and facets of parenting; make them aware of the impact of parenting on growth and development of children; creating awareness about the various methods and techniques of qualitative parenting for holistic development of children and discuss strategies for establishment of family-community partnership. Fourteen participants attended the course.

  • Sensitisation Training for Representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions on Prevention of Malnutrition and Micronutrient Deficiencies was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 21-23 May, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants to the magnitude of problem of malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies; creating awareness on importance of macronutrients and micronutrients their functions and deficiency symptoms; and orient them on the intervention strategies for prevention of malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies. Twenty participants attended the training.

  • Training Programme on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Women and Children for SAARC Countries is being organised at Headquarters  from 21-31 May, 2008  with the objectives to: familiarise the participants on the state of trafficking in human beings with particular reference to Asia and South Asia; make them aware of the extent of trafficking in women and children for commercial sexual exploitation; orient them on the strategies that are required to be adopted for preventing and combating trafficking of human beings; familiarise them with relief and rehabilitation measures for victims rescued; and apprise them of health and social consequences of trafficking. Fifteen participants from Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Srilanka are attending the training. 

  • Training on Financial Management and Reporting for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati in collaboration with HOPE for India at Kolkata from 22-25 May 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: discuss the need and importance of financial planning and reporting; impart knowledge on the need for developing effective internal controls and accounting systems; develop skills of functionaries in budgeting and maintaining books of accounts; and discuss income tax rules and procedures. Fifty participants attended the training.

  • Refresher Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Headquarters from 26-30 May, 2008 with the objectives to: apprise them on the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in all the areas related to ICDS and enhance their skills in communication, counselling and management. Twenty-seven participants are attending the course.

  • Orientation Training on the Techniques of Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 26-31 May, 2008. The main objectives of the training are to: to develop understanding of concept, principles and techniques of PLA;  highlight the need and importance of PLA techniques in community participation especially for women and child welfare/development programmes;  impart theoretical and practical training in conducting PLA; and  sensitize the participants in evolving plan of action for the development of women and children with the help of PLA techniques.   • Two Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised from 2-6, June, 2008 and 23-27 June, 2008 by Regional Centres Lucknow and Indore respectively. The main objectives of the courses were to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences to the participants; apprise them about the recent developments in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. In all fifty-four participants attended the courses.

  • Orientation Programme for School Principals on Child Mental Health was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 3-4, June, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize school Principals on learning and behavioural problems of children, develop their skills in identification of children with these problems; and enable them to develop a strategy for seeking timely intervention from specialized agencies. Nineteen participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Female Foeticide and Infanticide for NGOs, Medical and Para-medical Personnel was organised by Headquarters from 4-6 June, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: senstise the participants on issues of gender violence with special reference to female foeticide and infanticide; sensitize them to the magnitude of the problem and its overall impact on status of women, discuss the existing policies and legislation to curb female foeticide and infanticide; and identify strategies for strengthening the existing mechanism to curb these practices. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Skill Training on Behaviour Change Communication in Nutrition and Health Education for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 9-13 June, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: senstise the participants about the nutrition and health status of women and children, orient them to good nutrition and the importance of macronutrients as well as micronutrients, discuss the health and nutrition behaviour of the community, identify the areas needed to bring about behaviour change, and build their capacity about behaviour change communication in identified areas of NHED. Twenty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Adolescent Health, Family Life Education and HIV/AIDS for Executives of Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 9-13 June, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: develop an understanding of the issues relating to adolescent health and family life education including HIV/AIDS, discuss the existing strategies on adolescent health and development, enable the participants to develop skills for effective communication; and facilitate them to develop holistic viable programmes/ projects aimed at addressing the issue of adolescent development. Twenty participants attended the course.          

  • Sensitisation Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 10-12 June, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize and orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of  Children) Amendment Act 2006,; create an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at the regional level for strengthening implementation of Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and the community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration; and to facilitate speedy disposal  of cases. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop to Document Best Practices in NHED in ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 10-11 June, 2008 with the objectives to: discuss and workout the criteria for determining best practices in NHED, review in depth all the NHED practices received from various states, identify and select best practices in NHED, and workout mechanism for future usage of best practices. Thirty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Two programmes of Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations were organised from 10-13 June 2008 and 16-19 June, 2008 by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Lucknow respectively. The objectives of the programme were to: develop professional skill among participants for making their programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; and apprise them of techniques of good governance.  In all thirty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Life Skills Education (LSE) of Tribal Adolescent Girls was organised for NGOs by Regional Centre, Indore from 10-14 June, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: sensitise the participants about situation of tribal adolescent girls, orient them to the need and importance of life skill education, equip them with the skills in imparting life skills education and develop an action plan to impart life skill education at grass roots level. Twenty-six participants attended the training.

  • Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Recent Developments in Nutrition and Health Care of Children and Women was organised by Headquarters from 16-20 June, 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: familiarise the participants about policies, programmes and schemes related to women and children; apprise them on recent developments in the areas of nutrition and health of women and children; share information about prevalent best practices in nutrition and health care in their respective states and develop appropriate skills for imparting effective nutrition and health education. Thirteen participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course for Officials and Non Officials Engaged in Welfare and Development of Tribal Community was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 16-20 June, 2008. The objectives of the course were to: sensitise the participants about constraints and problems faced by scheduled tribe women and children, provide information about the financial support and other government run programmes for welfare and development of scheduled tribe women and children, and acquaint them with the tribal culture, traditions and life style etc. Seventeen participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Legal Provisions and Safeguards for Protection of Women for Agencies Involved in Women’s Issues was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 16-20June, 2008 with the objectives to: create awareness among participants about legal and constitutional rights, make them aware about legal provisions and safeguards for protection of women, provide information about legal machineries dealing with care, protection and justice;  and facilitate participants to develop action plan for addressing women issues/rights for justice. Twenty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Skill Training on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) for Technical Institutions of Southern Region was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 16-21 June, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: train the participants for providing knowledge and support regarding breastfeeding and complementary feeding to mothers and families, orient them about counselling mothers and care givers for enhancing optimal IYCF practices as per the guidelines of Global Strategy for IYCF, and enabling participants to empower HIV +ve mothers on optimal IYCF. Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Course on Reproductive and Child Health, Family Life Education and HIV/AIDS is being organised by Headquarters from 23-27 June, 2008. The main objectives of the course are to: orient counsellors of short stay homes/Swadhar scheme to the fundamental concepts of essential and emergency obstetric care, newborn care, etc.; and build their capacity with necessary techniques and skills in nutrition and health education for dealing with issues related to family life education, reproductive and child health and HIV/AIDS. Nineteen participants are attending the course.

  • Training on Mobilization and Management of Community Resources for Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Headquarters from 23-27 June, 2008. The main objectives of programme are to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants on the techniques for mobilizing and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation; enable them to manage their financial matters and funds; and provide information on legal framework for voluntary organizations.   • Training on Integrating Gender Perspectives in Health and Nutrition Programmes is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 23-27 June, 2008. The objectives of the programme are to: enable the participants to develop clear perspective about gender analysis and its importance in health and nutrition programmes; make them understand how the interrelationship between biological, psychological and social factors generate specific health and nutritional needs for women and men; develop skills for conducting gender diagnosis of existing health and nutrition programmes; and evolve an action plan to integrate gender perspectives in health and nutrition programmes. Twenty-eight participants are attending the training.

  • Orientation Course for Voluntary Organisations on Procedures for Seeking Financial Assistance is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 24-26 June, 2008. The objectives of the programme are to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the process and procedures seeking financial assistance through government and other sources, provide information about financial rules and legal frameworks and develop skills in writing proposals/ applications for seeking financial assistance. Twenty-nine participants are attending the course.

  • Two Trainings on Financial Management & Financial Reporting for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations are being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore and Lucknow from 24-27 June, 2008.   • Four Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore, Guwahati, Indore and Lucknow from 7 July  – 5 August 2008 respectively with the objectives to:  orient the CDPOs / ACDPOs to various components of ICDS Scheme; enable them to understand their own role, as well as the roles and responsibilities of other functionaries of the scheme; equip them with adequate knowledge and skills for providing the job training to peripheral workers of the scheme; and facilitate them to develop skills necessary for administration and management of the ICDS scheme. In all eighty-four participants are attending these courses.

  • Orientation Course on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children was organised by Headquarters from 8-10 July, 2008 with the objectives to: create awareness about the magnitude of the problems of trafficking; discuss concept, trends and dimensions of trafficking in India; familiarise them with the rescue operations, post rescue care and rehabilitation process; communication and counselling strategies for survivors and critically analyse and evolve the role of Non-Government Organisations in prevention of trafficking. Twenty-four participants attended the course.

  • Workshop on Prevention of Child Labour Strategies through ICDS and SSA Programme was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 10th July, 2008. The main objectives the workshop  were to: disseminate the Prevention of Child Labour Strategy developed in APSBP to the key stakeholders of the four southern states of India; and discuss the issue of mainstreaming  prevention of child labour strategies through the ICDS Programme. Thirty-four participants attended the workshop.

  • Two Workshops on Monitoring and Supervision of ICDS Scheme were organised by the Headquarters on 11th July, 2008 and 18 July, 2008 respectively at Bangalore and New Delhi. The main objectives of the workshops were to: discuss the tasks required to be performed by the selected Institutions as well as the consultants; and discuss the financial support available for the proposed monitoring system. In all sixty-two participants attended these workshops.

  • Skill Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Community Mobilization and  Participation was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 14 – 18 July 2008 with the objectives to: develop understanding of participants to the concept and principles of community mobilization and participation; enhance their skills in eliciting community participation and participatory communication techniques; and equip them with the skills to impart effective training of Supervisors and AWWs in the area of community mobilization and participation. Twenty-two participants attended the training.

  • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for Police Personnel of CAW Cells was organised by Headquarters from 14-18 July, 2008 with the objectives to: develop clear perspectives among participants about gender based violence; provide insights on the policies and legal safeguards to curb the problem; provide information about the existing support services for women in distress; and facilitate them to build capacities to organise counselling and psycho-social interventions for women victims of violence. Twenty-seven personnel of Delhi Police attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Work Places for Senior Functionaries of Developmental Sector was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 14-16 July, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants on locus and manifestation of gender violence; discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women at work places; analyze the problems and work out strategies for tackling the problem of sexual harassment of women at work place; and discuss existing mechanisms / support services and provide suggestions for strengthening them.   Twenty-seven participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Workshop on Combating Gender Based Violence was organised by Headquarters from 21-25 July, 2008 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives about domestic and gender based violence its causes, manifestations and consequences; discuss about sexual violence and trafficking of women and girls; workout strategies for combating gender based violence; and provide a forum for sharing the experiences of participants working on gender based violence. Forty-nine participants attended the workshop.

  • Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Training Technology was organised by Headquarters from 21-25 July, 2008 with the objectives to: enable trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs to strengthen their direct training skills; make trainers proficient in various participatory/interactive training techniques; and guide them on how to design and implement an effective training programme; and build the requisite skills of a ‘successful trainer”. Thirty-four participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training on Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness for Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs (IMNCI) was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 21-25 July, 2008. The main objectives of the training were to:  build the capacity of trainers of ICDS functionaries in management of childhood illnesses in an integrated manner; familiarize them about techniques of assessment, classification and treatment of common childhood diseases; and strengthen communication and counselling skills of trainers. Sixteen participants attended the training.

Twenty-four participants attended the course.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Child Abuse for the Representatives of Childline was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 6-8 August, 2008 with the objectives to:  sensitize participants on child abuse; its nature, extent and forms, to provide information on the legal provisions and support systems available; and to help them to develop strategies for effective handling of abused children. Thirty-six participants attended the programme.

  • Two Workshops on Parent Education were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore and Lucknow on 4 August, 2008 and 7 August, 2008 respectively. The main objectives of the workshops were to: orient the participants to the psycho-social needs of children; sensitise them to scholastic problems in children and its management; and orient them on the need and importance of early interventions.  In all, seventy parents attended these workshops.

  • Multi Stakeholder Public Private Partnership Workshop to Combat Trafficking was organised by Headquarters in collaboration with Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI and Department of Women and Child Development, Govt. of Karnataka on 8 August 2008. The main objectives of the workshop were to: discuss and deliberate on Public Private Partnership for providing economic empowerment of survivors of trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation; create linkages and strengthen alliances between the corporate and NGO sector; and lay foundation for a business coalition on anti-human trafficking initiatives. One hundred and two participants attended the workshop

  • Two Job Training Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs are being organised by Headquarters and  Regional Centre, Indore, from 6 August – 5 September 2008 and 25 August – 23 September, 2008 respectively with the objectives to:  orient the CDPOs / ACDPOs to various components of ICDS Scheme; enable them to understand their own role, as well as the roles and responsibilities of other functionaries of the scheme; equip them with adequate knowledge and skills for providing the job training to peripheral workers of the scheme; and facilitate them to develop skills necessary for administration and management of the ICDS scheme. In all, seventy participants are attending these courses.

  • Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisation was organised by Regional Centre, Indore 11-14 August 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: develop professional skills among participants for making their programme sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate good governance; apprise them of techniques of good governance; and enhance their capabilities to tackle the problems of lack of good governance. Eighteen participants attended the training.

  • Three Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore, Lucknow and Indore from 4-8 August, 2008 and 18-22 August, 2008 with the objectives to: assess training needs of CDPOs/ACDPOs; review the implementation of ICDS scheme with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences to the participants; apprise them about the recent developments in ICDS programme; and sharpen their communication, counselling and managerial skills. In all, eighty-six participants attended these courses.

  • Counselling Intervention for Children Affected by Trauma, Abuse and Neglect is being organised by Headquarters from 18-29 August, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize them to the need for counselling children at-risk;  facilitate them to develop positive attitude for counselling children; and  orient them to various approaches to counselling children. Thirty-two participants are attending the training.

  • Training on Financial Management and Reporting for Voluntary Organizations was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 19-22 August, 2008 with the objectives to: make the participants understand the importance of financial planning and reporting; develop understanding about the need for developing effective internal controls and accounting systems;  develop skills of functionaries in budgeting and maintaining books of accounts; and acquaint them with income tax rules and procedures. Thirty-two participants attended the training.

  • Training on Planning and Designing a Project was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 19 – 22 August 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: enable the participants to develop a perspective on the need and importance of a project; enhance the knowledge base and skills of the participants to the techniques of planning, designing and presenting effective project proposals; develop skills in cost estimation and working out mechanisms for monitoring and sustainability for a project; and analyze pitfalls in planning and designing project proposals. Thirty-four participants attended the training.

  • Workshop for School Teachers on Identification and Management of Slow   Learners was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 20 August, 2008 with the objectives to: orient them on age specific psycho-social needs of children; familiarize them to the scholastic problems in children; and provide an insight on Identification, assessment and management of children with learning difficulties. Forty-two teachers attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Course on  Awareness Building for Senior Representatives of Voluntary Organisations on Right to Information (RTI) Act  was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 20-21 August, 2008 with the objectives to: enable participants to understand various aspects of the RTI Act; acquaint them with the procedure and process of seeking information from public offices; and enable them to disseminate information on RTI to the larger community. Twenty-five participants attended the course.

  • Regional Workshop on Gender Budgeting for North Eastern States was organised by Headquarters at Guwahati from 20-22 August, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on the concepts and the need for gender-based approach for budgeting; apprise them of its positive contributions to the economic and social development of the country; orient them to the tools of gender budgeting; and enable the participants to dovetail gender concepts in projects and programmes undertaken by them and disseminate information widely. Twenty-eight participants attended the workshop.

  • Workshop on Parent Education ‘Parental Support Needed by Children during Early and Late Childhood’ was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 23 August, 2008 with the objectives to: develop an understanding about the needs of children during early and late childhood; and orient the parents about appropriate parenting skills. Eight hundred parents attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Programme on Food and Nutrition Security of Women and Children during Disasters is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 25-29 August, 2008 with the objectives to:  understand the vulnerability of women and children during disasters and emergencies; understand the nutritional requirement of women and children viz in disasters and emergencies; discuss the need and importance nutritional preparedness; and orient them about the strategies of achieving nutritional fulfillment during disasters/emergencies. Forty-nine participants are attending the workshop.

  • Orientation Training on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation is being organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from 25-29 August, 2008 with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants about how to establish a voluntary organization, process of Institution building, administration and management; help them learn planning and designing project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilization from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations.   Thirty-four participants are attending the training.

  • Orientation Training on Formation and Mobilization of SHGs for Government and NGOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 25-29 August, 2008. The main objectives of the training are to: create awareness about the plans, policies and programmes of Government for empowerment of women, with special reference to economic empowerment; develop their skills in formation and management of SHGs; orient them about the finance and accounts management; and mobilize the functionaries as animators and catalysts in formation of SHGs. Thirty-nine participants are attending the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for Voluntary Organisations on Prevention of Child Marriages in India is being organised by Headquarters at Lucknow from 26-28 August, 2008 with the objectives to:  create awareness on consequences of child marriage; discuss Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 and strategies for its implementation; and share best practices on prevention of child marriage.Thirteen participants are attending the training.

  • Gender Sensitisation Training for Law Enforcement Agencies of Chhatisgarh is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 26-28 August, 2008. The main objectives of the training are to: enable the participants to develop a clear perspective on gender issues; enrich and strengthen their sensitivity towards women’s development and empowerment; equip them with appropriate approaches and skills necessary for integrating women’s concern in planning/designing/monitoring/implementation of programmes especially the gender-sensitisation training of all ranks of police personnel; and orient them to alternate approaches regarding victims and perpetrators. Thirty participants are attending the training.

  • Two Regional Consultation Meets of the Members of the Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) are being organised by Headquarters and Regional Centre, Guwahati from 27-28 August, 2008 and  28-29 August, 2008 respectively with the objectives to: review of the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice Amendment Act 2006 by States/UTs; discuss the roles and  responsibilities of the members of CWC; highlight the importance of non-Institutional services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social reintegration of children; identify the obstacles/difficulties in carrying out their (CWC) roles and responsibilities; and develop the State Specific Action Plan for implementation. In all, fifty participants are expected to attend these programmes.

  • Orientation Training of  Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Counselling of Adolescent Girls on Life Skills Education was organised by Headquarters from 1-5 September, 2008 with the objectives to: apprise the participants about the concept and significance of adolescence and life skills education; orient them about various methods in imparting life skills education; strengthen their communication and counselling skills; and enable them to develop a strategic framework for life skills education of adolescent girls. Eighteen participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training Programme on Establishing and Managing a Voluntary Organisation was organised by Headquarters from 8-12 September, 2008 with the objectives to: share the concept and relevance of voluntary action and social development in India; orient the participants on how to establish a voluntary organisation; familiarise them with the process of institution building, administration and management; help them learn to plan and design project proposals; orient them about ways and means of resource mobilisation from various sources and effective financial management; and discuss issues related to good governance, accountability and transparency in voluntary organisations.  Twenty-one participants attended the course.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Violence Against Women for the Functionaries of Development Programmes was organised by Headquarters from 9-12 September, 2008 with the objectives to:  sensitize the participants on the concept of violence; types of violence and gender based violence; provide them an overview of instruments to eliminate discrimination against women; discuss existing legislations to prevent/protect women against violence; and apprise them of existing support services.  Twenty-eight participants attended the programme.

  • Parental Workshop on ‘Parental Support for Academic Achievement of School Children’ was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on                   13 September, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise the parents about school performance problems in children; orient them to the psycho-social needs of children; and acquaint them with appropriate parenting skills. Seventy-five parents attended the workshop.

  • The fourth one year Advanced Diploma in Child Guidance and Counselling commenced on 15 September 2008 with the objectives to: explore and evolve attitudes, values and beliefs that facilitates work with children as mental health professionals;  acquire knowledge and understanding of theoretical constructs and socio-cultural perspectives in the context of counselling; develop skills to plan, provide and monitor-counselling interventions for children and child- related systems; and  develop skills of mobilizing resources and networking and collaborating with stakeholders.   Twenty-one students have been registered for the course

  • Training of Grant Receiving NGOs on the Scheme of UJJAWALA was organised by Headquarters from 15-19 September, 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants about UJJAWALA; equip the field practitioners with knowledge and skills to deal with trafficked women; provide them a platform to evolve an advocacy tool to prevent trafficking; orient them to rescue operations and provide guidelines for the same; inform them about protective homes and how to run them; enhance their skills in preparation of project proposal; and discuss the monitoring and networking system at the State and national level under the scheme. Twenty-eight participants attended the training.

  • Skill Training  for Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs  on Prevention of Trafficking & HIV/AIDS  and Counselling was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow from  15-19, September, 2008 with the  objectives to:  create awareness among the participants about the magnitude of the problem of HIV/AIDS and trafficking;  discuss the role and responsibilities of ICDS functionaries in prevention of trafficking among women and children; and discuss the role and responsibilities of ICDS functionaries in prevention of HIV/AIDS. Sixteen participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Prevention of Child Abuse for District School Inspectors and Education Officers was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 15-19 September, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize participants on child abuse; its nature, extent and forms, to provide information on the legal provisions and support systems available; and to help them to develop strategies for effective handling of abused children. Thirty-seven participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitization Programme on Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006 was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 16 – 18 September 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize and orient participants to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different personnel involved in the implementation of the Act; facilitate sharing of best practices at the regional level for strengthening implementation of Juvenile Justice Act; create awareness on the role of voluntary agencies and the community as provided for in the Act; create an understanding of the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration; and to facilitate speedy disposal  of cases. Thirty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Training of Instructors of AWTCs/MLTCs on Prevention of Undernutrition with Special Emphasis on Prevention of Micronutrient Malnutrition was organised by Headquarters from 22-26 September, 2008. The main objectives of the training were to: develop participants’ knowledge and understanding regarding prevalence, causes, consequences, and prevention of micronutrient malnutrition; enhance their ability in assessing nutritional themes to be addressed at community, household and individual levels to as to prevent micronutrient malnutrition; and develop skills for developing advocacy plan so as to create awareness among the community, in general and AWWs/Supervisors, in particular.  Twenty-one participants attended the training.

The main objectives of the course were to: enhance the knowledge and understanding of the participants on the techniques for mobilising and managing community resources; reduce their dependency on donor agencies by developing necessary skills and awareness to adopt the techniques as a sustainable alternative for programme implementation; enable them to manage their financial matters and funds; and provide information on legal framework for voluntary organizations. Twenty participants are attending the course.

  • Orientation Training on Mental Health Services for Counsellors and Principals was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 22-26 September, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants on learning and behavioural problems of children, develop their skills in identification of children with these problems; and enable them to develop a strategy for seeking timely intervention from specialized agencies. Twenty-one participants attended the course.

  • Orientation Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Work Places was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 23–25 September 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants on locus and manifestation of gender violence;  discuss policies and legislative measures to curb atrocities against women at work places; analyze the problems and work out strategies for tackling the problem sexual harassment of women at work place; and discuss existing mechanisms / support services and provide suggestions for strengthening them. Sixty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Counselling Skills and Support Services for Police Personnel of CAW Cells was organised by Headquarters from 23-26 September, 2008 with the objectives to: develop clear perspectives among participants about gender based violence; provide insights on the policies and legal safeguards to curb the problem; provide information about the existing support services for women in distress; and facilitate them to build capacities to organise counselling and psycho-social interventions for women victims of violence. Thirty personnel of Delhi Police are attending the training.

  • Training on Financial Management and Financial Reporting for Voluntary Organisations is being organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 24-27 September, 2008. The main objectives of training are to: discuss the agency’s obligations with regard to transparency; impart knowledge on need for developing effective internal controls and accounting systems; develop their skills in budgeting and maintaining books of accounts; and discuss Income Tax rules and procedures.   • Training on Micro-Enterprise Development for Women was organised by Headquarters from 13-17 October, 2008 with the objectives to: acquaint the participants about how to promote micro-enterprise for women; make them aware about developing entrepreneurship among women and management of micro-enterprises; impart knowledge and skill in selection of viable economic activities, credit, marketing and other support services for micro-enterprises; develop capabilities on preparation of business plan for starting micro-enterprise; and share the experience of participants on the management of micro-enterprise.   Eighteen participants attended the training.

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 13 October – 12 November 2008 with the objectives to:  orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grass roots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation;  and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. Twenty-nine participants are attending the course.

  • Skill Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on PLA Techniques was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 20-24 October, 2008 with the objectives to: develop understanding of concept, principles and techniques of PLA;  highlight the need and importance of PLA techniques in community participation especially for women and child welfare/development programmes;  impart theoretical and practical training in conducting PLA; and  sensitize the participants in evolving plan of action for the development of women and children with the help of PLA techniques. Twenty participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Training on Economic Empowerment of Women for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 20-24 October, 2008 with the objectives to:  develop skills in formulation and management of livelihood programmes for economic empowerment; acquaint them with techniques in monitoring, evaluation and supervision of livelihood programmes for economic empowerment. Twenty-seven participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations on Women Empowerment was organised by Headquarters from 20-24 October, 2008 with the objectives to: familiarize the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitize the participants on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; discuss the role of voluntary organizations in empowerment of women; and provide insight on project formulation with gender sensitivity. Twenty-four participants attended the training.

  • Orientation Course for NIPCCD Faculty on Statistical Methods and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was organised by Headquarters in collaboration with NIMS, New Delhi from 20-24 October, 2008 with the objectives to:  orient the participants about the use of “Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)” for analysis of both primary and secondary data.  Twelve faculty members from Headquarters and Regional Centres attended the course.

  • Working Group Meeting for Training of ICDS and Health Functionaries on New WHO Child Growth Standards was organised by Headquarters on 22 October, 2008 with the objectives to:  finalise the strategies for training of ICDS and health functionaries on New WHO Child Growth Standards. Thirty participants attended the meeting.             

  • Orientation Training for State / District Programme Officers and Deputy Directors Dealing with ICDS was organised by Headquarters from 22-24 October, 2008 with the objectives to: familiarise the participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by Government of India for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on strengthening quality of ICDS programme. Twenty-eight participants attended the training.

  • Workshop on Parent Education on “Addressing Challenges of Growing-up” was organised by Headquarters on 24th October, 2008 with the objectives to: create a forum for parents to discuss concerns about their children during the transition period of adolescence; and discuss behavioural and conduct problems of adolescents and strategies of parenting. Thirty-one parents attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Programme on Child Rights and Child Protection for SAARC Countries was organised by Headquarters from 3-13 November, 2008 with the objectives to:          enable the participants to develop a conceptual perspective of Child Rights including Rights-based Approach (RBA); promote discourse on good child protection practices-policies, programmes legislations etc. and help them to develop framework for Regional and Country Plans of Action for Child Protection. Thirteen participants from Pakistan, Srilanka, India, Bangladesh, Nepal & Maldives attended the programme.

  • A Consultation on Identification of Training and Research Needs was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 3-4 November, 2008 with the objectives to: review the situation of women and children in States; identify priority areas for intervention in welfare and development of women and children in Western States, as also, assess the State-specific training/research needs. Forty-four participants attended the meet.

  • Course on Adolescent Health and HIV/AIDS was organised by Headquarters from 3-7 November, 2008 with the objectives to:  enable the participants to develop an understanding of the issues relating to adolescent health and HIV/AIDS; discuss the existing strategies for promotion of adolescent health and development; develop skills in communicating effectively with adolescents; and build the capacity of personnel of voluntary organizations with the necessary techniques and skills in nutrition and health education for dealing with issues related to adolescent health and nutrition. Twenty participants attended the course.

The main objectives of the training were to: familiarize participants about recent developments in ICDS programme and training of ICDS functionaries; apprise them about various innovations and new initiatives in ICDS programme; discuss about the implementation of guidelines and instructions issued by GOI for implementation of ICDS; and prepare an action plan on improving the quality of ICDS Programme. Twenty participants attended the programme.

  • Two Sensitisation Programmes for Police Officials on Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children)  Amendment Act 2006 was organised by Headquarters from 17-19 November, 2008 at Hyderabad and 25-27 November, 2008 at Nasik with the objectives to: sensitise and orient police officers to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Act 2006; create clarity and understanding of their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the Act; sensitise the police officers to deal with children in conflict with law sensitively; and facilitate in the speedy disposal of cases. In all seventy-four participants attended these programmes.

  • Job Training Course for CDPOs/ACDPOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 17 November  - 17 December, 2008 with the objectives to orient the trainee CDPOs/ ACDPOs about ICDS programme – its philosophy, objectives, package of services and beneficiaries; familiarize them with their role and responsibilities vis-a-vis job responsibilities of other block functionaries in coordination, supervision, and management of ICDS project; discuss with them the recent developments and thrusts in ICDS programme; share with them the need, importance and strategies for convergence of services at various levels of implementation; develop their requisite skills required for guiding grassroots level functionaries in preschool education, health & nutrition and community participation;  and equip them with knowledge for effective leadership, supportive supervision and management of ICDS Projects. Sixteen participants are attending the course.

  • Training Programme on Formation of Cluster and Federation for Voluntary Organisations for Promoting SHGs for Women Empowerment was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 17-20 November, 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the concepts of need for cluster level association and important  steps in formation of cluster and federation; and  functions of cluster and federation; orient them about different models of cluster and  federations; and registration of cluster and federation and rules and regulations in formation of registrations. Twenty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Mainstreaming Gender Issues in Development Programmes was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 17-21 November, 2008 with the objectives to: enable the participants to develop clear perspectives on gender analysis and understand link between gender and development; enable them to acquire necessary knowledge and skills of gender planning; and workout strategies for gender mainstreaming. Thirty-seven participants attended the programme.

  • Workshop on Introduction of New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS was organised by Headquarters on 21 November, 2008 at Lucknow with the objectives to:  share an update with the States on 11th plan provisions on ICDS universalisation with quality, for enhancing young child growth and development; sensitise State teams to the new WHO Child Growth Standards and the programme implications of introducing New WHO Child Growth Standards and the Mother Child Protection Card Package in ICDS; facilitate State teams in evolving operational modalities for the same in their State context; link State teams to national and regional training resource teams; and  develop a national roll out plan with indicative phasing of States/high burden districts. Eighty-five participants attended the workshop.

  • Parent Education Workshop on Learning and Behavioural Problems of Children was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 22nd November, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise the parents about common learning and behavioural problems of children; and acquaint them with the techniques of management of these children. Eighteen participants attended the workshop.

  • Parent Education Workshop on Parental Support for Children’s Better Performance in Schools was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 22nd November, 2008 with the objectives to: develop an understanding amongst the parents about needs of children; acquaint them about appropriate parenting skills so as to enable them to boost their children’s performance. Eighty participants attended the workshop.

  • Review Meeting of MLTCs/AWTCs was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 24 November, 2008 with the objectives to: review the status of functioning of MLTCs/AWTCs in Karnataka; review the progress in training; provide a forum for sharing training experiences; and discuss the challenges and constraints of organizing training activities. Fifty-seven participants attended the review meeting

  • Orientation Course on Prevention of Trafficking of Women and Children for Government Officials  and NGOs is being organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 25-28 November, 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the nature and magnitude of problem of trafficking of women and children; familiarize them to the process and consequences of trafficking;  acquaint them with the existing legal provisions and support services for rescue and rehabilitation of trafficked women and children; and  sensitise the  government officials and the NGO representatives about the roles to be played by them in prevention of trafficking and rescue & rehabilitation of the victims. Forty-three participants are attending the course.

  • Gender Sensitization Workshop for Police Officers of Karnataka is being organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 25 – 27 November, 2008 with the objectives to: provide an insight on violence against women and children in Karnataka; sensitize the participants on role and responsibilities of police force in providing gender justice; and identify strategies and approaches to counter gender based violence. Thirty-three police officers are attending the sensitisation workshop.

  • Orientation Programme on Prevention and Early Detection of Childhood Disabilities is being organised by Headquarters from 26-28 November, 2008. The main objectives of the programme are to: sensitise the participants to the importance of prevention and early detection of childhood disabilities; orient them to the strategies of prevention and early detection of disabilities among children in the community; enable them to learn skills in screening of children with developmental delays and disabilities; and to apprise them with various programmes for children with developmental delays and disabilities. Twenty-five participants are attending the orientation programme.

  • Training of Trainers of AWTCs/MLTCs on Prevention of Child Marriage and Female Foeticide was organised by Headquarters from 1-3 December, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitize the participants about gender violence with special focus on child marriage and female foeticide; create awareness about the magnitude of the problem and its overall impact on the status of girl child and women; and  discuss related laws and strategies for bringing about attitudinal changes to curb female foeticide and child marriage. Twenty-two participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Programme for Government Officials and NGOs on “Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005” was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 1-3 December, 2008 with the objectives to: review trends in domestic violence over the past decade and the measures adopted to combat it; create awareness about the provisions of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005; and  discuss the roles of the protection officer, service providers and other organisations in the implementation of the Act. Forty participants attended the programme.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Female Foeticide and Enforcement of PNDT Act was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 2-4 December, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: sensitise the participants on the gravity of the problem of foeticide; enable them to understand the contributing factors; and create awareness about PNDT Act and its enforcement  Twenty-four participants attended the programme.

  • Upgrading Counselling Skills of Counsellors Working with Children in Distress was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 1-5 December, 2008. The main objectives of the course were to: sensitise the participants to the needs and rights of children; explore and evolve attitude, values and beliefs that facilitate working with children; and enhance their skills of counselling. Thirty-five participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Good Governance in Voluntary Organisations was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 2-5 December, 2008 with the objectives  to: develop professional skill among participants for making their programmes sustainable at the field level; make them understand the essential features of appropriate/good governance; and apprise them of techniques of good governance. Thirty-nine participants attended the programme.

  • Two Workshops on Introduction of New WHO Child Growth Standards in ICDS were organised by Headquarters on 8 December, 2008 and 12 December, 2008 at Guwahati and New Delhi respectively. The objectives of these workshops were  to:  share an update with the States on 11th plan provisions on ICDS universalisation with quality, for enhancing young child growth and development; sensitise State teams to the new WHO Child Growth Standards and the programme implications of introducing New WHO Child Growth Standards and the Mother Child Protection Card Package in ICDS; facilitate State teams in evolving operational modalities; link State teams to national and regional training resource teams; and  develop a national roll out plan with indicative phasing of States/high burden districts. In all, hundred forty-three participants attended these workshops.

  • Sensitisation Programme on Violence Against Women was organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 10-12 December, 2008 with the objectives to review the situation of women in India with especial emphasis on crime against women; create awareness about the constitutional provisions for women and legal safeguards for protection of women and on the institutional framework for the realization of women's rights; and  to enable participants to understand the concept of rehabilitation and social reintegration of women in difficult circumstances.  Twenty-eight participants attended the programme.

  • Training on Achieving Institutional Linkages for Sustainable Nutritional Security and Role of Women was organised by Headquarters from 10-12 December, 2008 with the objectives to:  make the participants aware about the policies, programmes and institutional linkages with line departments to address issues concerning food and nutritional security; and develop innovative strategies on the role of women in achieving nutrition security. Twenty participants attended the training.

  • Gender Sensitisation Workshop for Police Officers of Karnataka was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 10-12 December, 2008 with the objectives to: create awareness about gender inequality and violence against women prevalent in the society and the need to deal with it sensitively; and impart knowledge on the critical issues and legislations concerning women and children. Thirty-one police officers attended the workshop.

  • Skill Training to ICDS Functionaries on Infant and Young Child Feeding and Counselling (IYCF) was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore from 11-12 December, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants on promotion of optimal infant and young child feeding as per the guidelines of the global strategy for infant and young child feeding; and impart skills to the participants in providing individual counselling on breastfeeding and complementary feeding. Thirty-one participants attended the training 

  • Parental Workshop on “Appropriate Parenting Skills to Deal with the Common Problems during Childhood” was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati on 12 December, 2008 with the objectives to: develop an understanding about the needs of children during childhood; acquaint them about various emotional and behavioural problems during childhood; and enable the parents about appropriate parenting skills during childhood. Forty-six participants attended the workshop.

  • Training on Integrating Gender Perspectives in Health and Nutrition Programmes  was organised by Headquarters  from 15-19 December, 2008 with the objectives to:  enable the participants to develop a clear perspective about gender analysis and its importance in health and nutrition programmes; make them understand the interrelationship between biological, psychological and social factors generating specific health and nutritional needs for women and men;  develop the skills for conducting gender diagnosis of existing health and nutrition programmes to provide skills for planning health and nutrition programmes/projects with gendered approach; and evolve an action plan to integrate gender perspectives in the ongoing health and nutrition programmes. Fifteen participants attended the training.

  • Sensitisation Programme for the Functionaries of Voluntary Organisations and Government Officials on Women’s Empowerment was organised by Headquarters from 15-19 December, 2008 with the objectives to: familiarize the participants with the policies and programmes of women empowerment; sensitize the participants on gender issues and how to incorporate it in the agenda of voluntary agencies; discuss the role of voluntary organizations in empowerment of women; and provide insight on project formulation with gender sensitivity. Thirty-three participants attended the training.

  • Two Refresher Courses for CDPOs/ACDPOs were organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore and Indore  from 15-19 December, 2008 with the objectives to: review the implementation of ICDS programme in the State with regard to its various aspects; provide a forum for sharing of experiences in implementing ICDS programme; apprise CDPOs/ ACDPOs about the recent developments and trends in ICDS programme; update their knowledge in the areas of early childhood care and development including nutrition and health care; and  sharpen their communication, counseling and managerial  skills. In all forty participants attended these courses.

  • Parent Education Workshop on Positive Parenting was organised by Regional Centre, Lucknow on 16 December, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise parents about common behavioural problems of children; sensitise them about learning problems of children; and help them to seek timely help for problems of their children. Forty parents attended the workshop.

  • Workshop for School Teachers on Identification and Management of Slow   Learners was organised by Regional Centre, Bangalore on 17 December, 2008 with the objectives to: orient them on age specific psycho-social needs of children; familiarize them to the scholastic problems in children; and provide an insight on Identification, assessment and management of children with learning difficulties. Nineteen teachers attended the workshop.

  • Orientation Training for Representatives of Autonomous District Councils on Women and Child Development  was organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati from 18-19 December, 2008 with the objectives to: sensitise the participants to the situation of women and children in the community; create awareness among them about various development programmes for women and children; and acquaint them with the roles of elected representatives of Autonomous Councils in effective implementation of the programmes. Twelve participants attended the training.

  • Three Regional Consultations for the Members of the Juvenile Justice Boards(JJBs) on Juvenile Justice Act and Child Protection were organised by Regional Centre, Guwahati, Bangalore and Headquarters from 11-12 December, 2008, 18-19 December, 2008 and 22-23 December, 2008 respectively with the objectives to:  review of the status of implementation of Juvenile Justice Amendment Act 2006 by States/UT’s;  discuss the roles and  responsibilities of the members of JJBs; highlight the importance of non-institutional services under the Act to facilitate effective rehabilitation and social reintegration of children; identify the obstacles/difficulties in carrying out their roles and responsibilities; and  develop State specific action plan for implementation. In all, seventy-five participants attended these programmes.

  • Sensitisation Programmes on Prevention of Female Foeticide and Infanticide for NGOs were organised by Regional Centre, Indore from 22-24 December, 2008. The main objectives of the programme were to: sensitise the participants on issues of gender violence with special reference to female foeticide and infanticide; sensitize them to the magnitude of the problem and its overall impact on status of women, discuss the existing policies and legislation to curb female foeticide and infanticide; and identify strategies for strengthening the existing mechanism to curb these practices. Twenty-six participants attended the programme.

  • Orientation Training on Pre-school Education for Voluntary Organisations was organised by Headquarters from 22-26 December, 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the concept and significance of pre-school education; enable them to develop better understanding of various issues related to pre-school education; and provide them the exposure of pre-school programme. Seventeen participants are attending the training.

  • A Parent Education Workshop  on “Scholastic Problems in Children” was organised  by Headquarters on 24 December. 2008 with the objectives to: orient the participants to the causal links of scholastic problems in children and the need for assessment; sensitise them to the broad strategies of intervention; and discuss their role in helping their child with scholastic problems.
